Anybody who's finished the Mentor roulette mount is very powerful...
Anyone who finishes 1 mentor roulette is godlike
@@MrChicharo90 titan extreme synced from mentor roulette....7 sprouts...all first timers. I somehow lead them to clear. i was so proud. then they made me laugh hsitarically by saying "fuck the mount" when i said there was one XD
@@DracoLord121 👏👏👏
Mentor Roulette betrayed me last time got shiva ex with 7 sprouts 😰
I have had Astrope for nearly two years and I still spam mentor roulette for fun. I love getting EX trials 😂 Yes, us crazies exist.
legit I'd love to hear about the history of certain duties
love you jocat
jojoCat love ya
Please do a Collab for next guide.
oh REAALLYYYY 👀
Me too! I would love a set of history videos on that topic ♡
Best advice I got from a mentor was "Ya so just kinda hit it till it dies". Mentors do make a difference guys.
i mean he's not necessarily wrong.
Kill it till it's dead - asmongold 2021
@@fartimusmaximus8710 My favorite quote is "the faster we kill it, the faster it dies, and the faster it dies, then it's dead." It's almost poetry!
It just depends on what your doing if it’s a low level raid that’s basically all you do
“Make sure all your attacks land, avoid all of the opponent’s attacks.”
"He thinks I know what I'm doing!"
- Larryzaur, a mentor.
To be fair.... Most mentors I run into are barely above sprout level I don't get it lol
Except they have top dps most of the time though. It’s true about mentors kinda skip mechanics and not knowing how to teach ppl. It’s why this is like meme sort of.
Also, mentor privilege for fast queue too so yea. Nothing about mentor here actually talk about crafting though. If you actually chat in the Novice Network, you know it right away.
1:19. Casting cure while the tank is at 80% HP, double casting it again when his HP is full, doing zero DPS. Wow Larry! This is peak mentor healing - curebotting and zdps!
l mean l used to play warcraft, and that's how to play healer in that game. So l like to spam cure on tank for the sake of nostalgia
I feel bad for the people who legitimately believe that the Crown means the player they're talking to knows what they're doing.
Sometimes it does, but that could apply to anyone.
I had a group of sprouts for King Mog Ex (synced). They gathered around me and sat down and one said, "Mentor me senpai." Took us 7 tries and a lot of googling (been so long couldn't remember the order for adds)
From then on I took off my crown for the roulette - wasn't expecting them to actually give a shit about it 😂
@@kyrothyus I'm pretty decent with mechanics of pretty much all fights, but I always take it off for sure when new content releases, because people somehow expect you to be a perfect master of a fight that released 20 minutes ago immediately 🤦♀️
I came back for Shadowbringers's release after 3.3 and I still have my crown. I haven't turned the crown back on since 5.0 because I still feel super lost 😅
@@sleepysera I mean you have the mentor crown on for a reason, right? People assume you're going to mentor. You realized that and took it off when you couldn't mentor that content, see no problem?
"He thinks I know what I'm doing!"

>gets Sephirot Ex

"Alright kids, so here's what we do..."
"Where are we again? I don't know where this is." Relatable

Tbf with or without mentor crown I have been getting hit trying to type an explanation before. Chat is dangerous
Mentorship in general: Sh!t, I'm expected to remember 8 year old content?! I can't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning.

"The voice actor of Pipin is Link."
I learned something new today.
Adult Link from OoT if you wanna be nerd about it.
Adult Link from OoT if you wanna be nerd about it.
Love the merlin pfp
Omg he really is a mentor lol
Also believe one of the voice choices for male Lalafell is young Link. When I do one of my attacks it sounds just like Young Link.
Oh no, he's achieved the ultimate glamour... Mentor!
Oh shit, It's Akabane101 PogU
Now I want an entire 1h video of Larry talking about the history of FFXIV encounters.
Doing tsukuyomi trial
Mentor Samurai: don’t stand next to the tank, she does cleaves that hurt
-*proceeds to stand next to me, the tank, for the entire fight and dies*
-*proceeds to backseat game the party while dead and not taking raise*
Solid report. Did that to a mch who got tb'd after the mt died and not only refused to take the raise but got pissy & trashtalked before logging in and out hoping we'd kick him. Failed to realize I refused to let us wipe so we never left combat. After he loot and scooted, so I reported him and got a response from a nice GM. :)
8:10 "the strategy was to sacrifice people, 'cuz the mechanic was too hard"
*heavy o12s flashbacks*
But goodbye world wasn't a strat on content afaik
oh btw, if you do goodbye world you're the mentor of mentors. same for ilya strat but doing uptime kb mirrors. Just don't
@@Motonari11 pretty sure doing Goodbye World while o12s was current would make you fail the DPS check. Especially because it happens twice, so that would require at least 14 deaths.
I wonder if the end of the TEA fight is a callback to goodbye world.
@@dragonslayer21218 pretty sure goodbye world became popular after 5.1
@@Motonari11 I ran O12S unsynced to help my friends get some loot a few weeks ago. I was SO confused when the raid leader told the DPS players "jump off now, guys", I still have no idea what happened in that strat.
I love the little tidbits of info added here. The arm of creator being super hard and how titan-egi would tank ramuh ex.
As a mentor I provide no information for stuff until we've at least wiped once. Some people appreciate going in blind and I don't want to ruin that for them. Also I try to give helpful advice after we complete whatever we're doing (Too many times have I been told it's their alt or I don't pay their sub T_T)
REEEEE "u dun pay mah sub, i can use blizzard3 as my main damage if I want".
I personally dislike how easy it is to "Qualify" for mentor status
Thank you! There’s nothing I hate more than loading into a dungeon, seeing the cutscene for the first time and then coming out to all the mechanics spoiled in chat... no wonder ppl can’t blind prog raids they never get any practice
it helps to ask if the person wants some friendly advice before you give it.
Thank you for waiting after to give advice, or just not in the middle of a fight. Even if they're keyboard shy, it means a lot.
The first time I ever had to give advice was the vault boss fight, as a monk of all things. Felt extremely uncomfortable at first, because I was waiting for someone to screech out that I wasn't a mentor, the tank, the healer, etc. Instead we wiped twice and I just asked if we needed to review the last fight. I was surprised how receptive everyone was.
I try to be forgiving when I play as a tank now, especially if someone is really trying and eventually stops running around to ask for help. Usually makes the healer and others mad at me for not pulling as much, but I'd rather not cowabunga on someone learning and actually paying attention.
Ye I had the same thing happen, im a sprout and we were doing Ifrit extreme and I told them the tacts and we wiped like 3 times cause of one healer who kept staying in melee and I told him to move away from people and people were raging at me and the healer said «u dunt pay my thub» so stupid. My first negative experience in FFXIV. Why do people even do extreme if they dont wanna learn the damn tacts, and to the healer who said you dont pay my sub, do you pay my sub? Do you pay everyones sub in the team whos time youre wasting?
When someone dies to a mechanic and larry lives
"Larry btw"
Yo, can I get more videos like this where you just kinda tell fun facts about and the history of bosses, raids and whatever else might be interesting?
I actually enjoyed that greatly, thank you.
it was my first dungeon first time tanking in ff14 and healer mentor literally told me " you won't die with me here" took the anxiety away the whole dungeon was a blast, I main tank won't change ever....EVER!
I'm not a mentor but I definitely told that to a new tank in Antitower. I was on my fifth run for memories and we got a first-timer. Nothing hits hard in that dungeon, so I told him to stretch his legs and see how far he could go, and I'd absolutely keep him off the floor. It worked! I wish someone had encouraged me that way when I was a sproglet tank.
"I popped Fight or Flight and there's nothing to hit" is a MOOD. Right up there with "The boss left right as I hit Requiescat"
oh, i feel that...
See also: boss leaves right as I hit Wildfire
Insert No Mercy as well
@@sonder006 lol I was helping out with a diamond ex learning party yesterday and right as the boss transitioned from p2 to 3 the WAR went "nooooo my Inner Release!!!" Honestly that boss's transitions seem perfectly timed to fuck with EVERYONE'S burst phase.
“Where the fuck am I?”
I love running Mentor Roulette because I get reminded of all the old content I haven’t played in years.
Me, every time I'm doing DPS as a healer: "The enemies cannot hurt you....if they are dead."
Larry is my Mentor.
"I need my party list to not be in Egypt."
Literally every time I swap to healer.
I was doing titan extreme a few days ago. We were all sprouts. We wiped a lot. Someone left then a mentor came. Explained the mechanics. We actually killed it
Titan is definitely the first noob check lol.
Lies, titan killed himself to provide you mercy. Similar to dormamu
Im pretty sure this video is less of showing off that larry is a mentor and more of showing off all his UCoB weapons xD
"What level am I, 60? Oh good, I have Enochian, thank god" I felt that.
"I feel so special! He thinks I know what I'm doing!"
As a mentor this is entirely too accurate.
i was doing the World of Darkness alliance the other day and one the the mentors said that he’ll do call outs. those call outs ended up being him reminding people to dodge the beams after the beams had already killed people. he asked for commendations after.
Shit, no matter how good someone is, if they ask for comms I give them to someone else or nobody at all
As my FC leader said, "this crown does not mean that I know how to play, it means that im royalty and you all need to treat me well or we wipe"
Well said!
I'd argue Living Liquid was worse on the raid scene, but, yeah, Manipulator sucked too.
What was really funny was the groups that couldn't kill Faust and disbanded week 1
I *main* healer and I still reach for Protect.
For several weeks after they removed protect, I didn't know what to do at the start of the dungeon as a tank. I was so used to waiting for the protect I would heistate and just stand there waiting for a spell effect to be my 'ok, now go.' moment. x.X
Unfortunate that there are mentors who make it worse for people who actually want to be mentors and help people. I have FC mates who are actual mentors and like helping people but then just get to see people talk shit about mentors.
Unfortunately there was a large influx of players with the attitude of "u dun pay my sub, i no listen to good mentor advice" many years ago, so most mentors got the attitude that if the little shit sprouts aren't going to listen, why should we try.
The worst is when someone "explains" a mechanic completely wrong, you correct them and then they go off on one about "toxic mentors".
I've personally set myself to trade mentor because I CBA with the attitude of ice mages, no-stance tanks and no-dot bards.
@@Reinforce_Zwei "(...)most mentors got the attitude that if the little shit sprouts aren't going to listen, why should we try." - Then why tf are you even turning on mentor status?
I find that if I wear my crown people get aggressively angry at me. I’ve been kicked out at the start of dungeons because I have my crown.
In those cases you can report
to think he'd put himself at the bottom of the social heiarchy to make a video, what a brave man
A mentor once told me that FFXIV kicks ass. He was right guys, we should worship mentors now!
"For this boss, you reduce its hp to zero before it reduces your hp to zero."
Never before have I heard wiser words or instructions.
"He thinks i know what i'm doing"
Has got to be the only quote that will never be wrong.
if at any point you actually 100% believe you know what you are doing, you're wrong, you don't, STOP.
When you aren't a Mentor: Just play the game.
When you ARE a Mentor: Just play the game.
I'm so jealous. I only get synced ARR Extreme Trials. Then we run out of time, I wasted an hour, and I have to pray I don't get another
You sound like a mentor that doesn’t know the fights
@@omensoffate No, only like one that has dealt with too many newbies that refuse to read chat or queued for a language they don't understand, have no gear and zero ability to improve whatsoever on their own.
Most of the time I'm actually enjoying the experience, but sometimes, the people you get are just...NOT cooperative in the slightest.
@@sleepysera "or queued for a language they don't understand" Sadly for those of us in OCE if we don't que with Japanese enabled as a language then we don't get to do content. But I also actively make an effort to look at fights etc beforehand so yeah
The English voice actor of Pipin is Shulk
A Mentor took me through The Aery unsynced since it was late and the queue was painfully long as a SMN and I wanted to continue MSQ. We wiped the first time because he'd forgotten about Estinien so my sole job at the end was to Physic Estinien during the fight while he took everything out as a Dark Knight.
I made it into a Larryzaur video....I can quit mentor roulette now.
The best mentor I've seen was dressed like a pimp, said "Listen up sprouts" before explaining every fight and made sure to /easternstretch before engaging.
We were in praetorium. The mechanics literally don't matter. No one liked him because he was obnoxious as hell even before the emotes and "Listen up, sprouts" before every other sentence.
Hearing about the history of Ramuh and A4S was pretty interesting, gotta say.
Wish i had more of most of these. Im getting 60% ex trails..
I'd love Larry as my mentor...teach me the history of ffxiv
Playing RDM: suddenly remembering Larry's vid 'AND THEN GO WHITE AND BLACK THEN WHITE AND BLACK ASKSJDJDJSJSJS (inaudible) '
Me: guess he's my mentor....?
I literally have a youtube series called Fails from mentor roulette. The worst is the guildhest Hero on the half shell where you're screaming at the tank don't kill the turtle and he kills it and we fail and it kicks us out.
The crown gives off the wrong feel
Mentor icons should be watering cans
Sadly the Mentor System is inherrently flawed, as it requires ZERO actual knowledge to qualify for it. I would love if it actually had some sort of qualification Examn or smth, to sort out some of the Burger Kings.
Same
Literally anything to ensure some kind of quality control
Cause commendations isnt it
Honestly my biggest gripe is the carrot that people do it for. That stupid crown and the name mentor itself. If they took away the crown and renamed it player assistant or something like that. I guarantee less people would naturally go for it.
So many people I know only did it for the crown and the idea of maybe getting the mount, all horrible reason to be called a mentor
@@bigbay1159 This. When the system was first introduced, so many people asked for it to be a watering can icon or the like, but with the crown, the wrong crowd were the ones attracted to the system...
@@sleepysera I agree, in short the crown, the name mentor, and the mount. Attracted the wrong crowd who are only meant to help. Not benefit
Maybe if they put a system in the mentor roulette that check how many time you have done that content and you can only get content that you have already done, let's say... 10 times at least, the mentor system will be fixed for the most part.
my favorite part of the mentor chat as a returner is when they spoil the story in literally mentor chat
thank you for this upload, really, i managed to laugh a bit after a whole day of figuratively wanting to jump off my house's freaking terrace.
My favorite saying is now "Silence crownless one."
Larry gets carried by sprouts for 2000 queues
Gotta hustle for the pimp horse
I know Mentor in FFXIV is a meme but thanks to you and your videos (plus the amazing community) I've started playing FFXIV a bit more seriously, thanks for showing me this amazing game :3

Good god, I was so pissed when they added great hunt extreme to mentor roulette. Not only did I have to clear that awful fight to get my crown back, but now I also have to do it of a sprout queues for it. Help.
If I had a nickel for everytime a sprout taught me a mechanic while a Mentor was also in the party I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot but its weird that it happens at all like seriously jesus christ you have the crown actually put it to use please
That's because those sprouts are alt characters from actual Mentors who have been playing ffxiv for quite a long time.
@@kinakomono yep. You can definitely tell by the way they talk.
@@MekareP Most of the novice chat is filled with alt sprouts

The mentor crown is the mark of the beast
I only just realized that bosses name is Bockman. "We have Mega Man at home."
I like random history lessons with Larry XD I had no idea that the duty action was added during Stormblood, and what the heck on that A4S fight being so hard. FF14 game history be wild.
I am most dissapointed that there is no burger CUL recipe so I can give out the burgers everyone expects from a burger king crown.
Y'know its a good day when Larry upload a video
Thanks for showing what to be a mentor is like, instead of curse mentors as is happening nowadays. 👑
12:15 luv the elegant dabbing at the end
Thanks for making this video, I needed this today 😂😂😂
Happy to have more content from you! :)
The way you talk during this video is what got me, you are a genius narrator, and I subscribe in a heartbeat, keep those videos up, cause it makes the game more interesting, as I joined the game less than a month back.
I absolutely love the "It's a snake! :O" with the immediate cut afterwards at 1:38
I audibly said “NO!” When I saw the mentor crown on the thumbnail.
Lmao I just did Mentor roulette last night and got Titan EX and it was the first time I've ever done it legit so I feel the "Oh wait this is EX I'm not mentally prepared for this"
The first mentor to speak to me was like the fifth one i ever encountered, and he ACTUALLY helped me figure out whm efficiency
The funniest part was when you asked for ninja to tank... i don't even know how often i had to tank as ninja for when the main tank fell down and heal had to hardcast the rez.
I was legit expecting a foresight slash when you were playing samurai against that Odin. I guess I played so much monster hunter that everytime 'proof of a hero' is played my brain instantly goes back to that game
I love the little history tidbits :D
Larry being a mentor explains why I’ve been involved in so many sprout wipes
Pray you never get in mentor roulette with Larry OR Me. Mentor!Larry will give you game history, and Mentor!Me will spout game lore.
Sproutlings will LEARN whether they want to or not!
I love that you explained the old Summoner egi tactic for Ramuh... I find myself talking about old tactics like that in Discord with people. So many memories of how different things were in the past. Mentor's so often get flak online, but the ones I know are all just decent humans who love the game enough to have touched so much of the content.... and want to help where they can... and yeah... aren't perfect everytime as they are still human.... and honestly, some things they help with, they haven't done themselves in a very long time and things can be skipped now so is different to them... but they aren't afraid to help anyway!
Larryzaur: Be sure to stand under his ... grotesquely Long beard.
Me: I can't unsee that
haha! so many scenarios where i can identify myself lol !
i really like your content, your way of talking! recently subbed, thank you :)
My group will usually queue for an ex we have already finished, just to pull a mentor in.
Mentor roulette acording to my friend: If you get Thordan-ex, niddhog-ex or rathalos just leave. the 30minute penalty is often faster than the group ^^
Rathalos isnt anything to worry about unlike any other extreme. its all dodging. But Throdan, niddhog, sepheriot, ramuh, ditch those lol
I disagree, if the idea of getting stuck in a nightmare extreme with 7 sprouts and no hope of completing doesn't sound like fun to you, if the chaotic energy of herding lemmings through things they aren't even capable of understanding for a full 90 minutes isn't exciting, you probably shouldn't be doing mentor roulette.
lol i been doing this for 2 days straight, my new goal is getting that big pegasus while waiting for Endwalker lol
Remember the faster you kill the boss, the faster it dies.
"This is the hardest guildhest in the game." Legit considering you're only granted four or five moves to use in it.
Ah yes the mark of unpaid IT support. I'm so glad I finished that so that I don't have to meet any more "customers".
“The voice actor for Pipin is Link” the voice actress for Yda is Minnie Mouse!
OK who did it? Who gave Larry 1500 commendations? You see what you have done?! The balance of power has been disturbed!
omg I member letting my lil carby tank Ramuh, and he saved us so many times in potd. Now my poor Cheese Puff feels as though he has no purpose and it makes me sad. I must teach him to slaughter properly like his sisters.

Ngl, I was expecting a "where were the heals?" sort of meme during deltascape 1
