This is when there was truly, wonderful, authentic entertainment still on television. And this show actually aired on Monday night, November 25th, just three days after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. It had been taped before the assassination occurred. It was the first night the networks had gone back to normal programming. I can only imagine how poignant and meaningful this performance would have been to the millions of Americans watching that night. I know I would have been crying. Andy was truly an American icon.
The soft blue tones seem to glow... It's the perfect set for Mr. Williams. He radiates with all that is good in this world. Thank you very much for sharing this sharp clear quality video. I remember watching this performance in b&w when I was a little girl. I loved it when he read from the book! If I had seen this in color, tears would have been running down my cheeks! You girls are so talented and adorable and so blessed to have sung with the Best!
How poignant that this episode of "The Andy Williams Show" aired just four days following the assassination of President Kennedy, although it had been taped at least a couple of weeks earlier. This was a beautiful rendition. I especially love the version of "America the Beautiful" that he did outdoors in Vermont on his 1982 Christmas special.

Andy is/was the BEST. He could sing most anything and do it well. What a beautiful rendition of this patriotic melody.
We need this song and God’s grace to bless America through these terrible times
