  • This Mod Will SAVE your Stihl MS500i... The MAXFLOW AIR FILTER KIT!
Stock filter on these saws is the one downside with them, its no good. But with a little investment in the MaxFlow kit your saw will really thank you for years to come.

As a ex motocross ride dealing with that type of oil filter for years is put the filter in a freezer bag with the oil on it. Then squeeze the filter to get out the excess oil. The filters we used had different layers. We would do three ready to use air filters for each bike.

I put a second oem o-ring over the already existing one. Seems to give lots of cushion on vibration this way, better than a flat o-ring under it which I also tried. So far I am very pleased by the results, zero fines passing through. I use the stock HD2 air filter.

500i is a serious work horse, but requires clean air. The saw is gas thirty as hell and that certainly gets amped up as the air cleaner vaccums up dust as the day wears on. Its hard to maintain a clean standard filter during the day, because they require a smear of grease on the O ring on the fiter I spend 7 hrs on this saw a day, thats about 6 fills / oil sharpen, diss drink, smoke, and rip back in. Have put 500 lires through this saw. Only problems is The dog bolts kept coming loose, first blue locklite, then red. Now I went 406 it's permenant.

Definitely worth every penny shame on Stihl for designing a $1500 saw with a filter that eats more dirt than a night crawler 😂

This soaking in oil wouldn't make it more difficult cleaning the filter afterwards?
It's a lot of cumbersome work one has to do for spending that much money buying a saw!
    Maybe I think twice before I buy a 500 I !

Really helpful tips. Thanks for sharing. You get lots of chainsaws and talk a lot about chainsaws, very informative. Are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies parts for small engines
and you get the knowledge on chainsaw maintenance and repair, maybe we would work together to help more people in the community.
