Today I'm reacting to VOICEPLAY (with Geoff Castelucci) with Pirates Of The Caribbean's song "Hoist The Colours featuring Rachel Potter & Emoni Wilkins.

Guys, I recorded this reaction before my reaction to their "Wicked Medley" video, so keep that in mind! ;)
The guy in the white jacket is Cesar. The guy in the middle with the longer beard is Jose. And indeed the guy on the right the bold guy is Eli. And your right about Layne and Geoff. This song comes in Pirates 3 At world's end when the pirates are hanged with that little boy. It's the opening scene.
Eli is a chameleon - he can be smooth as butter or sound like he fronts a metal band. And sometimes he has an R&B sound... They all have incredible ranges. Check out their latest drop - the Wicked Medley. If you haven't seen Queen in 5 minutes, that's a great medley too.
indeed, that's a very good comparison! In the rough parts, he could somewhat remind me of the singer of Iron Maiden for example :p

Jose Rosario Jr. is currently a tenor in the esteemed a cappella group, Rockapella.
It's difficult to keep track of the VoicePlay members when you're not watching videos in chronological order as they've had personnel changes over the years, and two relatively recently.
I definitely noticed that :p

Voiceplay are going through a transition period. Several member losses/changes. This has allowed them to bring in guest artists, which in my opinion has allowed them to produce some amazing music and arrangements to keep them in the A Capella scene.
Jose was also in their My Mother Told Me. They were Vikings in that one. This is Geoff's arrangement and Eli did the lighting. That's the new guy Cesar De La Rosa in the white shirt. The man with the beard is Jose. Next is Eli ( Ellie) bald man ) bottom on course is Layne beatboxer and Geoff. Earl left the group in 2020. J. None the other black man left the group this past June to join the Navy.

You say "J. None the other black guy" above, like you think that Cesar is black also. He is most definiitely Hispanic, not black. You can't lump every dark skinned individual into the "black" category,

I was answering YB as he referred to Ceasar as black. Besides everyone who knows VP knows that Cesar is Puerto Rican.

Eli has sung in rock bands in his younger days and still does perhaps on occasion, so can really belt a song, but has been a member of VoicePlay for years now. He goes pretty high in their new one, Wicked. The song appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, first by the boy on the gallows, and the other thieves and beggars, and later on the film as well.
Yeah, he definitely can do some awesome belts apparently!

Their performance make the song sound really different from in the movie. It's started by a young boy early in the story when all the townspeople are being led to the gallows to be hung for helping the pirates of some such. As to the singers here Jose Rosario Jr. is the guy in the center wearing the captain's jacket. Earl (the big buff guy) left the group and J None left to join the military. Cesar de la Rosa if the one in the white jacket. He's the newest group member; this is only his 3rd or 4th video as a member. Check out If I Were a Rich Man/Girl and Friends On the Other Side from The Princess and the Frog. J None joins them for a role that was perfect for him.
Love when Eli goes rock mode. This is from the 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean.
As you know Earl left and then J None left (he joined the military. The new guy (the guy here in the white coat with the "eye") is Cesar de la Rosa. He's a real credit to VoicePlay. Jose Rosario Jr. was the taller gentleman in the back row in the middle. I have seen Jose Rosario Jr. in productions of "Hamilton". That's where I know him from, but he may have done other things as well. Next, check out Voice Play's cover of the "Halo" theme.
Jose was a member of Rockapella and is in the Chicago company doing Hamilton. He occasionally collaborates with them (My Mother Told Me - a Viking saga) as do many others, especially since both Earl and J have left them one member short.
Fun fact: Jose who is the captain in the center at the back and Cesar who is to his side with the blinded eye went to high school together and appeared in Les Miserables together.
Layne originally was the baritone for this group until Scott left for acting then he became the beat boxer and has a lovely voice. (Scott appears in their HALO theme and is the person who narrates at the end ) Layne, and surprisingly Eli, often provide the bass line when Geoff is the person singing.
Eli does a great job in Carry on my Wayward Son. He really gets to rock out - not for very long but it is impressive. To really get a good picture of who Cesar really is I would recommend watching Bang. He has a lot of fun in that one - they actually all do - but it really shows his playful side. Because you don’t know all the players I thought I’d tell you that they have another guest person in that production (and others) his name is DeeJay Young and he is a high tenor. He can also be seen in the Man in the Mirror which is the last production that J appeared in before he left for the Navy.

Jose is the guy in the middle. He is a featured guest. The guy on the far left in the white is Cesar, their newest member. J. None (the black guy) left for the navy. Earl also left. So they are down to 4 "Official" members: Layne, Geoff, Cesar and Eli. Eli is the little bald guy with the rockstar voice. :)

Check out “My Mother’s Told Me” which is the first video Jose sang with Voiceplay before J-Non left. Cesar is the newest member and you should check out “Butter” which introduced Cesar as part of Voiceplay and “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof and their recent melody of Wicked. They are just a joy to hear.

We have recently lost in the last year Earl to his solo career and J-Non who is serving in the US military as a singer. Both were amazing but Voiceplay keeps reinventing itself no matter what!
I don’t know if anybody mentioned it but the song is in Pirates of the Caribbean At World’s End. Right at the start, I think. Great reaction!! I look forward to more!
Man on back left - Cesar de la Rosa the newest permanent VP member is a replacement for the recently departed J None (baritone) who joined the US Navy. J came back for a guest shot as lead in Friends on the Other Side for Halloween
Center back - Jose Rosario Jr; bari-tenor and stage performer who guested several times
Right back bald guy - Eli (EL-EE) is lead tenor and sings down to baritone. He has a large range and the ability to change styles from crooning to metal scream gritty voice
Left seated - Layne (former singer, now beatboxer) is childhood friend of Geoff's and one of the founders of VP
Right seated - Geoff - well, Geoff is Geoff and he held an F1 for the final refrain and another founder of VP
Earl has left VP. He was a first or top tenor. He has not been replaced.
Cesar is the black guy who took Earl's place in VP. The big guy between Eli and Cesar is Jose Rosario, Jr. who has worked in Hamilton in Chicago among a host of others.
I would recommend Geoff's cover of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. It's really well done.
Do you know Geoff Castelucci has his own channel with great music as well. He harmonizes with himself. Since Christmas is nearing I would check out his God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. Another great one is Jack's Lament.
I love the Rock Opera feel on this. I would love to see an entire Voice Play Rock Opera.
Jose has the big beard, featured artist...to his right is the NEWEST full time member of Voiceplay Cesar De La Rosa. Song is from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3.......near the beginning.....first sung by young boy......picked up by the condemned pirates.
VoicePlay competed on The Sing-Off back in 2014 or 15. They did a routine called Road Trip and it is live. It has more of the original members (remember that they got together in middle school chorus) Layne, Geoff, Elie, Earl and Tony.

I believe it is hard to tell who all is contributing to different sounds/effects at times because they are doing a little layering in the studio on those parts.
You must watch the new video from Pentatonix "To The River"...you'll be making the same stank face throughout. Lindsey Sterling is a guest violinist...she and Kevin sound incredible!!!

Very good you rewind a bit after every interruption, but... you fragment the song very, very often. I wonder if you can even understand and see the song as a whole, with so, so many fragmentations.

This was my introduction to voice play so now the rest of their videos are ruined for me because this one’s the best- also my favorite singer in this is Cesar and since he’s new it’s hard to find videos with him
Earl is no longer in this group. And Eli, (Bald guy) is pronounced like saying letters. L and E. Eli = L E. At least the last time it was explained to me. And the song was in the beginning if the movie. Great post, and thank you.

Yeah well my dad was. I grew up with such a voice. Easy enough to recognize for me. His voice was so chilling, he put me into sleep.just by reading stuff. It could have been a manual for some washing machine..😂😂
IMO Earl goes higher than Eli, but earl has a smoother voice while Eli does a more metalic voice, witch catch up more attention.
