This is the last encore of Keith Jarrett's solo piano concert in Tokyo in 2002. The left and right channels are separated into original recording and transcription.

I listen to Keith since I was a teenager, now I'm 55. Nothing else in music touched me deeper than Keith Jarrett's music. I often read and hear how his playing inspirated people and created love for music. This is a big thing which influences the whole life of people.
In my youth I didn't think that a score could represent Keith's music and I still think that's true. But I am looking for the transcriptions to understand more of his genius work and I still enjoy the magic of the phenomenal interpretation.
Of course, his music cannot be fully expressed through transcription. But if this can help others understand his music, I'm happy with it. Thanks for sharing your story!

3:14 that E melody on the Gm is nice too. Minor 11 to minor 13 over that chromatic descending chord change is nice

Amazing accurate transcription! May I ask how were you able to sync the notation tempo to fit so accurate with Keith free tempo (metronomless)?
Thanks! While listening to his performance, I recorded my transcription at the same time, and then compared it to the original recording in Logic Pro and synchronized the details.

This is great - fantastic!! Do you have perfect pitch or use a program like Melodyne. If possible could you do more Keith Jarret transcriptions ? (Like from Still Live and Tribute or even solo concerts. Perhaps you have done some all ready?
Thank you. I've never used Melodyne, so I don't know how accurately that kind of program can analyze complex jazz voicings. I have perfect pitch, but it took me a very long time to transcribe Keith Jarrett's music as accurately as possible. Of course I plan to do his other transcriptions later.
Melodyne can help those of us without perfect pitch - to some degree - but it will not be perfect like what you have done. Thanks for the good work. There should be made a book on “voicings and chords” of Keith Jarrett - perhaps you can contact Keith himself -even giving out a note book of 10 or 20 transcriptions with the blessing of Keith and his thoughts analytically of his play would sell - perhaps with the comments of a jazz music theorist

We are taught from an early age that the major 3rd and perfect 4th are a no no together but this sound is great imo even if you don't resolve it lol

I just guess he intentionally played B natural instead of Bb. Although that is harmonically wrong as we know, B adds more tension and sounds better to me. But only he knows the truth. Haha

Why does it sound like there is a midi recording playing over the original?
As stated in the description, the left channel is the original recording and the right channel is a MIDI recording of this transcription. So you're right.

It may feel that way to someone, as it was made for comparison between the original recording and transcription. Most of the transcriptions I uploaded were made in the same way.
Yes his playing on ballads is beautiful. I don’t like his uptempo playing and his blues interpretations, however. You did a great job on this transcription. But take a look at the sheet music melody for this tune. It’s what the composer intended. Jarrett veers from the written melody at some crucial points and his new melody is frankly not as good as the composer’s. In addition Jarrett misses out on some difficult and more interesting harmonic possibilities. I suggest listening to Art Tatum’s version of this tune in A major no less.
