Secret for the Mad ..........................................................Dorothy Clark
    arr. George Chung
Secret for the Mad was written by British songwriter Dodie, and was
included in her 2017 EP “You”. Of the song, Dodie says, “I wrote it
for a friend who I learned was going through a tough time. Today,
though, I sang it for myself”. The song is about struggling with anxiety
or depression, and how sometimes just everyday “stereotypical”
things can help you get through to the next day. In the song, Dodie
reassures listeners that soon “there will be a day when you say you’re
    ok and mean it.”
This song gave us an opportunity to courageously share what we
sometimes carry and struggle with but that not everyone can see. We
call it our invisible backpack. Each person wrote about something
that has been weighing heavily on them. Then, on the back of the paper,
each singer shared something that lifts them up and brings them
joy and hope. Each student is holding someone else’s self-reflection
in order to show anonymity. We hope this song resonates with you
and shows how truly connected we all are to one another.
