I used to play racket ball and workout at the Audie Murphy gym on Ft Benning Ga. In the infantry museum on Ft Benning they have a Colt pistol that James Cagney had specially made for Audie. He was a great Man.

He was just a teenage boy of 17, when he went into the army, and was only 5' 5", but when he came out he was 5'7", that is according to his army release papers, which you can see at the AudieMurphy website and on his driver's license when he was killed in that plane crash, it said he was 5'10" which you can also see at his website and had been issued less than a year before. I read a story where this man went to meet him and was really shocked at how tall he was and Audie just laughed and said some people still think I was the height I was when I went into the service, but I just kept growing. So he was much taller than people thought he was.
