the main man himself teaching one-on-one. thankyou sir, i thought this channel had 269K subscribers, and it would've completely made sense because of the amount of learnings we are getting.
Thank you so much, Muraleedharan sir. I have watched this movie many times, but I never realized how much work as a cinematographer went into it. Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to more videos like this!
The first time I watched this movie was when I was in 8th grade. Little did i know that this film would predict exactly how my life would pan out. I was young, dumb and completely oblivious to the challenges life had to offer. I felt like i fish out of water while studying and the worst thing that happened to me was that the curiosity and the excitement I had for life had almost completely disappeared. Somehow to fight my anxiety and depression i picked up my phone and decided to teach myself photography online. It was during my final year of engineering school when i realised I wanted to be a photographer, a filmmaker, a storyteller. My Life has completely changed since then, I've learned to see the beauty of life again and sometimes i would joke around my friends saying I want to become the real- life Farhan and help others find their true passion. This movie is truly a gift from above and I will forever be grateful to the people who made this story come to Life. Truly a life changing masterpiece
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Mr. Muraleedharan. I'm from Brazil, and years ago, while studying animation, I watched 3 Idiots for the first time. It was one of the key moments that inspired me to pursue a career in filmmaking. Now, at 29 years old, as I complete my film directing specialization, I’ll be working as the director of photography on our thesis film. Your work has had a meaningful influence on my path, and I truly appreciate the impact it has had on me. Watching 3 Idiots made me fall in love with Indian cinema and pushed me to explore the works of Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, and Mani Ratnam.
Always wondered how this was made. The rain had so much presence in the screen and it was not only beautiful, but also engaging and felt real! Masterful work sir! Huge respect ❤
Loved the layering of light play intermingled with the emotional outlook of the climax. You have thoroughly explained the logistical challenges faced in cinematography to execute a sequence of this intricacy. Looking forward to more episodes like these.
Wow, this is fantastic! Finally, we have a channel where cinematography is explained by a master. I'm excited about the upcoming videos! 😍 Thank you, sir!
I've always been fascinated by films of Rajkumar Hirani. The scenes and way in which they are shot makes the story so compelling. Thanks for this informative breakdown, it made me realise how the little things subconsciously influence us!!!
Growing up, 3 idiots was such a big movie in Nigeria, I've watched this movie more than a hundred times over the last 15 years, It is one of my go to films when I need inspiration, feeling lost or feeling down. It's a form of catharsis for me, I even let myself cry watching it despite knowing everything and lots of dialogue in the movie. I am now a film editor and make my own films and videos also. Your lesson is making me go back to this film as a filmmaking inspiration for my coming film next month. Thank you so much for this lesson. I've taken notes and can't wait to get back to making my own stuffs. God bless you and wish you all the best boss.
Wow never went through my head that the rain was a personification of a villain. Truly masterpiece how the lights were used to show the phases of life from being hopeless to hopeful.
Please Make it more video like this, we have a less indian film video out there and learning directly from DOP it's a blessing. So much i learn from the single video and i'm not a cinematographer but a writer. learned a lot, thank you sir so much love.
WOW... what a way to make describe the efforts put in to every frame... lighting is in fact a very important factor in these scenes and you have really created and crafted out the best shots through immense efforts. The film surely deserved all the appreciation of the audience. Congratulations CK & TEAM for an extraordinary presentation. 👌👏👏👏
What a fascinating way to explain what goes on behind the scenes and the thinking behind each action. Nothing is left to change and everything is so meticulously planned and executed. Thank you for such insightful video.. watching a movie we never realize how things come together. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
As a cinematographer, I've worked on films in Malayalam and Telugu, as well as commercials. During my studies, I was excited to watch '3 Idiots' and admired its photography, which was great and fitting for the story. My friends and I discussed the film extensively. Your work, sir, inspired me and I admire your creative vision.😇🙌
Thanks for sharing the process, the water flooding was a real mystery (i used to think how did they fill up the whole campus 😅) plus shooting low light on film is already a challenge This is great stuff 🔥
Wow ! One can seldom imagine what all human and technical efforts go for creating such wonderful scenes..... Unless offcourse when it is explained like you have done Murali ji ! Kudos to you and your team ! 👍🏻😊👏👏👏
Thank you so much for this. It is not only an inspiration but an insight to how to maneuver in the industry. It's all about justifying and communicating your idea, more than the technical aspect per say.
Very good episode Murali, lots of information about what goes behind the scenes which the audience will never come to know, or can never understand/imagine. To create “reality” out of “fakes” is something that needs lots of hard core thinking and teamwork; because at the end the audience can only relate to reality. Amazing work!👏👏
This film made me a dreamer and completely changed my life like no other. Thank you so much for such a masterpiece and thank you so much for sharing this gold. I am learning to be a better cinematographer than I was yesterday Nd this video has taught me so much more than any other video.
Thank you so much for sharing the insights and challenges your team faced during the shoot of '3 Idiots'. Your wealth of knowledge and experience can be incredibly valuable for aspiring filmmakers like us .
Just loved it sir... I still remember one of those nights when you had interacted with us in a Club house conversation for hours which actually went past midnight... the way you put your thoughts into words are just splendid... Looking forward for more of such contents... really informative
Sir, this has to be the best video in the internet! Please never stop making these videos, such an amazing insight to your work! Thank you so much for the breakdown!
WOW. Murli Sir... Thanks a tonne for literally 'dissecting' the scene from a DOP/Cinematographer's point of view and how much thought process and mind work that goes into getting that 'ONE' visual right that tells the story exactly the way a directors wishes for maximum impact. Extremely educative and interesting for students of film and audiences alike. Maza aa gaya, Going and watching 'Three Idiots' today again and celebrating Cinema. Looking forward to many more insights from You on various works that you have done. Thanks for putting up this show. Cheers and good day Sir. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much for Sharing your thoughts ,your expereince and your precious learning .Loads of Gratitude for opening up a small window of learning cinema from stalwarts like yourself. Regards
Absolutely unbelievable. Thank you so much Sir for your valuable time and guidance. I feel like a criminal for getting access to such knowledge for free. Extremely grateful, Sir 🙏🏻
I know it's a obvious fact but see how much teamwork goes into making a film. Different elements coming together to create magic. And slowly we are moving away from the star actor obsession and people behind the camera should be appreciated more
Sir you are absolutely brilliant 🙏🙏🙏 many things to learn from you please keep us educating... Please make a video on Relationship between Director and DOP.
its great to see you mentioned about your crew specifically... which i believe, u respects them too.. which is not the case for what i have seen on most films i have worked on south, with money and behave. for ten years worked as assistant cinematographer, i remember the maximum amount i received as assistant for full movie is 10,000rs/movie. and if somebody point it out, then that person is a blacklisted.🤷♂️
Good crew is the backbone of good work. It’s sad that they are not respected in some productions. We need to change it and bring more professionalism in the industry.
Lovely breakdown sir. I had a few questions about the last sunrising shot. You mentioned you used multiple lights separated by each other right which fixtures were they? Did you mix day light and tungsten? and did you add any skylight/ambience fill to that scene? And how did you get the light brightening effect in the shot? Please shed some light one this sir if possible. Thank you!
Hi, 5K tungsten Solar All tungsten. No day light Many other lights for ambience and other effects like contrast change, water reflection etc. Many dimmers connected to different lights operated by different people.
Sir, I think you should re-title this to "'3 Idiots' Cinematographer Explains How the Climax was Filmed" so it reaches a wider audience. Apologies if I got the technical term wrong (as in, if you were technically the DoP).
