- While it's a discussion that really isn't talked about much, I still think it would be an interesting discussion about who is a harder secret boss.
Would it be Jevil, a chaotic jester or Spamton NEO, a greasy salesman who borrowed someone else's body?

It got turned into a feature. Now, if you spam, Spamton gets mad and uses his phone-hands attack way earlier. The harder versions of it too.

Difficult level of deltarune:

The amount of deaths I've seen to the teacups is terrifying

In my first run of Chapter 2, I died once to the teacups and proceeded to not die at all to Spamton. People really aren't kidding when they say the teacups are harder.
Dude. I died AT LEAST 50 times to the DAMN TEA CUPS when playing on computer, then my computer broke before I decided to fight spamton. I downloaded it on the switch and i was ready to suffer to the teacups again. Took me less time though thankfully, only like 6 times? Then proceeded to fight spamton ready to suffer….and then won on the third try. With a drifting controller btw, just flexing /j

Keeping Kris alive during Jevil is only half of that specific issue; you also NEED Ralsei alive to cast the Pacifying spell. Get to that last turn where Jevil is tired, with Kris and Susie at low health and Ralsei still fallen down? TOO BAD, better survive the next attack!!!

Yes, I saw a video of a guy who couldn't win a Spamton on a snowgrave for more than four hours (according to him). But when i started playing, i win he on third ( or two , I don't remember ) attempt :D

It's mostly the same attacks as the normal route, just that only 1 person is there.
I never actually fought normal Spamton NEO, just the Snowgrave one. It took me about 45 minutes to beat him, where as Jevil took 3 hours over 2 days. I don't even know how much easier/harder the normal fight is.
Snowgrave technically makes Jevil look harder, because you need to do something to fight Jevil, while you can just fight Spamton in Snowgrave, without going to the lair.

I beat spamton 2nd try and I died over 100 times to beat jevil the first time and I only died to spamton once cause I got cocky and tried to use no more items due to how easy he was at first

One more thing: Though Jevil's stats are lower than Spamton's, your party memebers are also lvl1 in Jevil's fight, while in Spamtons you're level 2 or 3 depending on how many enemies you lost. You can also use Devilsknife/Jevilstail on Spamton's fight.

On the subject of armor, in Chapter 2 armor usually gives you +2 defense if you don’t use the items tailored to make the fight easier while in Chapter 1 your most reliable armor is the amber card because there is only three armors in chapter 1 that give +2 defense.
plus in chapter 2, staking magic stats for Ralsei/Susie is a lot easier, so you could be going into the fight with Ralsei healing about 75 health per turn plus everyone has more HP and Defense possibilities. If I remember correctly, most of the time against Jevil, Ralsei would die after about 2 hits and everyone else after 3, so Jevil also has that going for him I guess.

i have a dedicated save file to fight snowgrave spamton and jevil over and over again and i can say that jevil is harder then spamton no contest
Yeah I could immediately tell after the spamton neo fight jevil was considerably harder.
Yep I can't count how many times I've died to jevil until I finally beat him but it took me about 2 weeks (well it looks like it's too much but I only played after I got back at my home since I spend most of my day outside so I'd say ~80 attemps), spamton NEO took me just 4, and in snowgrave 10
They're both easy with practice, sans is really easy once you get used to him,and yes im gonna brag that i beated him a second time in ten tries without a reaction,once you get used to a boss it becomes really easy
I too have dedicated files for jevil and both versions of spamton neo, though for some reason i decided to reset my snowgrave file
same, I still find myself losing to jevil from time to time but I can easily beat spamton neo.
You forgot to include the hellevator. Died to it over 230 times while in the basement. Easily makes spamton himself harder if you include that.

I have a save file on chapter 1 to keep fighting jevil whenever I want and in chapter 2 I have save files for right before normal and snowgrave spamton neo fights. After easily beating snowgrave spamton neo and still dying a few times to jevil, personally jevil is way harder than any spamton fight.
He’s more difficult for me because I’m so pattern based it’s not even funny. I’m only decent at pattern attacks. But I absolutely sucked at growing another set of eyes to keep track of Jevil’s attacks, but he was kinda fun anyway :)

Even with snowgrave spamton, you have a lot of bonnuses, but with jevil... ITS JUST A CHAOS CHAOS
Finally someone makes a video on the topic. I've done no-hit to both of them and I have to say that the randomnes of jevil is a real pain to deal with, while spamton is way more predictable, I still think that even snowgrave spamton is a little bit easier than jevil, but that's my opinion

FIRST TRY?! I never got passed him yet. He's the only boss other than Sans to make me start over my game.
As someone who has beat both of them first try, I have to say that when I replay these bosses, spamton has a 15% chance to kill me while jevil has a 55% chance to kill me

Ik I'm late, but, Personally I am of the opinion snowgrave NEO is harder than jevil due to the fact that you cannot obtain spagetti code nor any butler juices. They're the best healing items in the game and rouxls ( who has turned to stone ) blocks the door to the colour cafe. The best healing item you have is the cd bagels which heal 80 hp, and since you're gonna be healing a lot more since the fight is hard they'll run out quickly, due to that not being much of kris's max hp, considering they've gotten stronger. though, off topic, I REALLY like the designs of you in the sort of different costumes! You've got such a nice artstyle :D

the problem with snowgrave spamton is that now your hp is almost 3 times lower and he can kill you in like 3 or 4 hits, then you must always have full hp to make sure you won't die
tf do you mean by lower?. By the end of snowgrave you have 160 hp and by the end of pacifist you still have 120

and if youre trying to do the harder anticheat version (unlocked by spamming big shots via holding z and pressing enter, vice versa) he like drains 90% of your health in one hit
I would say that Jevil is harder IMO because in spamton you can see how close you are to winning, and plan accordingly.
According to my experiences, Jevil is harder since it took me 4 months to beat him, but 2 days to beat Spamton NEO.

Spamtons attacks come from only one direction and there are no obstacles to hinder your ability to position yourself to properly counter any attacks he throws at you. If anything, his fight is ludicrously easy. And that kind of hurts. This is spamton NEO shouldn’t it feel like an actual NEO fight?
Deep down, Spamton wants to be free, that's why it's easier, and it helps us beat it.
the hardest part about spamton snowgrave is that not only do you only have one team member to act every turn like you said, but you also dont have the collective health of your entire team, and you cant revive a fallen team member like in other fights because well you only have kris
the fight does become way easier once you learn the attack patterns, if ur good at regular spamton neo then you probably wont have that much of a problem with the fight, but like that can be said with any fight lmao

I have fought the secret bosses multiple times and I can say
Snowgrave Spamton > Jevil > Spamton Neo > Sans
1. Spantom snowgrave
2. Jevil genocide
3. Both on pacifist
One of my best gaming achievements was that I beat snowgrave spamton neo first time I played him. Took me 3 months for jevel.
Also, something I think you forgot to mention is the direction of the attacks in each fight. In Jevil's fight, he can attack you from all angles, where as with Spamton, a majority of his moves are coming from the same direction so you don't have to worry about being hit from behind. So I think this kinda helps support the idea that Spamton is easier.

Jevil can also swap the direction of the wheel of spades attack, which can actually catch someone off gaurd.

maybe Spamton's attacks are harder to dodge (Especially that fucking spider phone thing) but Jevil its capable of 3 tapping your entire team with Chaos Bomb so, just because of that I think Jevil is harder
Even if you can only fight with KRis in Snowgrave Spamton NEO i think its still easy, because Kris survives like 5 or 6 hits, but with Jevil if you get hit 3 times with Chaos Bomb you're out, and its not like its easy to dodge
How I know Jevil is harder than Spamton NEO (Except for Snowgrave):

Also, I think comparing Snowgrave Spamton NEO to Jevil is kinda unfair??? Like, just comparing the fights is fine, but if you were to pit them against each other Jevil wins with little difficulty. Most of the reason Snowgrave Spamton NEO is so hard is because you have so much less health due to your typical party members not being there, as well as not having the added bonus of your party members giving you the ability to do multiple things in the same turn.
If you still think Snowgrave Spamton NEO would win against Jevil, consider this: fighting Jevil with only Kris. Just let that sink on and be grateful Toby didn’t go that far 🙃

I honestly think Jevil's harder than both Sans and Spamton NEO. It's probably because I went into it blind, while I had a lot of background info on Sans, so i got really close to the end, while I can't make it past the halfway route in the Jevil fight.
I agree. Jevil is harder then sans, and spamton NEO. Jevil legit strikes BEAMS. also jevil literally HAS THESE ONE SHOT RED DEVIL KNIVES THAT LITERALLY DROP DEADS RALSIE IN 2 TURNS. Jevil also legit SPAMS. There I'm done. Sorry for the shouting.

in jevils fight you also have worse healing items, like the most accessible healing item are darkburgers, who only restore 70 hp, so probably only ralsei would be fully healed on low hp.
at spamtons fight you can have butler juice, which restores 100 hp, which might even fully restore susie's hp, depending on the time you heal.
yes, i know about things like lancer cookies, the chocolate diamonds (?) and the sweet hearts (?) (forgot what they're called), but then you just need to hope you prepare with the right stuff, like are you gonna bring more sweet hearts to heal ralsei, who jevil really likes to target for some reason, or more chocolate diamonds to heal kris, the only member who can help progress if you want the (more useful imo) jevilstail?
do you bring the topcake who can fully restore the whole party, or wait for the other cake i forgot the name of to be useful in a different fight?
and are you willing to do the unspeakable and drop the manual for an extra healing item?
and im pretty sure before jevil you can only recieve like what, 2 revive mints? yeah, normal healing items can awake you from the death, but you'll probably have like 30 hp if you heal them that way, so is you want to fully revive a teammate from fainting, you'll either have to use the topcake, or use 2 healing items at once, sp you possibly have to pick your poison, then and there.
the amber card is also not very useful while still being one of the few armors, sometimes even dropping stats, while at spamton you can have like the video suggested multiple useful armors AND the jevilstail if you took that route.
i dont know much about weapons, but if we follow the pattern that has currently be laid down, i think its safe to say you're very limited in terms of the, if you want to fight jevil, where as the weapons usable against spamton has the sythe from jevil's fight along with many others.
the same logic somewhat applies to snowgrave spamton, only you have no sythe, coz only susie can have it and revive mint won't be of much use, considering kris being the only one present, but im not to sure about the snowgrave route (considering i've never done it), but from what i've heard, its the only fight that holds a candle to the sheer difficulty jevils fight provides.

that's the thing about the party member-specific healing items in chapter 1: there isn't one for ralsei. at all. theres the chocodiamond for kris and the hearts donut for susie

Also Jevil attacks the healer Ralsei most of the time
one more thing: Spamton littearly lets u spam big shot during his fight witch just makes it so freakink easy(yes, he does deal more damage, but COME ON! Herat attac, face attac and pipis attac can be littearly skipped! And phone attac and all the other attacs are just much much easier)

Ok something funny that happened to me is that it took me like 5 tries to beat spamton (both normal and snowgrave) and it took me 1 fucking try to beat jevil

Defeating Snowgrave NEO was faster for me after beating Spamton NEO. Kris has more defense and HP, and also has FriedPipis to restore HP. Jevil just has some crazy bullet patterns.

But you’re also fighting it with jevil armor/weapon so even if it get harder you have secret boss armor/weapon from the previous chapter
The thing was. That i suck at shooting pipis at spamton so to beat him in pacifist i needed 124 attempts(i counted it)

Having no teammates make the fight an entirely different fight than normal spamton neo. Also the bullets in general are the 2nd hardest in the whole game (behind Jevil) so the bullets are still really difficult.
Also I'd like to say that (I think so at least) Jevils final attack is scripted to never kill you
This makes the Snowgrave Spamton fight the hardest fight in the game so far
spamtons "final attack" is also not scripted to kill u, as it is also based on percentage damage, so say susie had 11 hp, it wouldnt kill susie if you were hit, but would deal maybe 4-5 points of damage. neat fact ⟟ learned some months ago
Spamton neo is easier then his normal version
I personally find Jevil still harder than Snowgrave Spamton NEO because it is subjectively easy to dodge familiar patterns even alone with all that Undertale experience. And you even get to heal yourself with Fried pipis, so there us no need in aggressively buying CD bagels beforehand! Whereas without Top cake, saving the team before the ultimate attack is challenging
Well I’d say spamton snowgrave route. Only reason why is because I’m so used to ralsei healing the team that now I actually gotta focus lol
It all depends. For me... It took me like 10+ tries to for Jevil. I shit you not, Spamton NEO took me... *1 TRY*. But I have extra saves made to rematch them anytime I am bored. On the 2nd save, I can do Jevil with ease, but Spamton is a lil harder for me

jevil is six times harder than the secret boss (which is what we are comparing) i feel like snowgrave spamton was much harder but we are talking about the regular secret bosses not the secret route thats only in chapter 2. after all if there was a jevil that you could only fight with kris it would be impossibly hard and i don't see how anyone could beat that. meanwhile i beat snow spam and as @daringslinger said It makes jevil easier and also it takes the whole team to pacify jevil using hypnosis spamton you can just cut wires or attack without any full team thing
Snowgrave spamton (personally) wqsnt even that hard. It might have taken like 7-13 tries but Jevil took me 2 days. The stats in chapter 1 are really unforgiving

It's kinda disappointing when the teacup ride before the big bad superboss is harder to deal with than the superboss himself. Then again, there's also the fact that enraged mode is a thing as well... That puts spamton way over jevil in difficulty, requiring you to basically not get hit what-so-ever, since each hit does almost your entire hp bar, and with the buffed attack speed and health for many of his moves, that is easier said than done. 'course, that's also an easter egg, and not something that the average player is going to find.
Also, I dunno why, but the TTS voice you used seems to fit the character you portray yourself as. I'll maybe keep an eye out for content you make. Hope to see you again!

......I second tried Spamton
......BUT SNOWGRAVE SPAMTON....
7-13 tries
NOW THE TEA CUP RIDE, THAT WAS *HELL*
I have some things to say about this.
1. If you're not doing the basement spamton, then good luck because snowgrave is gonna be a bit harder than the regular route AND spamton is slightly harder mainly because of the end
2. If you ARE doing the basement spamton, still good luck because (unlike me) everyone dies at the teacups at least 5 times
3. The final attack for spamton neo IS a copy of that [KROMER] attack from regular spamton + the moving up and down, but the [KROMER] part is buffed (and the original is already kinda hard), and the up and down part gives you such a small time frame (unless hitboxes are wacky as hell), whereas jevil's final attack is literally just move to a slot to dodge the knives which have a weird hitbox and then the rest is free.
4. With jevil, there are a lot of moves that have wacky hitboxes
4a1. Spiral of Spades
4a2. Carousel Attack
4a3. Carousel of Ducks
4a4+4a5. Both Devil's Knife moves
the first carousel attack is extrimlly easy if you know how to dodge it total no brainer, like this attack bullets first go down and after few sec they switch to going up and all you need to do is go to upper side of the box when that happens
also evil sciphy first attack is also very easy if you don't try to tp farm it
btw the spamton face bullets in his final attack actually have a smaller hitbox than you expect, you can just stand on the left middle of the box and be unharmed
To be fair, the free heal that spamton gives you is literally just for people with skill issue
I mean if u mean the boss fight, then Jevil is harder. I think it's cause Spamton NEO's boss fight has a SOUL mode. And he's kinda ez with the damage.
Jevil is indeed more difficult

So much to the point I decided to beat him as a minimalist (no armor, starter weapons, and no items) as a fun challenge to do every now and then
Spamton is like a nice challenge
Jevil is like being repeatedly kicked in the nuts
(I love both of their fights, but in a decently easy game, Jevil is giant difficultly spike)
Just beat jevil on pacifist, that was HELL
Jevil is soooooooo much harder than spamton as much as I love him he’s pretty weak. Even snowgrave Spamton is a bit lower level of hard than Jester Devil boi
jevil: has 3000-ish HP but 5 Defense, the highest defense in the game. only Kris can act. no boss items available. re-uses attacks but changes them slightly, and can change a lot of things during the battle you can act.
Spamton NEO: 4000-ish Hp but 0 defense, -23 on snowgrave. re-uses attacks, doesn't change, and is able to be affected by the ACT from any character. gives free turn.
With spamton your able see physically see your improvement no matter how good or bad you are. (At least with the pacifist route) while with jevil you have no clue how you are doing at any given moment and just have to hope by the time you get to the big attack that you have almost defeated him. (As someone who has a hard time keeping track of things) idk I just appreciate the percentage meter.
Jevil is hard the first time(tip advance and the chapter 1 almost end and get the Brave axe or the other thing in the shop for Ralsei)
Spamton is always easy i beat i'm the first time i fight him(tip learn to shoot:opcional)
Snowgrave spamton just attempt the max no be hit you are in all the fight alone is hard without susie's rude Buster or Ralsei heal
But the fight give that thing and better
X Slash is powerful just 25%TP for 480 dmg
Fried pipis gives You 120 heal the same than a light candy(tip get all tp You can and the other ítems me recomend get the mechasaber)
Probably doesn't matter. But I saw a dramatic difference in difficulty between the two.
For spamton, It took me six tries to beat him.
For Jevil on the other hand, it took roughly 30-40 tries just to beat him.
Jevil - Harder Fight
Spamton - Better Character
Snowgrave Spamton - Both At Same Time
Jevils attacks deal less damage but is more chaotic and frequent but Spamton has more orderly attacks that deal less damage
Spanton didn’t give you the gun because if you see his reaction to you being able to shoot, he is surprise
I'm late but in difficulty:
Spamton > Jevil < Snowgrave Spamton
My stance on this is Jevil is harder straight up. The reasons mentioned here + 2 other things are why that is. Those other things are: character stats and healing Item Access. In chapter 1, the load out tends to be any revival crystals (can't remember what they're called), the club sandwich (30 to full party), and a bunch of Dark Burgers (70HP for 1). In Deltarune Chapter 2 you can get Butler Juice which heals 100HP, and CD Bagels which heal 80HP, and in both you could have some sort of spin cake (heals party a lot). If you're like me and want the infinite access option available, you'll specifically have the weaker option. So on average, you'll have access to guaranteed more healing in Chapter 2. Add with that more max HP, and Magic if Ralsei is in the party and the length of Snowgrave NEO compared to Jevil...
I've managed to 1-hit Snowgrave NEO, but haven't even tried Jevil because that fight casually is harder then any other fight I've played in Undertale/Deltarune. Yes I'd say sans is harder just because I view red attacks as the hardest type of attack to dodge in high difficulty environments, and sans's blue attacks are the focus, which are difficult but way more manageable once you understand the attacks then Jevils barrage of attacks. I guess here's my difficulty tier list:
1st: Jevil
2nd: sans
4th: Spamton Neo Snowgrave
4th: Undyne the Undying
5th: Spamton Neo
(I think Snowgrave NEO and Undying Undyne are about the same so their tied for me)

My reason for why I think (snowgrave) Spamton NEO is harder: I can beat Jevil in one try *I cannot beat Spamton NEO in one try*
I died to jevil 1m times, but when i defeated him...i had power. Any other times i fought Jevil again, i always won. Even spamton NEO was easy for me. Until...HE showed up. That's right...Snowgrave NEO. my worst nightmare...
I feel the cooldown attack would be considered better than the free turn since the cooldown attack is enough to dodge that you can graze attacks easier so that you can save up more TP while the free attack makes it so you get no TP from it. Also the heal is something that most players may not realize that they can still use it as it is never shown in the dialog box when on your turn. You would have to think that it could be used. Also there is Spamton NEO when enraged which makes his attacks as hard as he can make them. Enraged Snowgrave Spamton NEO is the hardest Spamton battle and can only be battled by using a glitch that when Toby found out, he made it so Spamton gets mad instead of patching it out. The glitch/exploit makes it so you can spam charged shots.
maybe Jevil is harder and more chaotic BUT Spamton is more orginazed and cooler
Theres also another example of why Spamton is easier than Jevil: the face attack
Sure, the first time Spamton uses its hard to avoid, on the same level as Jevil's attacks
But once you break his eyes, nose, and mouth, its a free turn. Plus Spamton will keep trying to use it even if you broke it several turns ago
Jevil is without a doubt harder and is likely one of the hardest bosses I have ever fought in vidya. He is the only boss I counted tries on and it totaled up to 32 (I counted Spamtons tries for comparison, only about 7 or 8)
I think the difficulty of them varies. If you beat Jevil first, you might say Spamton is harder. If you beat Spamton first, you might say Jevil is harder.
Although, I am sad about it how boring the boss fight has become. With the overwhelming difficulty of the secret bosses, it makes the main storyline bosses dull. Yeah, Giga-Queen is cool but what's the point if you've already fought them over and over again? Then you get to the end of the game and wait until the next chapter comes out. Toby says Chapter 3 is already done and they are probably just doing bug fixes, but won't it just repeat? You beat the game, then what?
One thing that has kept me somewhat interested with chapter 2 is how it mentions if you backtrack from queens mansion to the very beginning of the chapter. I kinda chuckled at the message. "You are filled with the power of useless backtracking." I also like how Kris asks the Addisons about Spamton if you go back to CyberCity when getting the Keygen (I think)

I think jevil is easier then snowgrave spamton, but harder then regular spamton
Basically snowgrave>jevil>spamton
I only beaten snowgrave 3 times while I have beaten jevil 10 times in a row without dying once
Spamton isn't HARDER, but he is stronger.
Spamton is fighting you at LVL 2, giving you a free turn, and overall just being goofy.
But he still beats your ass, doesn't he?
Spamton isn't a harder fight, but he is stronger than Jevil.
Jevil loses to you at Level 1, with all of his advantages. Spamton is at a MASSIVE disadvantage, no matter how he looks.
