Easy method to set timing on Old Bullet | Royal Enfield 0.8mm BTDC

  • Hi guys, the above video is all about setting perfect spark time on a Royal Enfield Bullet 350.
    Steps to be followed
    1. Set the Points gap to 0.4mm at highest opening
    2. At compression mode identify the TDC, Set the piston position to 0.8mm BTDC by rotation the wheel forward and backward on 4th gear.
    3. Turn the points plate and stop at the position when it starts opening (paper gap), this can be identified by taking ammeter as reference, the needle returns back to Centre when points starts opening.
Note: Handle the scale with care, make sure it wont fall inside the cylinder. To be safer, you can tie the scale with some string by drilling a hole on it.
    Regards,
    Bulleto

Great video...this would help so many bulleteers. I do this as a hobby myself because every mechanic in my locality messes with the timing like it would be 4-5mm BTDC or ATDC. I use this same method, but instead of bringing the AMP meter down to the points assembly, I attach a seperate indicator to the contact breaker because i have one lying around, I use taper scale becasue it cannot slip into cylinder after a certain length and i would apply 666 paste to the points cover after completing the timing adjustment to make it waterproof during rainy season and it absolutely works!! even when standing in open rain for hours, it would start like a warmed up engine. Old model bullets are so satisfying to work with because of the timeless british design.

Ensure water doesnt enter/ touch the spark plug adapter area and ignition coil terminals... water moisture will cause spark leak/earthing issue...
