I'm wondering if the "original road leading to the river crossing" was a Roman road originally, even if it continued use through Saxon times, which could account for the Roman pottery and odd coins found. Perhaps there was even a pre-Roman occupation at that site. Just arm chair hypothesizing from 4000 miles away.

As someone who absolutely loves all history I would’ve LOVED to have grown up in a country where it’s so common! Especially since the medieval & Tudor periods in history are my favorite outside of the ancient Celtic. And so much of the medieval and later history is not only still visible in Europe today but even still used! I truly hope I’m able to visit many places in Britain, Ireland & several other European countries. And if I was to ever get rich I would buy as old of a historic European home & as much land as possible! And you can bet I would be doing my own digs to find artifacts!😂 In comparison US history just didn’t produce the types of long lasting structures, earth works, etc found in so many other parts of the world. Especially not down here in the south eastern US. Even the Native American burial mounds in this area aren’t “mounds” like the burial mounds in Britain. Most are only discovered *after* a lot of finds are discovered accidentally or during earthwork of some kind.
I really don’t appreciate that Timeline has added these History Hits advertisements with Dan to all their videos and I am considering canceling my subscription since I pay extra for Premium UA-cam to avoid ads. I am not interested in Dan’s new channel and I consider his ads a waster of my time and am offended that they have gotten around the removal of ads to Premium subscribers by adding ads at the beginning of every video. Sure, I can and do fast-forward past Dan, but I don’t appreciate it and therefore every video, regardless of quality of content, will get a thumbs down from now on.
