In the 1800s my great grandparents immigrated from Ireland and England and settled in Buhl Minnesota. My great grandfather had a college degree in mining and became the mining superintendent at the Buhl mine. His name was Robert Murphy. My grandfather (Samuel Thompson a Norwegian immigrant also worked at the Buhl Mine and so did many of my uncles. I was born and raised in California and have live here for sixty-seven years but have been to MN many times and have always loved the state and its people.
I was raised in Poland and there's no sound that I love more than the sound of Wilga engine! It's a nice plane for flying low and slow, but where it excels and really shines is in towing gliders, especially when you need to tow 2-3 of them at the same time or a lot of them in quick succession-as in gliding competitions. Wilga was designed for that purpose-to be a glider towing workhorse. I loved the video- amazing landscapes, great aerial views and technical aspects of it are great too. It just feels very professional. By the way-a "fun fact" for you guys- "Wilga" is pronounced "Vilga" in Polish and it's our name for a bird that is called Eurasian golden oriole in English.
Thank you Zane for the film. Living in the Pacific Northwest now it was SO nice to see Somthing from back home. And of Eveleth on top of it...where I learned to fly! Scud running rivers, private strips and people I accually know and recognize . Even the ore mine I used to work at! As beautiful as it is in this area of the country, watching this made me wish I was back home. What an awesome short film. Thank you.
I follow most of the popular Backcountry vloggers and channels but this is next level, thank you for making my day! Kepp the passion and keep pushing the standards and limits for others to follow.
Amazing video, incredibly well done! It's so inspiring.. makes me want even more to be part of that wonderful community! Thanks for making this and congrats on being a dad!
Really, really awesome film!! We've explored around the area some with our friends @ Cirrus in Duluth, but mostly at 'Cirrus altitude'. Now you've provided extra motivation to go do it in the bush plane!
Thank you for putting together such a nice short film. A lot goes into the making of something this calibre and I admire your work and the others who helped you. You should be proud of your work! The video put a warm smile on my face as I was glued to all 65 inches of my TV screen. Very nice music which was mixed in at a good level to not distract from the content. I will be sure to check out some of your work when I have more time. For now, I am going back to work on my 1/5 scale Super Cub R/C plane. It has flown well of it's scale tundra tires, but now it is time to finish the install of the float kit. I love RC flying almost as much as flying full scale planes, but cannot get my medical due to problems with spine pain. So watching content like this keeps my mind on flying and always hoping some day I will get cleared to fly again. Best regards, Vince Caruso Palm Harbor, FL
Excellent - really enjoyed that - thanks very much, very relaxing. You have great video/photo's skills, I liked the little split in the credits at the end to allow the ducks to paddle through haha, very clever, nice touch. I have subscribed so will be checking out your other stuff. Cheers from NZ.
Another fantastic, inspiring video. Your production quality and passion for general aviation are really sublime. Greetings from a private pilot in training from Germany!
Thank you for this awesome movie! I like this wilga on that color I spotted for sale not long time ago & I think it's the best low flight cockpit view in the wilga I never seen on youtube ,)
Great Clint Eastwood voice. That big motor sure is growly. I am partial to Wilgas for looks, but that Cub is a natural for water. Minnesota is impossibly wet to a Utahn.
Very nice video, especially considering one of the stars of the show(N399HY) was my plane until I sold it to Gary. I had flown the Husky on wheels into both Jaranson's and Anderson's on the Fall Color Tour. Good times! Still regret selling that Husky.
Absolutely excellent, your films have alway been top notch and this time you have taken it to the next level. A true inspiration for wannabe film makers like myself. ...and congratulations to the fatherhood! Regards, Fred
Absolutley awesome, next time you’re in the area, you have to head up towards duluth and visit sky harbor on park point, many float planes and unique things to see. Link up with our family and we will show you a great time in a beautiful Cessna 185 skywagon
Would love to meet up. Would like to spend some more time around Duluth, since we are considering moving to MN for the lake/floatplane lifestyle. :) Shoot me an email to info[at]backcountrypilot.
Awsome video! I'm 2 months away from soloing (7 - 8hrs). I was originally born in Duluth, but have never been up to Virginia or Eveleth, or even Orr. I live by St. Cloud, mn now.
wow! That was a beautiful film you put together. (: I love flying, I can't afford a plane so I fly my paramotor, lol it gets me my fix. I am subbed. Can't wait to watch more of your creative wonderful films. cheers from the Rockies in Canada. Oh, and you have a great voice for narrating, you should do professional narrating. (: blue skies
Another excellent film! Your production and film quality get better with each film. You should try to make one in northern Ontario and fly into some of the fishing lodges there.
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I have a 100 hp Champ (early Citabria) with 8.50s/scott 3200 on it and would love to fly with you guys, give a shout if ever in Auburn CA!
Another awesome video, I really enjoyed it. One doesn't normally associate Minnesota with backcountry flying so it was neat to see that perspective. Your videos are so well polished. I wish mine came close in production values. I actually enjoyed the cockpit footage done with the Osmo. It's hard to put my finger on why, but I think it looks better than cockpit footage done on a conventional camera.
Very nice video. means maybe more to me than some, I have a strip about 10 miles S of Jarenson's strip and have flown there and to Lees often. Also have flown with Ryan back when he owned a supercub. Jim
Fantastic video! I think you should keep the Osmo for another filming technique! Maybe not for all the shots, but I think it really brought the feeling of slaloming around the trees!

Wonderful videography and story telling. Simply wonderful.
One of the best aviation short films I've ever seen.
Really enjoyed the video! Great work with the filming and editing.
would love to see some of this kind of flying on your channel stevo

Thanks! Considering moving to MN so perhaps more of this in the future.
What a wonderful movie. Thank you for posting this. Very relaxing to watch.
JUST WOW....! You're amazing. Planning, lenses, angles....the works..! Congrats.
Nice to see my old stomping grounds. Scotts and Sky Harbor, were fuel customers of mine in the 90s. Had a place on Horseshoe Lake for about 30 years.
I follow most of the popular Backcountry vloggers and channels but this is next level, thank you for making my day! Kepp the passion and keep pushing the standards and limits for others to follow.
Thanks Darren.

You are the winner! Beautiful video. I feel like I just went flying for 21 minutes!
Really, really awesome film!! We've explored around the area some with our friends @ Cirrus in Duluth, but mostly at 'Cirrus altitude'. Now you've provided extra motivation to go do it in the bush plane!
I had a fond recollection watching this..thank you.
Great video as always Zane. Simply excellent.

Great talent! Very well done. You pulled me into your story. Your filming, editing and cinematography remind me of "Fly Away Home".
Lovely film. Lovey to be able to fly like that. 😁
This was a great video! We were just up at Crane lake this past July, & stoped in to see Scotties.
Amazing video! I’m originally from MN, and I can’t wait to move back. You did a great job of capturing some of the beauty of the north woods.
Marvelous film of the other aviation.
Thanks for taking the time to piece together a great story, even with the shortened amount of flying days you had. Great shots. Loved it!
love this video. I so love amphibian flying and this is a very well done video. Thank you for sharing it.
i want to learn to fly so bad after watching this...flying r.c. planes is fun for only so long lol...thanks from chisago city.
