Wow , never know what one of my favorite reaction peeps put up , i went to school with him some 55 years ago and would never have envisioned how far he would go in life. An aussie legend.
Between the Emmanuel Brothers I thought Tommy was the most accomplished but Tommy was the drummer in their band. Not only great, but he is humble. Fairdinkum, he was the drummer.
His brother still gets around to the local clubs all over Australia.more so the pubs than clubs

Tommy is arguably the greatest all-around acoustic player to ever live. He can play any style with equal mastery. It's surreal listening to him play. Great reaction, guys. Thank you.
Wait. What? Who? OMG !!! I am completely astounded and dumbfounded that I don't know who this guy is. I have been playing guitar for over 50 years and even though I am somewhat a metal head, I fancy myself to be a chord monster jazz guitarist too. That said, I know Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Glen Campbell, Al DiMeola and George Benson among others are legendary Acoustic Guitar players (as well as electric) but this dude is freakin' "Magic". So seamless and fret sure it just gives me goose bumps. That was the most amazing rendition of a song I have played my own version of since High School that I feel like A Total Noob after hearing it. Don't get me wrong, Classical Gas is a Masterpiece and it is absolutely not easy to play even for a seasoned guitarist but that was "Mind Blowingly Ridiculous". All I can say is "Daaaaaaaaaamn"!!!!!!!!!! KMM
Oh my.. thank you for reminding me of the song. For whatever reason I haven't heard it in probably 10 years despite it being exactly as breathtaking as you said.
That song is otherworldly beautiful. So gentle, so nuanced and - for a man who can play with the gods - so simple. Deceptively simple, no doubt, but it's right now my favorite of Tommy's.
Mason Williams was the head writer for the Smothers Brothers, and premiered the song on their show. It reached number two in the summer of 1968, behind the Doors' "Hello, I Love You".
Videos don't do him justice. I was about 6 feet from him when he performed in New Orleans. He is mind blowing. I met him after the show, a very humble and nice person.
Tommy Emmanuel is a genius. Many folks don’t realize how INSANELY technical what he is doing ACTUALLY is. But the guy, in his head, already knows what each position sounds like as well as what each type of attack on the string will combine to produce and can hit every note or chord at will. It’s literally one of the most brilliant things to watch and hear. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Tommy is the most skilled guitarist ever. Most of the legends have already said it. Guitar players are known for hearing other guitar players and saying "I can do that" unless the other player is Tommy.
The legend that is Tommy Emmanuel ! Probably the finest exponent of the acoustic guitar ( and any other guitar ) in the Universe ! There are acres of brilliant guitarists and there's Tommy ! I have watched him and listened to him " a million times " and my jaw still hits the floor. For all his epic skill, he still has time for the budding learner and always ready with help or a tip or two !
Crazy thing is, he doesn't only just play acoustic that well... he's just as incredible on a telecaster too. Seen him many times in concert, a very humble, pleasant and down to earth guy too. Legend
I do not know who you 2 are (i do now) or what level of music skill you both have. But when i watched this video all i saw were 2 young musicians with huge smiles on their faces as you both grooved along with Tommy. It put a smile on my face. Learn from the best kids.
Thats just nuts. I saw Tommy live in Wellington NZ years ago, he sat on a stage with an acoustic guitar for 2.5 hours and got a standing ovation. Unbelievable.
Saw Tommy play this live and, even though I knew what was coming, my jaw was on the floor at the end of the performance! Master of his craft, as you say!
We’ve been listening and watching Tommy play for years here in Australia, yes he’s brilliant . He used to play with his brother too, sadly passed away. The 2 playing together are amazing. We have so many musical treasures here in Aus 😊
Loved the segue into "Walk, don't run", by the Ventures, then Sir Elton's "Saturday Nights all Right for fighting".... And, yes, his are eyes are shut through out the song...
I don't know if you noticed this but around 5:18 in this song he is fast strumming chords up and down with his fingers while his thumb is anchored over the top on the 7th fret. That's a whole other level of manual dexterity!
Saw him 2 years ago. Best performance I have ever seen was supposed to be an hour and a half and he rocked out for 3 hours no joke. I gladly missed my train home. Literally listen to everything he's a true inspiration. No matter the style you play there is so much you can learn from him.
The pecking order is: Average guitar players -> good guitar players -> great guitar players -> legendary guitar players -> undisputed all-great guitar players -> The Emmanuel Brothers
Hi wolfhounds ,, I’m an Aussie so thank you so much for your wonderful reaction to our Tommy ,, I know he lives there in good old USA ,,,, I have seen him live several times and you are in for a treat if you ever see him ,,, his brother phill ,, now no longer with us is just as awesome you can find vids of them together a real treat. ,,,,Robby Aus 🎸😎👍🍺
Saw Tommy and his brother Phil in the early 80s at Byron Bay Australia and then a decade later at Bondi Beach, they are amazing. Love from Australia ❤️
I have seen them live a few times back in Uni - when it was the Emmanuel Brothers - they were both spectacular musicians. I haven't encountered a new age guitarist of this calibre since I heard The Dooo a year ago!
I was lucky to see him live back in the 1980's he was incredible, it was in a small Venue. His brother is also a talented player. Proud of our Australian musicians.!!
Tommy is one of the greatest musicians in the world and one of the nicest people on the planet. I've spent a fair amount of time with him and can vouch for that. If you ever get the chance to see him live, do not miss it!!
You guys are so cool. Love seeing people 253 years younger than me getting into brilliant artists. You both have open minds. The future bodes well..so long as you two stay together !! (No pressure).
Oh my -- I've been geeking out over this video for the past week or so, and I just discovered your reaction to it. What a relief to be able to share this experience with other musicians! The other video that is just driving me crazy is his performance of "Amazing Grace." Just insanity.
Tommy is a treasure. He is a wonderful ambassador for the guitar, and music in general. He is also one of the most talented players on the planet. He claims to have started out as a drummer, in his family’s band. He recently lost his brother, who he loved playing with. Tommy can shred on electric, as well. He does not read music, so he learns by ear, and memorizes all these songs.
If you want more Tommy insanity, check out Sultans Of Swing - Tommy Emmanuel, John Jorgenson, Pedro Javier Gonzalez. 90%+ of us know the song, but their spin/jam on it is AWESOME! 😁
Is perfection possible. Perhaps. Truly gifted. Speaking of Eddie and his passing...no wonder he mentioned this man in the past. My first time watching. Thank you. Wow
Just Ran Across You 2 About A Week Ago , Both Are Awesome & Cool As All Get Out !! Glad You Have Discovered Tommy Emmanuel .... He Is Phenom. Have You Heard His Rendition Of Somewhere Over The Rainbow ?? I Highly Recommend It !! Take Care !! 😎👍
That was a great reaction video! Love that you’ve discovered my fellow Australian, Tommy. He’s a legend. Not just the country’s best, but one of the worlds best
That is how you percuss and shred an acoustic guitar. Self taught. Unable to read sheet music. Lovely, lovely man. Thanks for reacting to Tommy Emmanuel.
One of the greatest Aussie guitarists ever. I was introduced to Mr. Tommy Emmanuel by means of his TED Talk where he played a bit of this song to demonstrate his techniques. I later found this video of his legendary cover song and got hooked. This is literally my go-to acoustic guitar song to listen to when I'm not having a great day. So glad you both enjoyed this song as much as I did.
Wow , never know what one of my favorite reaction peeps put up , i went to school with him some 55 years ago and would never have envisioned how far he would go in life. An aussie legend.
You must’ve bought him breakfasts and maybe then he’d shared with you some of his skills after all)))
Between the Emmanuel Brothers I thought Tommy was the most accomplished but Tommy was the drummer in their band.
Not only great, but he is humble.
Fairdinkum, he was the drummer.
Deadset legend.
Thats so cool 😀
His brother still gets around to the local clubs all over Australia.more so the pubs than clubs
Tommy is arguably the greatest all-around acoustic player to ever live. He can play any style with equal mastery. It's surreal listening to him play. Great reaction, guys. Thank you.
Tommy is an Aussie legend. Great to see him get a reaction. Glad it’s you guys!
Thanks
He needs reacted to more! I check every so often. It's starting to pick up.
Wait. What? Who? OMG !!! I am completely astounded and dumbfounded that I don't know who this guy is. Tommy is just something else. His song "Those Who Wait" is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created.
Song literally brings tears to my eyes.
Oh my.. thank you for reminding me of the song. For whatever reason I haven't heard it in probably 10 years despite it being exactly as breathtaking as you said.
True words
That song is otherworldly beautiful. So gentle, so nuanced and - for a man who can play with the gods - so simple. Deceptively simple, no doubt, but it's right now my favorite of Tommy's.
Agreed.
It was apparently written after a dispute with his record company and was a big F$%^ you to them if the story is true.
Tommy is the undisputed best in the world. No one can touch him.
He keeps up this pace for a couple of hours during his live shows and he's almost 70 years old.
There's a reason Chet Atkins gave him the title CGP (Certified Guitar Player)!
DEFINITELY one of the very best EVER ( No matter the genre) to play the guitar!! Hands down!
ABSOLUTELY!!
100%
Tommy is so badass. I've seen him live a couple of times and met him personally. Funny and down to earth guy.
Mason Williams was the head writer for the Smothers Brothers, and premiered the song on their show. It reached number two in the summer of 1968, behind the Doors' "Hello, I Love You".
Yep. That's it. That's the face everyone makes the first time they hear Tommy Emanuel play a guitar.
Videos don't do him justice. I was about 6 feet from him when he performed in New Orleans. He is mind blowing. I met him after the show, a very humble and nice person.
Tommy is an unbelievable player. Wow. I’m so glad to have you guys watch him. By the way, he can’t read or write music. Yeah-one of THOSE guys.
WOW!!!!!

I saw him with his brother, Phil, in Goldrush. Phil played guitar while Tommy played banjo, euk and other instruments... And yes, some guitar too.
I think what's crazy is he actually considers himself a drummer first.
He plays The Ventures “Walk Don’t Run” & “Saturday Night Is Alright For Fighting “ by Elton John!
I do not know who you 2 are (i do now) or what level of music skill you both have.

As an Aussie fan of yours - so great to see Tommy here! I will make another rec in a minute...
He's a great guy too, he's done so much for up and coming guitarists, a genuine music lover.
I don't know if you noticed this but around 5:18 in this song he is fast strumming chords up and down with his fingers while his thumb is anchored over the top on the 7th fret. That's a whole other level of manual dexterity!
His thumb is "not normal". So his fingers just leave it still and do other things.
I call it the ‘Saturday nights all right for fighting’ section. Astonishing dexterity. Many thousands of hours of practice.
I've seen Tommy five times and he has never ceased to amaze me! Check out his song "Initiation".
Whole heartedly concur, especially on Initiation: total masterpiece!
I haven't seen him live YET. He's #1 on my bucketlist when this covid nonsense goes away!
@@coryCuc When you see him, fasten your seat belt!
@@377skyboss Can't wait!
Saw him live a few years back - Initiation is an outer body experience!!
Saw him in Dallas a few years ago. I was in awe.
He played in John Farnham band for a while before going solo. Absolutely the best
Yes, Tommy is a total badass.
Saw him 2 years ago. Best performance I have ever seen was supposed to be an hour and a half and he rocked out for 3 hours no joke. I gladly missed my train home. Literally listen to everything he's a true inspiration. No matter the style you play there is so much you can learn from him.

Tommy is the best guitar player of all the time! No one like him.
Roy Clark?
Roy Clark?
Are you shitting me?
Roy Clark couldn't even change Tommy Emmanuel strings.
I’ve seen him play live in Sydney, Australia. Simply amazing… His brother Phil was also an incredible guitarist. RIP Phil…
Around 4:24 he made a mistake….shakes his head. So he’s actually human…… I was beginning to wonder.
Yes he is a legend.... But the best part of his playing is the JOY with which he plays.. just look at the Mans face.. pure Joy. ❤
If you want to be further impressed by Tommy Emmanuel, watch him play Over the Rainbow. Absolutely amazing and beautiful.
AWESOME Aussie guitarist😃
Tommy is one of the greatest musicians in the world and one of the nicest people on the planet. I've spent a fair amount of time with him and can vouch for that. If you ever get the chance to see him live, do not miss it!!
This is my favorite reaction video to this stunning original. You guys rock.
Love Tommy he is in a holy realm with his guitar an acoustic angel dude plays for God, the hands are blessed
If you like this for guitar playing you’ll like the performance of John Butler playing Ocean at Fuji Rock festival Japan.
There is no guitarist anywhere in the world who plays like Tommy , a true guitar legend and my fellow Australian , love you Tommy :)
Had the pleasure and honour of seeing Tommy twice, just incredible ❤
I think Tommy's only peer was his brother Phil ! They were brilliant together
My brother played with Phil once when he was about twelve.
Saw them play Perisher View (a lodge at Perisher Valley NSW) was about 50 people there and the place was actually bouncing.
Thanks guys that was fantastic watching you guys freak out to one of the greatest acoustic guitarists of our age Tommy Emmanuel the Aussie legend.
The smiles on your faces say it all.....you just witnessed not just A genius but THE genius!!🤘🤘
one of the only guys that when he plays the guitar sounds like 3 people playing...amazing...!!!!!
Playing an expensive but beat up guitar in where he lives. Seen him and his brother on several occasions. Im blessed.
If you ever get a chance to see him live, do it because as good as he is in these videos, he's an unbelievable entertainer and even better live.
The true GOAT! When he does "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" it seems you can actually hear the words.
You guys are so cool. Love seeing people 253 years younger than me getting into brilliant artists. You both have open minds. The future bodes well..so long as you two stay together !! (No pressure).
Lol
@@TheWolfHunterZ Not To blame😅👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just saw Tommy live a month ago, he's a legend for a reason.
I have seen Tommy 3 times, in the UK. He never lets up, his skill is phenomenal. The late Jeff Beck sighted Tommy as one of his favourite Guitarists!
The master acoustic player..... Wow...sounds I have never heard....I was smiling the whole time. He made that guitar sing. Bravooooo...
FYI, the song he sneaks in at 8:02 is "Walk Don't Run" by the Ventures.
Oh my -- I've been geeking out over this video for the past week or so, and I just discovered your reaction to it. What a relief to be able to share this experience with other musicians! The other video that is just driving me crazy is his performance of "Amazing Grace." Just insanity.
Thanx for this video. Tommy Emmanuel is a kind of force of nature on guitar!!
I’ve played for fifty years and I am just good enough to understand how extra human Tommy is.
Tommy is a treasure. He is a wonderful ambassador for the guitar, and music in general. He is also one of the most talented players on the planet. He claims to have started out as a drummer, in his family’s band. He recently lost his brother, who he loved playing with. Tommy can shred on electric, as well. Wow.
Saw him in Saliba KS abour a month ago, and he did this after a 20 min Beatles Medley! At the end of his second set.
If you want more Tommy insanity, check out Sultans Of Swing - Tommy Emmanuel, John Jorgenson, Pedro Javier Gonzalez. 90%+ of us know the song, but their spin/jam on it is AWESOME! 😁
Tommy is in my opinion the greatest guitar player alive. And he is just as good on an electric.
Oh hey I've seen him live, front and center.
That must have been awesome
Tommy added in "Walk Don't Run" in the medley part.
He is even more impressive to see live...it's life changing....no joke.
He is insane live!!!!
Spanish--sounding. Mason Williams' original hit had horns, woodwinds, and a string section. He later redid it as a solo guitar piece.
Even better watching Tommy live, can't beat that
Tommy mixing the Ventures, Elton John 'Saturday' and whatever he feels like. Genius. makes me proud to be an aussie.
Thanks for giving him props. He’s amazing and has been for. Very long time
And playing beautiful Maton hand made Australian guitars.
Is perfection possible. Perhaps. Truly gifted. Speaking of Eddie and his passing...no wonder he mentioned this man in the past. My first time watching. Thank you. Wow
John 5 playing spanish flamenco style on acoustic. Its amazingly.
One of the very best - period
Just Ran Across You 2 About A Week Ago , Both Are Awesome & Cool As All Get Out !!
Glad You Have Discovered Tommy Emmanuel .... He Is Phenom. Have You Heard His Rendition Of
Somewhere Over The Rainbow ??
I Highly Recommend It !! Take Care !! 😎👍
Great reaction!! I got to see him in concert and he is pure joy to watch. He is one with his guitar.
Always loved this song. Grew up listening to "The Oldies" with my dad and played a lot of those songs in pep band for high school and college.
He's such a humble guy. The first time I heard him, I thought he must have laid down tracks, then I saw him live.
At 6:00 what’s going on with him and the guitar? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone do that before.
My 2nd eldest brother, use to have guitar lessons with Tommy.
Nice how he jumps into Walk Don''t Run
Love your videos. Regards from Bob in Ontario, Canada
You will really want to hear the original recording by the composer, Mason Williams. This version really throws the mood out the door.
The best guitar player in the world, loved your reaction, we all geek out with Tommy.. Hello from Australia.
Absolutely agree. The. Absolute. BEST. guitar player. EVER.
Another Aussie legend
At about 2:15, he makes the coolest sound ever on the guitar. He’s SO TALENTED.
This is the guy you don't want to have walk in while you're trying acoustic guitars at Guitar Center. ;-)
Lol
Actually he kinda is. He'll give you pointers and help you find the perfect guitar. He's that kind of guy.
Such a proud Aussie right now.
He was one of the people to receive a C.G.P (certified guitar player) award from the legendary Chet Atkins.
This dude just quoted "Walk, Don't Run", a 60s surf tune by The Ventures.
His sense of timing and rhythm is impeccable
