    Thanks for posting. Watching REALLY made my tics increase but it is great to hear from others like me - an adult with TS, OCD, and several other co-morbids. Would enjoy being a part of the chats with both or either of you. 45 and still ticcing STRONG here.

    It's Gary's wife here sometimes I get the urge to let a string of cuss words out like fuckshit god dammit !! And it's like it builds up inside and then I say fuckshit and I'm ok sometime I go a while without it and then it pops up I call my mom a hag sometimes but we laugh about it!!

    I'll admit it. I'm over here wanting to push the thumbs down JUST because you said it, LOL. I loved these two videos! Melissa's early videos were some of the VERY few videos I could find when stuff first started going sideways for me, since I didn't know the "lingo" and didn't know what to look for (plus this was back in 2008 when there was, I feel like, a lot less awareness and a lot fewer people coming out about tics). So thank you, Melissa! Great discussion

    at 10:40 you made an interesting point of view and ive decided to comment on it... so bear with me
    you said if you grow out of Tourettes ... and i hope goh do, i was shocked at the speed my TS took off for other greener fields i was around 22
    it was nice when that happened as far as not ticing but it wasnt like you think for me personally coming out the other side of Tourettes was basically going back thur the meet grinder ONLY backwards this time.
    for me, becoming "normal" back in the late 80s was just absolute hell... probably worse then having TS just on a different plane of existance
    for me i had 2 issues
    1. i was angry as hell and wanted revenge on any and everyone that ever crossed my path and screwed me over... i just wanted to burn the whole damn world down into ashes... find forgiveness is all i can offer on that topic
    2. waking up in a new world and not knowing how to speak the language...WOW, That i did not see comming . and that was a tough lesson to learn and i had to learn quick ... guess what? normal people threat other normal people just as savage as they treat us... the differance they do it sub consciously or hidden in a language only normal people can understand.
    when they savage us, its very direct, and in the face, we know very quickly with in a few seconds of who is going to be friend or foe when meeting people for the 1st time... to have never experianced being normal and then be confronted by strangers ...its like suddenly becoming deaf you have no clue what there intention is towards you ... you got to start guessing pretty fast while hoping for the best and learn those skill sets we never knew existed for communicating
    i was so badly damaged as a person when i cameout the other side into the relm of the normal my whole self was just broken i was essentially just an empty broken shell .. long story short i had to rebuild a whole completely new personality and spiritual soul to live in this new world i had wondered into ... it took a few years and a personality split but i eventually found myself and have found away to live and not just go thur the motions of just day to day basic survival ... i still live in and use the shadows to my advantage and never stray far from those darkened courners of the room. but i do enjoy tje occasional walk in the sun like a normal person ive learned there ways, i fit in and i see them for what they are.. some nice, some frightful, some interesting... in the end i guess we are all just people trying to make scence of this damnedable spinning rock we all call home ...or just simply earth
    your much better human then i ever pretended to be when i had TS ... your confident, and strong more so then you give yourself credit your also (evolved) and intellegent... if you survive TS then you will no doubts will have to explore your own backwards churning meat grinder... but i think you will survive it much better then i . you have a great spirit about you... rely on that when. the time comes it will sustain you in your darkest moments of the night when the dawn is still hours away
    2 books saved me, they taught me how to walk among the normals. there difficult reads not exacly passing pleasure bedside table books it took me a year to fully graphs there full content .. but what i learned with each passing reread has served me well all these years later.
    Structure of Magic 1 & 2 by John Grinder and Richard Bandler
    i thank them both for there work teaching me to see the world, to understanding it, and provide a model to live and enjoy life within its confines... id be lost if not out right condemned without there work

    I wondered how about on line colleges that let you learn at your own pace? Also teaching hospitals that may have or might start programs to help

    I don't know if it is of any help, but I have a mild Tourettes, that I'm able to control, and I'm a teacher. I speak before people, and I'm not very scared about it. The way I do it is by kind of meditating all the time and kind of concentrating on letting my attention go through both my right eye and left eye. I do this most of the time. I only have tic attacks when I go to bed.

    i crack my wrist a lot, it has been like an addiction for years now (im 22) , it feels like it gets stiff if i dont crack it for a long time and it kinda feels good to crack it. And my stephbrother used to do the throat clearing thing all the time for a pretty long time (at least a year) when he was like 15, he's 21 now but doesnt do it anymore. any thoughts on this?

      for you to respond feels like a celeb tweeting me. you're amazing and your videos are so interesting i just want to see more videos. i was actually watching one of your videos for the second time when you replied. i hope that's not too creepy. Keep it up and Much love from the Netherlands :)

      FailsForDays That's not creepy haha. It is a little weird to be compared to a celebrity, but I kind of get it because there are youtubers I admire like that. I guess I just don't think of myself as any sort of famous. And watching a video twice is definitely not weird lol. Or if it is, I'm about 20x as weird as you :p

    Different. Interesting. Nice to see two people interact that can relate with each other. Is there a spectrum for Tourettes and if it isn't do you think it should be?

    • @rursus8354
      @rursus8354 2 роки тому

      There's certainly a "spectrum". I'm a mild ticcer. Most people don't know I have Tourettes.

    I have a question; do you tic just before sleeping? Like when you are about to fall asleep.

    • @IDrankTheSeaWater
      @IDrankTheSeaWater 7 років тому

      As for me, I tic before sleep and even in my sleep. The tics can wake me up.

    • @snappleandcats8045
      @snappleandcats8045  7 років тому

      Donutautistic ditto to what Melissa said, though I haven't had many problems with tics in my sleep lately (but they have woken me up in the past). I also have to be VERY sedated for any medical procedures (such as the surgery I recently had on my wrist or getting wisdom teeth pulled, etc). I have to be completely and totally sedated or I'll keep moving even when I'm unconscious. I think, therefore, it's reasonable to conclude I probably tic in my sleep, but it's not very often or severe and it doesn't wake me up anymore.

  • @MegaSoposopo

    I cant totally relate. Because of my tourette's syndrome I'm unable to work. I have vocal tics in which I swear, I insult and threaten, and motor tics which include hitting people, giving the middle finger and touching people sexually. Because of it I can't work and people don't want to pay me for disability because I've never worked in my entire life, so I'm unemploted and without means to take care of myself financially.

    • @snappleandcats8045
      @snappleandcats8045  7 років тому

      David Santana I've never worked either. You can get financial support from SSI. It's a really small amount of money, but it honestly does help. I would also advise you to look for a disability resource center if you have one in your area and feel like you could use some help navigating the system. Our system dealing with disability in this country can be screwed up in some ways, but it's not nothing. It's just that no one's unfortunately going to tell you right away how to get what you need.

    If you guys had found out about Tourette's when you were younger do u think your life would b different?? I jus found out last year I'm Autistic I feel that way.

    • @snappleandcats8045
      @snappleandcats8045  7 років тому

      Gary Cameron I generally think it's better for kids to know what they have, but with the Tourette's specifically (and this is very personal to me), I think I would've freaked out over the fact that I can't control my own body and made it worse. That's actually basically what did happen when I figure out. So I don't think I would've chosen to know about the Tourette's. The comorbids, though, I would've loved to know about.

    yesterday i found about swearing tourettes and I find it fucking hilarious sorry :DD

    • @snappleandcats8045
      @snappleandcats8045  7 років тому +2

      Alexander Farel well 90% of people with Tourette's would disappoint you drastically as they don't swear. And yes, swearing with your tics CAN be funny at the right time, but Tourette's doesn't care about the right time. In fact, it cares a lot more about the wrong time. Imagine going into a crowded store and shouting the most offensive thing you can think of. Ok, ok, so that might be funny to mess with people just once, right? Except it's not once. You have to do that every time you're in a crowded store. You have to explain to anyone who might be offended. People assume the wrong thing. You get looks. Some people get kicked out. And it doesn't matter if you're tired or having a bad day or not in the mood to deal with the looks or if there are kids around. Not only that, but swearing might only be a small part of your Tourette's. You also have to make constant and exhausting movements and noises no matter how inconvenient the time or place. Tics can sometimes be funny, but people with Tourette's will continue to tic long after the joke is over.
