    Very cool! I've been using the metal marshmallow pro to record drawing noises but this would be cool to make a custom drawing board with multiple pickups.

    Breadboards are definitely spoils people. Put aaaaaall into them, no matter is there really need or not.

    Hah! Building a phantom power supply for the preamp I picked up a little while had been on my to-do list. This is easier!

    This is awesome. I'm in the UK so postage would cost me as much as the kit no doubt :(

      You can optimize it by buying 13 kits, then shipping is only 1.54 USD per kit 😎

    Would the preamp also work with an astatic microphone, maybe?

    I presume the polarity & orientation of the piezo discs matter more when using two discs? If so, is it possible to get further noise cancelling by reversing the polarity AND orientation of one disc with respect to the other? Thanks.

      (By orientation, I mean whether the back or the crystal-coated side is against the sound source.)

    You suggested shielding the piezo and demonstrated the same in the video. I could not see clearly if you wrapped the entire piezo disc in foil and that begs the question: If the disc is wrapped in foil, how does one attach the disc to the instrument?

      Hi. He used double-sided tape (like carpet tape) which needs to cover the entire disc so it can't make contact with the foil that you then cover it with. I use shielded cable with two wires for +/- and a shielding wire, which connects to the tin foil by lying it across the double-sided tape before putting the tin foil over it (so it makes contact) ...or you can connect the shielding wire to a metal tie wrapped around the tin foil. You can then coat the tin foil with something like a plastic sticker, depending on how robust you need it to be. You use the back (all metal) side against the instrument, with as little blu-tac as will keep it in place. The wired front can be protected with something like felt pad protectors for table legs. The shielding wire then needs to connect to the metal enclosure along with the ground wire from the circuit board.

      I built a sustainer circuit similar to an ebow or sustaniac, it drives the string with electromagnetism. At some point I'm going to make a video about it!

      @@metalmarshmallowllcI watched the video this afternoon, excellent, I have a cymbala, metal strings, I have a strat p.up on a rail to move over different strings, I'm inspired to look into sutainers, or even a 1w driver/ lm386 combo, to generate feedback, it'll create a noise for sure, how useable? Is a bad noise even a thing?

      @@metalmarshmallowllcI can't seem to find the video on the sustainiac type system... Did it end up going up?

    Love it! What gain resistor did you end up using?

    • @metalmarshmallowllc
      @metalmarshmallowllc  8 місяців тому

      I used a 50k potentiometer so I can adjust the gain. It comes in the kit!
