If we talk about servicenow data policy then Data policy in ServiceNow is used to apply rules (mandatory, read only) to all data entered into the system through web services, import set and through the mobile UI.
Data policies maintain the data consistency by setting field state to mandatory and read only.
** By default, data policies are applied to all Glide Record operations including those used in Scripted REST APIs, and the REST Table API.
