I've had a Rancilio Sylvia for years and I still can learn a lot from these videos... like running water after making espresso to fill the boiler, if I ever knew that I'd forgotten! Thanks for great lesson, now I'm going to go time my espresso!
Great video. Enjoyed that you made errors! I’ve gone through most of these within my first couple of weeks on Silvia ownership. Next up I need to get the rancilio grinder
Great video, just purchased this machine a few days ago so big learning curve. This video is very helpful in sorting out the steps you need to undertake to get the machine primed and ready.
I already have an automatic coffee machine, but I like Silvia, I want to buy it for the soul, I will make espresso on weekends, when there is no need to rush anywhere.
Great video! Thank you. I recently bought Silvia. You showed perfectly how to use it and how the learning curve should look like. Am not perfect but my new friend is very helpful.
Great video and very detailed, which I appreciated. I got the black model last month and the steam wand is so different than what I have been used to with my old Lelit machine. Taking me some time to get adjusted to it.
I recently purchased a Rancilio Silvia M. It is spitting out a lot of water (bleeding) when steaming. I try to purge the water, but cannot get pure steam ever. I can eventually froth my milk, but it could be better without wet steam. Is there a fix or a likely culprit? Or, should I return the machine while I still can? Thank you for your kind consideration. Java Jim videos are the bomb!
Great video. Thanks for that. I recently purchased the machine... Everything was working great until recently the Crema on the coffee is no longer there... as well as the expresso is coming out too slow. Also on coarser settings, its still coming out slow. Without portafilter it just comes out fine. Any idea what could be going on here? Thanks.
a good video can show please how to do 2 capuchinos but separatly becouse i listen you need to wait the machine recover presion , can show how clean correctly , and what to do to take care the machien thnks so much
So in order to activate the pump on my machine, I need to flip the coffee switch AND the hot water switch. It has always been this way in my machine. Is there something wrong with it?
Thanks so much for this video and the other on maintenance. Im just starting out and the reliability I’ve read about this makes me confident on the investment. Is this a good and long lasting beginner’s machine?
@@jonathanfitzwater6517 rust from the outside or the boiler? Do you descale regularly? I am planning to get this one soon and so far..looks like alot of work...
@@duyman8198 Hi, so this is the frame and around the drip tray mainly. Before buying, check as an earlier post suggests they have changes the frame material to stainless steel.
The new V6 is definitely now painted stainless steel. You can also buy the new frame as a separate part (it's about $200cad here from www.coffeeaddicts.ca ) and just swap the components over from your old steel frame (not a particularly hard project if you are somewhat handy). Good to see a manufacturer trying to maximize the life of their older machines.
Hi Thanks for an amazing review. I have a V6. I wanted to ask you how long should I wait for the machine to warm up every morning before brewing my espresso? I have looked at several resources online but didn't find anything for v6 version. Everyone said warm-up time is 30-45mins. Thanks in advance
you can just turn it on and once the light goes off you are good to go! see if you can taste any difference from that to a 30min wait.. also search temperature surfing
As for the Silvia always the same old story: built like tank , professional features but ........... no temperature stability, clumsy driptray. For decades nothing has been changed. Thus the Silvia is in badly need to have some updates in order to fix these issues. There is a Pro version however double the price.
You’ll waste a lot of valuable coffee when you dialing-in with that grinder. just get doserless grinder or a single dose grinder, no messy, and no waste coffee any more 🙂
✨Wow! Your so dirty! You make everything look so complicated. I can do this with my eyes closed in 5 minutes. Never make a mess. And always use a temp gauge when frothing, you need to get to 160 degrees. Your learning young grasshopper.✨
You do the most informative videos on this machine.
We appreciate that, thanks
The real world scenarios are refreshing. The dialing in challenges happen everyday.
100% dialing in is rarely shown so candidly

Hi Jim.
Just waiting in my first Sylvia. Old model and second hand but i just loved this video. Lots of info amd lots of mess. Thanks buddy 👊
Glad it was helpful!
This video is a perfect illustration of why I returned the rocky doser and went with a Kompak K3. Thanks for the video!

Hey Java Jim, Thank you for your detailed review and product demo.
My Silvia is on the way!
😎
Great video. Nice to see how you do it a bit wrong and then learn. Good teacher!

Great explanation. I have a new one and I have watched a bunch of videos but yours makes it easier to understand. Thanks very much!
Just got mine today!! So excited! :D
I want to upgrade from my barista expresss but I love how fast the barista express heats up. Plus it has a PID

my tamper came with black plastic cover. Is it removable? I tried and its impossible.

Thanks for the detailed walk-through. Would it be possible to have a similar guide (from unboxing to flushing boiler, etc.) for a Bezzera BZ model?

This is very educational. You're a great teacher
I use the Nespresso Aeroccino for my frothed milk. Is that blasphemous?
Great real world set up👍👍👍
Why no temperature surfing?
Subbed because you included mistakes ! Good video
Dude... Rancilio states very clearly "never change the grind setting while the grinder is running"
I hope they resolved the rust issue? Main body rusts quite soon in its life. I have a rusty unit and Rancilio want nothing to do with it...
The Silvia V6 has been updated with a stainless steel frame.
Jaroslav that is nice for anyone purchasing a new one. They should recall older models me thinks.

Which machine do you recommend as the better choice: this or Lelit’s machine (just like this)? Thanks
My steamer isn’t working can you suggest a fix
Did they fix their rust problem?
Yes, both V6 and the new Pro have a stainless steel frame.

ok, I have a V5 what's so great about this one? Way to sell the machine. You just prefer the espresso.
Greatness depends upon the views of the beholder.
Very good

This is a very stupid grinder. I hate it!
