Today I'm reacting to VOICEPLAY (with Geoff Castelucci) with the Wicked Medley featuring Rachel Potter & Emoni Wilkins.

This is from the Broadway Play WICKED! The short man is Eli ( Ellie ). Earl left the group in 2020. Cesar is new to the group to take J.Nones place who joined the Navy in June of this year. The beatboxer is Layne and of course, there's Geoff. Rachel is reprising her role as Elphaba ( Wicked Witch ).

@@YBPlaysMusic It's ok everyone new gets confused with the members. How to pronounce their names. I did when I first started watching. Had to make lists of who was with the group and who left, who joined when, check the dates on videos, etc.
@@Broomrider1492 As far as I am aware, Rachel never played Elphaba. She was the Glinda understudy on the Wicked National Tour in 2010 or 2011.
The production is indeed from a Broadway musical. Wicked, the story of the Wizard of Oz is told from the Wicked Witch of the West’s point of view.
The portion Popular is Glinda, the Good Witch’s part and she is always coming down in a flurry of bubbles ( at least in the movie.). Geoff’s portion of Wonderful is the Wizard of Oz. He originally comes in from Kansas, hence the reference to a small town hick. He settles in the Emerald City, which is at the end of the Yellow Brick Road. He pretty much runs the entire area. Hope that helps. I haven’t seen the musical but grew up watching the movie.
VoicePlay did a fundraiser video for musicians during the pandemic last year, Just Sing. If you watch the video with the captions turned on, you will see the names of many of the people that they have done collaborations with over the years along with past members. Rachel Potter is their most frequent collaborator. One of the earlier ones was Phantom of the Opera which is even more theatrical than this one.

VoicePlay has so many great collabs with Rachel Potter, among others their cover of "Attention" (primarily with Eli and Rachel as leads, but the real Earl shines there as well 😀😉), and the "Little Mermaid Medley"! For more VoicePlay featuring Emoni, I recommend "I Love Me", it's so good and fun!
Their previous baritone, J None, left this June and their previous high tenor, Earl, left last year. Cesar (standing next to Geoff) joined this August as "baritone / tenor", but they are still down one member. Eli is now called tenor (as long as Earl was part of the group Eli was "second tenor"). Eli has great range though. He's definitely a tenor but I’ve read that he also sings the bass line live when Geoff does the lead and that he probably sings the bass line while Geoff sings the lead in this song. Edit: I’ve learnt in the comments below that Eli doesn’t sing the bass line in their studio recordings, so not in this song either.

@@owenplaster9825 yes, I know Geoff often is double tracked in studio recordings, but I've seen many comments that this sounds like Eli.
Eli doesn't track bass. Geoff talked about this in a QA. Geoff was double tracked and Eli lip synced bass.
@@Shadow7134 Ok, thanks! But is it correct that Eli can cover bass lines live? I’ve watched a vocal range video, they say he does the bass in Moana which I know is incorrect. But I concluded that it seems rather certain that he can sing F2, so he may do bass lines live?
@@veronicathunander4579 I can't honestly confirm. But the difference between range and usable range is vastly different. If you know something I don't gladly share! :)
Great reaction, VP change members so much it is hard to keep the members straight if you arent following them regularly, and as a reactor you go back to older videos with older members. Dont worry, we VP fans are a very forgiving bunch

Geoff often has what we would call a nasal sound. He keeps the sound very forward in his mouth too. If you're not familiar with Rachel she appears with them in the Disney songs The Little Mermaid, and Moana. The new member is Cesar de la Rosa who joined them and appeared in Butter, If I Were a Rich Man, and We're Good, to start with.

The medley is about the Broadway musical Wicked and the clock behind them is part of the iconic staging of the musical. Rachel and Emoni have worked with VoicePlay before, you can see Emoni in The Bones, Can't Believe It and I love me, Rachel has a ton of collaborations with them, The Little Mermaid Medley, Kidnap Sandy Claws, O Holy Night, The Phantom of the Opera and more.
For their names:
Eli (pronounced Ellie): he's the bald tenor, you mistook him for Earl who was the high tenor but left last year.
Cesar: He's the newest member, he's a tenor/baritone, he's the one with the "The Weekend hairstyle"
And you know Geoff, Layne, Rachel and Emoni.
Earl is no longer with VP. The bald guy is Eli (pronounced EL-EE) who sings lead tenor, baritone and is a very versatile in range and style. Cesar opened the song and joined VP when J None left to join the US Navy - he came back as a guest to do their Halloween song Friends on the Other Side. The blond is Emoni and the long dark hair is Rachel Potter, a frequent guest. Emoni has also sung with them before. All the songs are from the Broadway hit - Wicked.

Loved your reaction! It's difficult to catch up with all of the singers in VP at first - in part because there are about 9 years of performances on youtube, and in part because they use anywhere from 4 to 6 singers. (They formed in 1997, right out of high school. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatbox) were founding members.) The first singer is Cesar, he's also the newest permanent member of the group. Earl left in mid 2020. The tenor here is Eli (pronounced El-ee), and he's with VP since very early 2000's. There are currently 4 permanent members of VP - J left last spring to join the military, then was back for Halloween's drop and a couple of shorts. Tony (another founding member) was back for Halo. So even when folks leave, sometimes they come back. Both Rachel and Emoni have sung with them several times before.
Actually it was Scott who came back for halo. He was the beat boxer before Layne. Tony was their baritone and J replaced him. Tony and Layne co-own PattyCake Productions which is definitely worth a look.

The dark hair girl is Rachel Potter, and the Blonde is Emoni Wilkins. They both collaborated with VP multiple times, Rachel more than Emoni, I think.
Earl, one of the original members since 1997, left the group in 2020. The bald guy (amazing voice!) is Eli (pronounced like LE).

Rachel was the understudy for the wicked witch in the traveling production of wicked. You can listen to the original tracks and you can tell she learned the actual part.
Rachel brings your head up so high and Geoff comes in and undercuts your guts.
Yeah, Rachel ended on an C#5 - F5 slide and Geoff went down to a chest-fry C#1. This guy's range is so wide that he could've even sung Rachel's parts in this medley 😄
