Keshiki bonsai is a revolutionary approach that involves creating living pieces of art using readily available plants and containers.
Previously, the techniques, tips, and insights of keshiki bonsai were available only to Japanese enthusiasts. Now, for the first time, Western readers can join in creating these miniature masterpieces. Learn how a garden, a forest, or even a stream can come to life within the bounds of a small container.

Leave it to the modern mind to instantly throw together a bonsai "gift for a friend" with out the messy time and philosophy of the old fashion bonsai techniques and practice. Looks cute. Her friend will probably kill it within a month, but it's ephemerally lovely. I tend to swerve away from something labeled "trendy". Look, throwing potting soil, a small plant, sand and a few rocks into a shallow container won't create a proper environment for a tree to live. Cute, but flawed.
