That’s a slick set up. I got a xlt with the high mount camera. Turns out to be a joke when you’ve got a headache rack and a fuel tank in the bed. I wonder if the trucks without the 360 camera package have the same wiring harness with a dummy plug?
That's a great idea for those with trucks that have cameras already. I myself will hafto put a after market one in. But I've decided to use mine that is wireless from camera to monitor to where it will plug into the flat trailer plug and have it to where I can set it in different places as I need it or different vehicles
A super slick option indeed, when unhooking I'll drop a 2' 2x4 against the drivers rear sidewall and a short block in the back, hit the blocks and you're in the same spot :)
I just used a Drone that I flew up in the air for a nice aerial view of the area. Directed it wherever I needed it to and helped get me in and out of spots that others couldn't do at all.
my son has a Denali but he test drove a Dodge which had a factory camera built into in the high mount brake light on the back of the cab to view hook up .
I use an old clamp and mirror off my old truck. About a 2 dollar job but I can take it off and throw it in the tool box when I'm done. Pretty cool setup.
I am always interested in manual transmission vs automatic in both older and newer 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Maybe do a video about this topic? Mostly about potential maintenance expense and capability.
I have a ram 3500 mega cab, and can't see the ball either. I bought the magnetic yellow balls for helping hook up bumper pull trailers. And it works great for gooseneck also. Bought for $20
Another great video, I still think even with the camera it's still going too be harder too just hook up and go, verses the traditional 5th wheel hitch. My tool box block's my view also, and when I replace my stock stereo I plan on getting a double DIN so I can have a camera mounted on the tool box so I can see my Curt hitch. Another thing is climbing in and out of the bed too hook up the chain's seem's difficult IMHO
When you still had the B&W hitch, were you able to see over your Weatherguard tool box while using your factory high center mounted camera. I want to get that toolbox and don’t want to do that bed camera upgrade (although it was awesome). At least not right away.
Nice informative video as always... Re: Sunshade install or not.... I would be more worried about glare from the high-mount brake light ( assuming you have one ) at night if you ever find yourself hooking up at night or dusk - as opposed to sun during the daytime... Could you test and update if it's a factor ?
Hey that's nice camera I like that extra feature , thanks for the great idea. I was wondering if you had a chance to show a video after the fact ,with the new Cre 3000 system and the shocks that you have installed ...is there a way you could show a video on how much shock absorption or comfort the trailer rides on now , how much it helps While it's going down the road , just curious, i was thinking about getting this Cre3000 on my trailer... Thanks a lot talk to you soon
Can this camera be used while the vehicle is in drive? This would be a good back up camera for the trailer. Would be nice if you could see what’s going on at the back of the trailer while driving down the road
I just bought a new 2017 F350 DRW FX4 King ranch. It seems both front doors rattle and I have less than 1500 miles. I know you had a rattle in your sunroof have you experienced a rattle in the doors? My 1997 F350 crew cab dually that I replaced did not rattle.
On second thought, be sure the seatbelts arnt the cause of the rattles. There were some folks with 2017 Super Dutys that had what they thought were rattles until they found out that the seatbelts was hitting somewhere around the door panel when going over bumps.
Thanks, will call them and check it out! Sure would make it easier to see the fiver hitch. I wonder if the 3 brake light with camera attachment will work? Hmm!
Nice install, thanks for sharing. Was wondering if you ever reviewed a product called "Smartplug" it replaces the 30 and 50 amp service connection. Seems to make a better more secure connection, not sure it's worth the money? Seems like a good replacement to the twist lock style plugs. Thanks again.
Nice idea. I used a telescoping magnet on my 2015 Superduty to determine when I was above the hitch on my gooseneck trailer, however that proved to be difficult on my 2017 since magnets are useless on aluminum.
what about rubber/plastic grommets where you have the wires run through holes under the bed. Friction from vibrations might cut through the wire. Just a thought
Are you getting any water through that grommet? Maybe one that grips the cable would be better. Also a quick-tatch mount may be good to prevent camera from getting damaged by any "unruly" loads. Last, cable through untrimmed metal holes on the underside. After time, vibration may cut through the cable insulating jacket. Cool idea!
Hope it works for you - but I tired that and I think you will still see it is difficult to hook up, especially coming from the anderson with the inverse cone coupler. On mine, if I did not have the receiver almost over the center it would not drop, just hang up on the ball. I talked to Reese engineers at the Hershey RV show, and as I expected, the engineers-designers saw no problem. I suggested they go out and do some non 'perfect' lines ups and see how it plays. Maybe it will work for you. For me, our first trip of the year with the the conventional hitch and the ride is back and a simple 1-2-3 hook up. I get the idea the cone anderson is using is patented. Something to try - I used a 2' tall stick magnet (one of those expanding pencil styles), got the truck lined up perfect, the hitch about 1" over the top and then set the magnet in the middle of the bed just touching the hitch. Piece of blue painters tape on the pin box. Line them up and when the hitch bumped the magnet I knew I was close. Painted a bright red circle on the bed to mark the magnet areas. You'll have to add some ferrous metal though. Do you see my comment on the last video?
Big Truck Big RV I found the hardest is when the trailer is level (I have LevelUp) and the truck is not. My driveway was difficult. The trailer is completely on concrete and one side of my truck was off the pad and down about 4-6”.....
Ogre Dad beauty of what - being difficult to hook up ? You have to be dead on with this hitch, otherwise it hands up on the ball. And too high coming in is also an issue. The trailer comes down in a slight arc, too high coming in and you will miss the ball.
Looking to install one of these, would you still recommend this camera 5 years later? Was hoping to get an updated camera not one that has 5-year-old tech. What do you think? Thanks.
I'm old school, too. But boy it sure is handy! Especially now that I have (6) screws and a plate holding my neck together(repetitive work motion injury)
Hey there, love the vids. Looks like the camera is installed upside down. The jack stands when looking through the camera were on the left side of the screen as if you were standing outside on the passenger side looking over the bed.. If you were standing outside the truck bed looking over the camera, the jack stands would be on the right. Just needs to be flipped over. Probably doesn't matter in the big picture (lol) as the view for your purpose works either way. Congrats on the success of the channel. Been around since about the 10k sub mark. Keep up the great work.
It really sucks I don’t make something like this for my 2015 F-250. If you run across an item like this or similar that I would be able to use in a stock 2015 super duty lariat please let me know.
Is that plug present in the F250 super duty? I had a stereo guy install the same style camera for my gooseball, but he told me there was no plug so wired it much differently... it’s only on when the truck is in “drive”... think I got hood-winked....
I have a boatload of cameras around the truck.. endgate, cab top, mirrors, grille, etc... I think 9 in total...even have the aux screen on the monitor.
We had reverse cameras on some of our commercial trucks for checking before backing. Theory being that if you back into or over something you shouldn’t have, you have no excuse. When in doubt, get out. That being said one feature the cameras had was a shield that covered the lens when it wasn’t being used. It automatically covered the lens to protect it from dirt water and grime. I would have probably coated the cut hole with paint but I yours is aluminum not steel.
Ditching the NUCam wireless camera? I've been googling my heart out to find the wiring diagram for aux cam - thanks for the video and now I know how to tap in to it. Any idea how to get the video feed from all built-in cameras so we can use it as recording video source like a dash cam?
Sometime last year you featured NuCam which connects to a smart phone or tablet. Curious why you wouldn't just set that on the driver's side bed rail aimed at the goose ball, hook up and then move it somewhere else (since it's easily repositioned).
Have you pulled trailer yet with this connection? I’m very curious, I have a 17’ F450 like yourself and I added the Hensley TS3 to my truck and pulled trailer for first time this weekend, ride was great but the hitch jarred itself and I have to send it back to be replaced. I’m kind of concerned. I’m looking for a good ride or a better ride, I did have the same B&W prior
Thanks, well I’m on the edge of my seat waiting as I have an opportunity to return the TS3 for full refund. Just surprised that it did what it did especially as we are only pulling around 15K. We traveled from Fort Worth to the Woodlands and back.
When i was hitching up to a trailer by myself i used a tape measure and would measure the distance from the center point of the ball to the center point of receiver, then i would open my door and measure the same distance from the edge of the door to a reference point on the ground and place a stick there and when backing up i just stopped when my door edge came to the stick and it was always perfect lined up. I know its very low tech but it worked and it was free And took maybe 1 min to do.
Big Truck Big RV well then. Time to get creative. Looking for a multiple channel camera system that I can use as a dashcam as well as a rear view hookup cam... possibly 4 channel...
So you hinted at it in the video whats your plans for a rear camera on your trailer? I have a 2019 super duty on order and like the idea of the trailer AUX cam, but I have an Airstream and routing a cable to the top back of the trailer is basically not possible. Only option I am aware of is the wirless Voyager camera system, but then I have an extra display in the cab, I would prefer to use the OEM system if I were to figure out a way to do it. Seems to be a common complaint on the AUX camera that there isn't a wireless option.
Why not hookup the the new camera to the high mounted camera signal, that way you don't loose your connection for the trailer tpms(Wich it's really handy) and trailer camera. I don't know if it's even possible but I don't see why not
For those that need an alternative: Look into IBall wireless backup camera. I've had one for about 8 years from my popup days. I just looked them up on Amazon; many 4 Star reviews. They now have lithium batteries (mine has a 9v in the magnetic base remote camera.) The viewer plugs into a power port with a flexible shaft. Easily movable from vehicle to vehicle. I still use mine when backing up onto ramp boards with the motor home. (I just set the camera on the ground.) As of this date the digital version is $229. www.amazon.com/5-8GHz-Wireless-Magnetic-Trailer-Monitor/dp/B0747WHG3J?th=1
I actually have an iBall camera. It was ok, but I didn't like the screen having to be plugged into my already used 12vt outlet plus the limited range. I know it would be fine for this application, but I'd rather use the equipment built into my truck that would otherwise be dormant.
Big Truck Big RV 10-4 The digital version touts 100 feet range. My original, maybe 25, lol. All of my vehicles have 3 port power extensions with usb slots. I need more power! 😲
OK so am I crazy or does the image from the camera not look like the camera is on the passenger side vs you showing that it was installed on the driver side...? Does the camera reverse the image? Or am I just crazy?
I also had a Tundra. They are nice in terms of reliability and a cool rear sliding window, but MPGs are horrible and the frame is very thin. Nice ride on the newer ones though.
Why not use two spring clamps and a piece of string. Clamp end of string to each bed rail that is visible from you existing OEM camera with a reference mark on the goose box signaling the correct position? Simple is better.
I would love to purchase a fifth wheel like yours. However, I have to live in one for quite awhile. Can you recommend a 24 foot or longer toy hauler style? I need a toy hauler I can live in. I am for lack of better explanation, working on the road, becoming a full timer, and saving up for the perfect house (when I find it). I tell you this because the higher the trailer payment, the slower the savings account goes up. So when are you going to do a video on:1. 5th wheel toy haulers. 2. RV furniture vs. load up your own (obviously much easier to load/unload furniture with a toy hauler style. 3. How honest are the bed sizes. I know. I measured. It's inches. Queen is not always Queen. Research. Take a tape measure. This is important to me, because I have to live in this trailer for at least 3 years. I want to take my Sweden purchases with me.
Check this out: camera-source.com/2013-16-super-duty-grille-mount-front-camera-kit-for-8-displays.html You can add up to 4 cameras to your truck with this kit apparently.
The length of that cable you say 5m would appreciate you using feet and inches because some were taught that in school and don’t wish to use the metric system
A divorce was eminent as we hooked our gooseneck up to RV. This is a good idea. We decided I would back up truck and he would direct me. Works out better🥺
You got some major balls drilling into a $85k truck lol I definitely couldn't do that! But that's definitely an awesome mod! 👍👊
Well done! I love the contrast of the relatively simple install versus the level of usefulness. Awesome bang-for-your-buck install!
That’s a slick set up. I got a xlt with the high mount camera. Turns out to be a joke when you’ve got a headache rack and a fuel tank in the bed. I wonder if the trucks without the 360 camera package have the same wiring harness with a dummy plug?
Thank you very much for this video, it helped our outfitter figure out which camera to get and how to install it on our F-450
That's a great idea for those with trucks that have cameras already. I myself will hafto put a after market one in. My 2021 Lariat does not show the aux on the screen. Is this something that has to be turned on by Ford?
I have a 2020 and looking at the same issue.....
I am always interested in manual transmission vs automatic in both older and newer 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Maybe do a video about this topic? Mostly about potential maintenance expense and capability.
You did an awesome job installing that.
Justin DaShiel:l Thank you!
Awesome job. Neat job. Well explained and illustrated. Thanks much!
Man thats one slick setup im impressed

That is one fantastic idea. Great video brother.
Richard West: Thanks!
This is a great upgrade. I can imagine it will come in handy on rainy days or if you're by yourself. Cool stuff.
Nice informative video as always...
Re: Sunshade install or not.... I would be more worried about glare from the high-mount brake light ( assuming you have one ) at night if you ever find yourself hooking up at night or dusk - as opposed to sun during the daytime... Could you test and update if it's a factor ?
Couldn't you do the same with a go pro camera and your cellphone? No holes, universal, no wires and you always have your phone handy...
‘17 Titan XD - I have the screen, but no option for an aux input, that I’ve found. Still looking for options.
Hey that's nice camera I like that extra feature , thanks for the great idea.
I was wondering if you had a chance to show a video after the fact ,with the new Cre 3000 system and the shocks that you have installed ...is there a way you could show a video on how much shock absorption or comfort the trailer rides on now , how much it helps While it's going down the road , just curious, i was thinking about getting this Cre3000 on my trailer... looks good and professional, would it work if my truck was not equipped with a backup camera. Could I run it through a tablet or my smart phone.
Even if it doesn't, there are other options on their website. They have some really innovative solutions .
Thanks I'll have to check it out
You have the best gadgets.
Thank you I’ve been looking for a front camera for my F1 50 lariat
Can this camera be used while the vehicle is in drive? This would be a good back up camera for the trailer. Would be nice if you could see what’s going on at the back of the trailer while driving down the road
Just curious, why didn’t you drill the camera cord hole through the center of the bracket so it wouldn’t be seen at all?
true
Great video now I know where the auxiliary plug is.and I am already a subscriber to your channel and love your videos I learn a lot for an old goat

Going to check and see if that plug that is above the spare is on my 2014 F450. Thanks for sharing!
100% sure it's not going to be there. However, Camera-Source has equipment to add a camera to your Sync MyTouch system
Thanks, will call them and check it out! Sure would make it easier to see the fiver hitch. I wonder if the 3 brake light with camera attachment will work? Hmm!
I noticed that when you went to the inside of the truck to check the camera if it was working. But did you put it on reverse or aux 1????
Nice thing about pintle hitches is i can line up and just back up easy until clunk and im there interesting set up though
What are your thoughts on flatbeds for trucks? Let's say bradford built. Would seem like the best option for 5th wheel and goose necks.
Awesome video very informative as always and I subscribed
I have a 2016 super duty and was wondering if I can still do this application to my truck
Thank you very much for this video. I didn't realize you could buy an after market camera that would plug into a Ford auxiliary socket.
Good video! I went to the website for this camera and the website asks if you want a forward facing image or reverse image. Which one should we have?
I like that you trimmed up zip tyes
Are you getting any water through that grommet? Maybe one that grips the cable would be better. Also a quick-tatch mount may be good to prevent camera from getting damaged by any "unruly" loads. Last, cable through untrimmed metal holes on the underside. After time, vibration may cut through the cable insulating jacket. Cool idea!
no water at all.
I hope it works too :). I did read your other comment and am trying to mitigate frustrating moments by using this.
Big Truck Big RV I found the hardest is when the trailer is level (I have LevelUp) and the truck is not.
My driveway was difficult. The trailer is completely on concrete and one side of my truck was off the pad and down about 4-6”.....
porthole2
Are you new to ball hitches? Because that is part of the beauty of them over kingpin. So much more versatile
Ogre Dad beauty of what - being difficult to hook up ?
You have to be dead on with this hitch, otherwise it hands up on the ball. And too high coming in is also an issue. The trailer comes down in a slight arc, too high coming in and you will miss the ball.
porthole2
It's a ball. Sounds like operator error
Looking to install one of these, would you still recommend this camera 5 years later? Was hoping to get an updated camera not one that has 5-year-old tech. What do you think? Thanks.
Clean install👍
At the ripe old age of 69 and having spent 47 yr's trucking over the hyway I have no idea how I made it without all this techno geek crap.
Rod Parkinson: World moved at a slower pace. Damn internet and smartphones have forced everyone into believing we need all this technology.
I'm old school, too. But boy it sure is handy! Especially now that I have (6) screws and a plate holding my neck together(repetitive work motion injury)
I’d would have painted the edges of all the holes drilled. Since there is very little load on the camera, nylon screws maybe?
Never knew the location of that aux plug. Thanks.
I added a backup camera(from Costco) to my headache rack to keep tabs on the loads in my bed! Couple months ahead of you!😜👍
Great video,Love the channel.
I'm jealous, not even a spot of rust under your truck. Here in Michigan even new trucks with 2 miles have rust under it.
Did it replace the backup camera on the tailgate???
have you used the Centramatic Balancers ?
Hey there, love the vids. Looks like the camera is installed upside down. The jack stands when looking through the camera were on the left side of the screen as if you were standing outside on the passenger side looking over the bed.. If you were standing outside the truck bed looking over the camera, the jack stands would be on the right. Just needs to be flipped over. Probably doesn't matter in the big picture (lol) as the view for your purpose works either way. Congrats on the success of the channel. Been around since about the 10k sub mark. Keep up the great work.
It's because the camera is designed to be a backup camera. This makes the image mirrored. I am probably going to swap it for one with no mirror view.
Looks Factory Installed or better ! Good work !
It really sucks I don’t make something like this for my 2015 F-250. If you run across an item like this or similar that I would be able to use in a stock 2015 super duty lariat please let me know.
Gota love those step bits!
Like always , great video , but why not install a fifth wheel rather than all of this long process?
I wanted my bed to be clear. This is the best option and it even reduces my total pin weight by over 100lbs.
Is that plug present in the F250 super duty? I had a stereo guy install the same style camera for my gooseball, but he told me there was no plug so wired it much differently... it’s only on when the truck is in “drive”... think I got hood-winked....
It's only present if you have the 360 degree camera option.
I have a boatload of cameras around the truck.. endgate, cab top, mirrors, grille, etc... I think 9 in total...even have the aux screen on the monitor.
By the way... love your videos!
We had reverse cameras on some of our commercial trucks for checking before backing. Theory being that if you back into or over something you shouldn’t have, you have no excuse. It automatically covered the lens to protect it from dirt water and grime. I would have probably coated the cut hole with paint but I yours is aluminum not steel.

Can you give us the link to the camera that you bought?
Ditching the NUCam wireless camera? I've been googling my heart out to find the wiring diagram for aux cam - thanks for the video and now I know how to tap in to it.
Any idea how to get the video feed from all built-in cameras so we can use it as recording video source like a dash cam?
Noldz74: don't know. And I am definitely not ditching the NuCam. that thing comes in super handy all the time
Sometime last year you featured NuCam which connects to a smart phone or tablet. Curious why you wouldn't just set that on the driver's side bed rail aimed at the goose ball, hook up and then move it somewhere else (since it's easily repositioned).
drdit92: NuCam is great for some things. There is a small delay which isn't the best for a backup cam
I’m looking for a good ride or a better ride, I did have the same B&W prior
have not towed yet. I'll know very soon.
Thanks, well I’m on the edge of my seat waiting as I have an opportunity to return the TS3 for full refund. Just surprised that it did what it did especially as we are only pulling around 15K. We traveled from Fort Worth to the Woodlands and back.
Video idea: Top 5 “truck guy” stereotypes!
I just use my foot!
Do you know if the 2015 king ranch 450 has the same plug underneath?
It does not. That is only available with the 360° camera equipped trucks.
Big Truck Big RV well then. Time to get creative. Looking for a multiple channel camera system that I can use as a dashcam as well as a rear view hookup cam... possibly 4 channel...
I found out that if you truck does not have the mirror camera's that it does not have that plug available.
I have a wireless system with 7" monitor I'll be adding. I am going to use some creative mounting methods for the monitor.
Why not hookup the the new camera to the high mounted camera signal, that way you don't loose your connection for the trailer tpms(Wich it's really handy) and trailer camera. I don't know if it's even possible but I don't see why not
That would require a far more in depth install and void my warranty.
Big Truck Big RV yeah you're right, I forget about warranty. Check Nichols Manufacturing & Welding Services, the have products that might interest you
Can I buy your B&W hitch from ya.. I just got a F350 with fithwheel prep???
Did you use reverse or forward facing cameras?
Nice video. Thanks for sharing
if only there were plugs for 2018 ram 2500's
HOLES !!!!!😀😯😮😓😣😲😠 LOL. Good job. Like your videos 👍
No kidding! I would have drilled 2 for mounting rather than 4. Seems overkill to secure with 4 screws.
Aluminum oxidizes which is corrosion. If you leave aluminum out it will turn white. That is how it corrodes.
For those that need an alternative:
Look into IBall wireless backup camera.
I've had one for about 8 years from my popup days.

I actually have an iBall camera. It was ok, but I didn't like the screen having to be plugged into my already used 12vt outlet plus the limited range. I know it would be fine for this application, but I'd rather use the equipment built into my truck that would otherwise be dormant.

The digital version touts 100 feet range. My original, maybe 25, lol.
All of my vehicles have 3 port power extensions with usb slots.
I need more power! 😲
Still happy with the camera a year later?
OK so am I crazy or does the image from the camera not look like the camera is on the passenger side vs you showing that it was installed on the driver side...? Does the camera reverse the image? Or am I just crazy?
Mark C: no, you're correct. it will still work the same though. They are checking to see if they have a none reversed camera
At least I now know I am not going crazy! :)
Nice but you could just practice hitching 50x times to memorize exactly where goose should be in back window
northroad1: Probably won't happen. I have a hard time figuring out where I am most of the time.
Mmmm... should use this for reversing
😎🇺🇸 Hey Buddy Nice Setup 👍✌🏻
Hey can you do a video on affordable tundras please
They suck. We had one. The only cool thing was the rear window. There you go.
Shit Fucks I have an 08 TRD Double cab. I love it. Rides like a dream but sucks terribly on gas. Only a 26 gallon tank
I also had a Tundra. They are nice in terms of reliability and a cool rear sliding window, but MPGs are horrible and the frame is very thin. Nice ride on the newer ones though.
Very nice job I’m ordering this now! I have the same truck is there a part # I need or is it self explanatory?
links in the video description sir
Nice!! Clever idea!
Nice job!
I think I will just get an I-Ball camera for my setup.
Why not use two spring clamps and a piece of string. Clamp end of string to each bed rail that is visible from you existing OEM camera with a reference mark on the goose box signaling the correct position? Simple is better.
Do you ever get nervous doing permanent modifications to your truck
use to, but not anymore. Just am careful, plan ahead and take the plung
By the way, I would have made the wrong purchase months ago, if it weren't for you. Your wisdom on tires and axles and steps has helped very much.
Glad to help! In regards to your question on with Toy Hauler, do you have an idea on what layout you are looking for?
Wish I could do this on my 2016.
Check this out: camera-source.com/2013-16-super-duty-grille-mount-front-camera-kit-for-8-displays.html You can add up to 4 cameras to your truck with this kit apparently.
Big Truck Big RV thank you
The length of that cable you say 5m would appreciate you using feet and inches because some were taught that in school and don’t wish to use the metric system
K D: I agree, the cable just happened to be marked 5m. It's about 16 feet
When you see a (m), exchange that for (x3 feet)😉you're welcome
If only there were a simple way to google what 5m is in ft...
1 meter is 3.3 feet.
1 meter = 39.37 inches. We were taught that in grade school in the late '60s.
A divorce was eminent as we hooked our gooseneck up to RV. This is a good idea. We decided I would back up truck and he would direct me. Works out better🥺
Is the image reversed on the screen,
murf: yes sir
hahahah youre in my neck of the woods!!!! midessa?!?!?!
delapopo1 midessa?
Big Truck Big RV midland/Odessa Texas.
About 7 hours away :) that's close in Texas terms I suppose.
Nice!!
Stainless steel on aluminum will create rust. Just ahead up man
Gerb It: There is no metal on metal contact. The Stainless screw is simply expanding the plastic retainer.
Big Truck Big RV I gotcha, so you used something like a plastic anchor?
Gerb It: Similar. more like an OEM plastic retainer clip.
genius!
