While I completely agree, I gotta say that Larnell Lewis is for me the only drummer right now that I would put on the same level as Benny. Something tells me a drum duet/battle between those two would be the greatest ever.

I just recently started watching his videos and yes, he is very creative.
Benny needs a signature floor tom.
Ad unlucky for us it's all in the tuning, he and his drumtec tune like Gods.
Benny expalined the floor tom sound: Use coated heads on both side, ambassador on reso, emperor on batter (with a moon gel), put a little hand full of cotten inside (acts like a natural gate) and tune very low... done!
Bass Drums shouldn't sound that good.... wait..... *Floor Toms* shouldn't sound that good.

I love Benny Greb's combination of progressive and groovy/funky style. His rhythms remind me a lot of Animals as Leaders without being so much metal.
He's less ostinato than Gartska.
Benny takes the time-shredding innovations of Morello and Bruford to a new level. Not "how many notes," but where they happen. Like being suspended in some Einsteinian vortex…

Chris Neff Drums sounds right on point but I'd simplify it to 5/4 4/4 5/4 9/8 5/4 7/8 3/4, makes it easier to think about for me
For sure, but to initially figure it out, I think you need to feel the 8ths, and can graduate to the 4 pulse once you've got it.

Good comment @carsondrum. Also, Chris said 6/8, which is not correct when you think about it. 6/8 refers to triplet subdivision, which is counted/felt like: 1-two-three, 2-two-three. Benny played a sixteenth note subdivision, so 3/4 is a correct way to put it. ( or 12/16, but it's not broken up, like Garstka does it, so 3/4 is legit)
Not correct? This is a perfectly good description of what is going on. Arguing meters is like arguing semantics. Meters can be binary or ternary. Ternary 6/8 is what you're talking about. This phrase is binary for the most part, and the 8th note is the felt beat, hence the 8 on the bottom. You can reduce it to /4 if you like, but it makes it more confusing, as it would be 5/4, 4/4, 5/4, 9/8, 5/4, 7/8, and 3/4. Mixing in the /4 with the /8s is honestly more confusing, while also not incorrect. If someone looks at my comment while trying to count along, this is the easiest way to follow, and learn the groove. Graduate to however you'd like to count it, but I don't believe I am "not correct".

Much love for Benny and his creativity and superb chops. Sometimes I just wish he'd dial down the stacked cymbals and play a somewhat normal kit. Too many mini-hats, and most people wouldn't know the difference between those and regular hihats.
That being said, I gotta get me some Grebfruit 2!
