  • 👋 Today we teach you how to properly adjust your vehicle side mirrors to avoid blindspots all together! We also install a great new product to widen your field of view even more!!! In todays video it's time to show you how to properly align your side mirrors to have ZERO blindspots and never deal with hidden areas again! This is a common question we get asked all the time and especially in smaller vehicles that we review, like the Chevrolet Camaro. We drive so many cars and currently own an Audi R8 and the GTR and don't have any visibility issues with either car. If you properly adjust your mirrors, you can see from the video, how well that can give you the visibility needed to have no more blind spots! In addition, if you install wide angle mirrors, like we did on the Tacoma, that basically gives you a wider view and opens up so much space surrounding the vehicle. I love that fact too that if I had a trailer on the back (which is every now and then), I could see around it without having to have an additional mirror strapped onto the stock one, or one of those zoomed in mirrors. This provides the truck with a factory look being one solid piece and yet provides you with the best visibility possible! Very easy and quick to install!

    I self-discovered this method about 10 years ago.
    Since then I argued with many “all-knowing-driving-instructors” that it is in fact possible to setup your mirrors with no blind spots, at least on all the cars I owned.
    …They were always in denial.
    I’m glad to see that someone else can confirm this wonderful technique!
    Thank you for sharing!

      American cars are typically huge in comparison to Asian or even European cars. The example car in this video is a gigantic truck almost double the size of the GTR which was almost out of vision when it was next to it anyway... which sort of is the point instructors have to make. Perhaps the phrasing used is outdated but the purpose remains the same - safety above comfort. You're not going to be constantly focusing on all 3 mirrors at all times while actually driving so it's much, much better to teach a novice driver to check whether it's safe multiple times than to teach them what effectively leads to complacency.
      Clickbaity title complaint aside, there are benefits and drawbacks to adjusting mirrors this way so claiming that this is the proper way and guaranteeing zero blind spots is disingenuous to say the least. For example, being able to see more of your car is useful when you're going to be parking in packed parking lot when compared to an empty driveway in the suburbs. Not being able to see where your rear wheels are will make parking in a packed parking lot significantly more challenging(which is something that a novice driver is evaluated for where I live)! You also need to take into account that you're going to be moving your head around enough to alter what you end up seeing in mirrors which is something that cannot be ignored when adjusting mirrors, e.g if you change the radio station in the GTR and check the mirror with this configuration you'll mostly see blue skies, not the enormous truck trying to pass you at high speed.
      It's preference but instructors have to teach safety above all else.

    Other youtubers also give pretty much the same tip about having the panoramic view, but they say to adjust the left mirror while leaning all the way against the window, and adjust the right mirror while leaning over the center console. You seem to suggest adjusting mirrors from just a more neutral sitting position. Which way is better?

    I usually have my mirrors like that too for my blind spots. My rule for the perfect angle is if u lean as far as you can from your seat to the right and to the left (close to your window) without acutally being out of place in your seat, thats where the mirros should be. And if i were to lean to the side both ways all the way, in my side mirrors i can see the side of my car

    Question when adjusting mirrors this way: how do you gauge if you can change lanes safely? Do you not change lanes if you see a car in your side mirror? Because it’s not pointed towards your blind spot? Or are you safe as long as the car in the other lane is on the top half of your mirror? What’s the method of using the adjusted mirrors?

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  11 місяців тому

      With the mirror popped out you'll know if a car is right at the corner of your car. If so, that'd be an unsafe lane change. So you want to make sure a car is far enough away to make a safe change

    One major thing to consider is the size of the vehicle beside you. In the video you show a tacoma (a bigger and longer vehicle) and therefore it is visible in the mirrors. But now take a mini Cooper, you still leave the potential for a blind spot right where that C pillar (typical blindspot) is since the Cooper is a lot shorter (won't be visible in the rear view) and won't be visible in the side view mirror since it is such a shorter car. Another thing to consider is highways (multiple lanes, and the space between vehicles can vary). Per the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), ideally you would have your mirrors an extra 35% outwards as compared to seeing the side of your own vehicle. The easiest way to achieve this is by leaning your head against the left window (for your drivers side mirror) and adjusting it such that only a sliver of your own vehicle is visible. As for the right hand side (passenger side mirror) position your head under the rear view (middle of the center console and do the same -- position the mirror such that you see just a sliver). This will indeed limit you from seeing far back with your side view mirrors, but that's what the rear view is for, the side view mirrors are used to mitigate the blind zones. You should anyways always be aware of your surroundings.Personally, I find that the sweet spot for me is where when I lean my head against the door or center myself on the console, seeing the front door handles is the perfect sweet spot between blindspot mitigation and visibility. If anyone is interested in the mathematics behind this approach with a fully fleshed scholarly report, check out: The Geometry of Automotive Rearview Mirrors - Why Blind Zones Exist and Strategies to Overcome Them. Author(s): George Platzer.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  9 місяців тому

      That's not true, we tested this with our motorcycles as well and you could see it fine. Smaller cars are still easy to see..When the mirror is adjusted properly like we showed, you can see the car in the rear view and in the side mirror at the same time, regardless of the size of the vehicle. If you want to set your side mirrors that far out and it works, great.

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed Respectfully, I have been a truck driver for over 15 years, biker myself, with millions of miles under my belt (not saying you don't have your own experiences, but I've seen a thing or two as well). My comment does not serve as an argument, merely an insight for anyone interested in knowing some more specifics about a PROVEN way to adjust your mirrors to mitigate blindspots (through a peer reviewed scholarly mathematical report -- the math is objective and not subjective like opinions). It was something an instructor had told me when I was getting my CDL, has never failed me yet! But to each their own as long as you feel confident, are aware, and keep others around you safe!

      I still do, but I'm still getting used to how much you can see with them. I wouldn't tell you to not check for blindspots because that's an easy check to do, but these definitely open up your view to where you really don't have any, but I still check some for safety.

      As someone who's driven with this setup for years, I haven't had to do a head check since I started driving. Check your mirrors often and you'll develop a constant awareness of your surroundings. Cars passing you are always in your field of view.

    Plus don't you hate when other drivers don't use their turn signals and sometimes they turn their signals right as they are turning and as you trying to pass them in the fast but they cut you off. I live just outside of Atlanta and it's growing rapidly fast like too fast and people are moving out of Atlanta because it's becoming the new Hollywood and everyone is moving here from this nation and around the world. I have to disagree a bit. If you don't see ANY of your car in the mirror, you have no idea how close you are to the other car, especially when parking, at the very least, the rear door handle should be visible.

Just saying for the general population, seeing a bit of your car is better because you don't have to think about your car being at the end of the mirror, you see it and there's no additional focus needed so you can focus on what's in front of you better. But, we don't have to agree to have an opinion.

      @@lidge1994 true. But those people probably shouldn’t be driving lol. But when you turn your head slightly that’s when your car should come into the mirror view. So head straight you won’t see your car, but once you start turning your head that’s when you’ll see it. That will give you the best field of view. And it’s still good for people to practice the best habits from the beginning

    good tips, but you should've tested with a cyclist or a small motorcycle, not a huge truck. of course a huge truck will never be in your blind spot no matter how you adjust your mirrors. you shouldn't give the impression that you can adjust you're mirrors to completely get rid of the blind spot, a motorcycle could be there. always check your blind spot people.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  2 роки тому +2

      Yes that is a good point of course, but when you have the mirrors properly adjusted, it will take the blind spots away because you can always see behind and to the side. We ride motorcycles and yea they can still be hidden anywhere on the road, but obviously you still need to look and be mindful of that.

    That is the SAE Method-- it is recommended by numerous authorities. It is wrong to think it eliminates *all* blind spots. You are really displacing or trading the blind spot for another. For example, recently I had a dog run up alongside my car right in the middle of busy traffic. The dog must have escaped from a vehicle... Just before I was going to enter the unprotected Left Turn area upon the green to make my Left Turn, I noticed an odd shadow coming in low on my Left Side, and it appeared off my mirror which at that time was set to the Standard Method. Had I had the mirror set to the SAE method, I wouldn't have noticed the dog. I alerted the opposing traffic of the dog. Now that could have been a child, a person or a bicyclist. So I think the SAE method, while great for covering your Blind Spot upon lane changing--it would be a good idea to set some Blind Spot mirrors that cover the Standard View at the lower rear and side of the car.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  2 місяці тому

      Never heard of that, just adjusted them to what I thought was best, works very well. Obviously a small object around any vehicle would be very hard to see no matter how the mirror was angled. Mirrors weren’t designed to see straight down for a situation like that.
