    Sailing solo is something that I believe every cruising couple should try at some point. It adds experience and confidence to know that if your partner gets sick or injured, you alone can handle your vessel competently and safely. Funny enough, Katy and I have been cruising for 3.5 years now, and the opportunity hasn't come up. Or maybe we haven't created the opportunity. Either way, with Katy at her yoga retreat, Boundless' crew is effectively down to 1 and I'm seizing the chance to gain this experience in the comfort of the protected waters of the Golfo Dulce here in Costa Rica. Today I am taking you along with me as I spend this time alone with our boat, sailing roughly 12 nautical miles from Golfito to Puerto Jimenez. This episode is silent, with only the sounds of Boundless and the ocean around her. After all, I am sailing solo and don't have anyone to speak to, so a silent film is fitting 😊 I hope you enjoy!

    You both are truly inspirational and we are hoping when Kattie boards again, she could instruct us with Yoga on the foredeck. Brilliant!

    Can we just acknowledge that this was more than just a first solo sail with every boat task whirling in yr head, but with a second job of achieving amazing cinematography. Well done for doing both well.

    Great episode mate.
    The Passport is amazing.
    Good to see you both following individual and together passions. Sometimes a hard thing to do, but important for the individual and the couple.

    Great videos. I sail solo all the time, all over the great lakes. Heading for the Caribbean in less than 2 months. Quite enjoyable. You left the main haly'd lying on the deck. That's a no-no. If that's long enough to reach the prop, it could be problematic. Keep up the good work. Take care of that lovely wife.

    great video series Parker, I stumbled upon your channel and looked at the episode where your bought Boundless and then started from the first episode up to today. Love the content and how you fix issues as they arise and production. Katy makes a great shipmate! Sea Wind was a great start, Boundless gives you much more room and is more of a home. Keep them coming. The attention to detail is impressive too. Cheers Nico (UK).

    Nice episode Parker. I think you are correct. It's critical to support each other whether you are together or pursuing an activity independently. Congrats on the solo sail!

    I like that you change it up (as in your format). Pity UA-cam algorithm doesn’t.

    Sailing solo, unless you’re racing it’s slow, slow, solo - deliberate, planned.

    How long would it take to solo sail from the panhandle to Limon CR? Do you just anchor while you’re sleeping?

  • @skipugh
    @skipugh 7 місяців тому

    I don’t see a keeper line to prevent your anchor from dropping while underway. ... attach a line to the turnbuckle on the anchor. That’s incase the mechanical lock fails while underway , especially in bad weather which is, of course, when it will happen.

    I don’t usually have room or patience to up anchor so slowly.

    Too bad you missed out on the singlehand experience on the Seawind II without all the emenities you have now. Things do happen much slower on a larger boat, less scampering fore and aft. Boundless is set up pretty nice for singlehand, now test yourself alone in a blow!

    beginning of the video was like an ASMR but for my eyeballs.( 👁 ͜ʖ 👁 ) it's amazing how that significant other can sometimes make you or both of you achieve things you never thought possible. alone one can achieve but together we can conquer. ¯\_( • ‿ • )_/¯

    Still sailing in smaller boats, what is the purpose of clipping the mainsail halyard on the sailpack instead of just leaving it on the mainsail?

    • @scott.the.sailor
      @scott.the.sailor 8 місяців тому +1

      if you keep it on the head, something could catch the halyard (wind, usually) and pull it up causing tearing or chafe. I usually belay the shackle to the pulpit or a padeye on the deck. That distinction is probably less important than taking it off the head of the sail, though.

    • @MrLeventdelamort
      @MrLeventdelamort 8 місяців тому

      I would hazard a guess and imagine it prevents the shackle from annoyingly banging against the mast while anchored out.

      @@MrLeventdelamort nah, the headboard is under the sail cover so that wouldn't be possible
