My Grandfather was the builder of this engine! I polished the bell and the brass, it was the only thing beside emptying the fire box was all I was allowed! Looks Great!! Fred Paul

@@scorpion-yt7ih Yes, but it also was sold. it was on a pickup truck frame boiler & firebox was rear mounted! It was later scraped, boiler went bad!
That's all they built. This PC&O steam engine was run at one of the Purdue Football Games, they took my dad's plans and made the small one they use now!

The really cool part is that there is no clutch. Those pistons are directly coupled to the wheels. Admit steam, vehicle moves. Try that with a gas or diesel engine.
Another neat thing is the walschaerts valve gear that can control the valve timing at the cylinders for power or economy or just throw it into reverse as a power brake.

Its Stephenson's valve gear but your point still stands steam is a truly wonderful thing!

Steam engines are also capable of generating significantly greater amounts of torque than diesel or gasoline engines can, as well as operate at very low rpms, and even run in reverse.

I think a fast road diesel locomotive is something good to invent even if it is 6X6.

Sabia que é possível, principalmente neste caso, em que o peso bruto, foi viável de ser instalado em truques/eixos para rodas pneumáticas utilizáveis em piso carroçável existente em diversos lugares.
Meu prazer é ver este resultado final, ma-ra-vi-lho-so.

Doesn't look safe as far as the boiler being held too rigid and being moved around like that. Sometimes prototypes fail and lessons get learned. Looks like there's flexing going on where it shouldn't be. Very ingenious. Great idea but be very careful.
