- The intro for the third installment of the Monkey Island series, The Curse of Monkey Island (1997).
Recorded using Dxtory 2.0.114 and ScummVM Daily (build: Jan 15, 2013) using "OpenGL Normal" graphics mode. Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and finally exported using H.264 at 32,000 Kbps, 1920x1080. - Ігри
After all this years I still get goosebumps at 2:42. Perfection incarnate.
The Curse Of Monkey Island is The Beginning And The Ending Of The Curse Of Monkey Island Franchise, because Guybrush Threepwood destroyed Lucas Arts Villain LeChuck, and Guybrush Threepwood married Elaine.

I can't argue but for me the original was the best because it was the first one I played. I remember playing it in 1991 and we had JUST purchased a soundcard for our 486 DX33. Blown away after using the PC speaker for so long. I remember the day this one came out, though. I finally got it on Christmas 1997. Along with a brand new Gateway 2000 233mhz. Easily one of the best days of my life. My brother and I solved it together. Something we used to do. He's long since stopped playing PC games but I never did. I'll be 40 in Feb 2023 for context. Reason I'm here is I just started playing the MI that was just released. Memory lane for sure. :)
Tales of Monkey Island was also surprisingly very good. A close second imo. They should have stuck to cartoon instead of graphics though. The Curse of Monkey Island has aged amazingly well because of this, its 24 years old and all it needs is an HD/resolution remaster.
Curse is the first one I tried, and I love it deeply! Every time I burn myself in the sun I think about the map! 🤣

That's the one flaw with point and click adventure games IMO, they do unfortunately get less fun each play-through.
I mean the writing and voice acting on this game are great, but it was SO memorable that I just can't enjoy playing it again.
To get the same effect in movies you have to watch them loads of times. I guess that shows the perfect example of passive vs interactive entertainment and how its more memorably if you are more invested in the material, such as actually impacting the result.
I'm playing the monkey island 1,monkey island 2, monkey island 3 now at 2014 AND I think the games are awesome, for me it's the best game of all time and it should be played alot more.

I was confused about the beginning when I played it as a kid, and it's because every time I played I would skip the credits at the start, and what I didn't realize was that also skips the opening cutscene that plays after the credits.
Best of the entire series. Magical.
And Monkey Island 2022 was announced today by LucasArts!

I'll never forget that day I first saw this opening.... 1999, the new millenium's antechamber. Rumors had it than an insidious error would soon would soon render all of the Computer Systems ever made into useless paperweights (Hah!!), which caused for an overabundance of cheap PC parts, which my dear Father used to assemble a PC of the most bleeding edge I had ever seen- 64 MBs of RAM, a CD-ROM drive and one of those newfangled Pentium 2 CPUs... And with it came this game; so BIG it had not one, but TWO CDs; "This has to be the best-est-EST game EVAR", and after seeing that Intro... I realized I was right...
And then came "Grim Fandango" ... clumsy controls but what a story,what a soundtrack,what a game... 💖

What im going to type now is the biggest understatement i ever made in my life: I LOVE THIS GAME, I ADORE THIS GAME.
I love the fact that the intro happens sometime after MI2. I wonder what happened there on that amusement park fling though, what with Guybrush and the detached bumper car?

I could see this becoming a live action tv series one day. Possibly produced by disney or amazon. The soundtrack is amazing

Playing return to monkey island makes me really miss the older ones. Wish they made games now as good as they use to be. Gona have to play the old games again soon.

@@MCArt25 Very different. Same genre sure. But the quality is far off. I played some point and click games in the last decade (Book of Unwritten Tales series, Yesterday, The Longest Journey series), and nothing comes close to Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle in quality. The 90s was the golden age for these games. Even The Longest Journey games got worse after its first game released in 1999. Book of Unwritten Tales series tries, but ends up being a cheap imitation of the Monkey Island series. Some of the jokes and even taken straight from Monkey Island and you can argue Nate is a Guybrush copy.

@@MCArt25 They make quick cash grabs that pretend to be adventure games. Games like the Monkey Island trilogy, the Broken Sword series or the Space Quest series were the top of adventure games. Everything made this or last decade was just trying too hard and delivering too little.

I didn't play this 3rd part, but Monkey Island 2 is by far the most dark/bizarre game of the saga for sure, Ron Gilbert knows his shit in storry telling, no doubt his Monkey Island 3a would beat this one.

I'm starting to think they got some of Disney's Aladdin facial animations as inspiration for Guybrush. Sometimes he moves very similar to Aladdin.
