Loved the idea of doing back and front togther, but would have preferred the fabric arranging to be done on the big empty table behind, as it was very confusing to work out how the pieces all went together, as I couldn't see properly behind the serger?
For those who are confused, the order of the layers of fabric are as follows: 1.) batting strip 2.) backing strip, right side facing UP 3.) previous serged quilt sandwich, backing side facing DOWN 4.) front strip, right side facing DOWN
I would love to see you put the first sandwich up where I could see it. I can't get the first one correct. I understand the the rest and it has been 2 or 3 years since I made this quilt. Thank you.
Isn't this like the " Kaye Woods" 6 hour Serger quilt? She has a booklet explaining this method. It has variations, material calculations, and different sizes. I think it came out in the 80's
Hi Sara! Love this method of quilting, especially for the beginner quilter. Would have been easier to understand if you were to move away from the front of the machine.
Good morning, Sara. Your guilts are beautiful and thank you for the tutorial. But because you were infront of the machine, at the beginning of the demonstration, it was kind of difficult to see how you placed all the pieces together.
On your machine, use 4 threads or for a 3-thread just use the left needle, set the width to "M" and skim off just barely a hair of fabric. ua-cam.com/video/-FkvKATG-4k/v-deo.html
I am 18 months late from when this video was made but I want to do this. I have no idea how to begin this project. I have watched the video 4 times and still I don't understand how she started the project. There are quite a few comments here but no answer to this question. Any one know how to begin the project? Or know of another video showing how? I'm a pretty new quilter but I love this idea. Thank you.
@@gwenclark9112 I personally will not subscribe to a UA-cam channel where the creator doesn’t even bother reading or commenting how pathetic. I will check out the recommendation that you provided
I just finished Kay woods video. Really good, informative, gave some good surger and regular sewing machine hints. Another one I liked is lori hernandez jelly roll one.
Hi Sara! Have had a serger for years, and never use it. Now you have inspired me to do so. I understand how you get a 1/4” seam on a serger, but how do you control how much fabric is actually cut off? From what you are saying, moving the blade back and forth controls only the size of the seam (or overlock stitch). What controls the amount being cut off with the blade?
Patricia Milovina ... By how you position the fabric as it feeds towards the blade/needle. You could try lowering the knife (not using it), if you want to avoid the “how much to cut off?” question altogether. Don’t know if all sergers have that option but mine (not a high-end model!) does.
Will definitely try this. Sara. 😊. I have that serger but don’t recognize the little “gizmo” that you have attached to the bed of the machine that appears to clip on somehow. Could you tell me what it is? Thanks.
You must be joking if you think the camera angles were satisfactory. Have you read the rest of the comments? This was a really bad job in regards to camera angles.
The only way this person is going to realize that they did a really bad job filming this is you’re going to have to hit the dislike button because obviously she doesn’t bother to answer anybody’s questions or comments
@@schisandra as in “So what.” If you want to see UA-cam channels that have the correct camera angles then I highly recommend The Crafty Gemini (especially her Wednesday work in progress videos), Sew Yeah Quilting and Jordon Fabrics and Shabby Fabrics. @@dcwatashi What’s so awful about this video? She’s not doing anything special - just sewing a regular serger seam. Close-up camera views of that aren’t needed.

Neat idea...but I don't understand how it is constructed as the camera was in front of you instead of above you...could you do a 2.0? Thanks!

Just found your video . I have a serger but I have never used it so I will be watching for information
I’m new to using a serger. Good video and inspiring to start jumping in and using my machine. Great job. Thank you.
BRILLIANT!!!!! I am researching whether I need a serger or not.... ummmmm, I think I do!!!! lol
I also use my serger for serging the counted cross stitch fabric edges; to decrease fraying while being stitched!
Wow thanks Sara. You look this idea
Thank you!

She was taping herself on another device by the machine
What stitch length did you have your serger set to?
you are a good teacher. The recording is very poor quality. could barely see the quilt.
Sounds great but I can't see what she is doing when she is putting the fabric together.
I know what a joke eh?
It would be much better if you used a table so we could see exactly what you are doing. Talking about it is way different than showing the example.
Hello, do you make top stich with sewing machine once you finish from adding pieces? (Mean like usual sewing patchwork)
Why not make 3 of these then put those together. Seems like that would be even faster. 🤔
Such a fun fast way for quilting. I have an Ovation. What would be the settings for 1/4” on it? Thank you for tips.

Hi Pam, Look at Kaye Wood's 6 Hour Quilt Technique. It will give you a pretty good Idea.

Thank you for your input! My blade does lower. I just thought there was some mechanism that controlled the amount being cut off.

Are we sewing thru 6 layers?
Hi Sara, do you use cotton fabric or any fabric can be used, ? New to serger .
Nice! I thought the camera angles worked well, too. 😊
You must be joking if you think the camera angles were satisfactory. Have you read the rest of the comments? This was a really bad job in regards to camera angles.
@@dcwatashi I don’t need to read other comments to form my own opinion. She’s just serging a seam, nothing fancy. The camera angles were fine.
Can't really see what you're doing very well as the camera is focused more on you and not on the area where you're showing the strips.
Seems a little narcissistic, like she wants us to see her more than the quilt she is constructing.
Can you use a walking foot with a serger?
Since a serger has a differential feed system there would be no need for a walking foot.
What Babylock Serger do you have?
Info is in the Description.
your machine is in front of camera and i can not see anything, waste of time for watching
Can’t see anything
Couldn't see the quilt, so it made it hard to see what you were talking about 😕
Confusing because camera is on you and not what you are doing.
I love your videos but this one was difficult cult to see what you were doing.
Would rather see the work being done than you in the center talking about it.
