BAND MAID hasn't had a live concert in front of the audience for the past year and a half. They canceled the concert that sold the tickets twice because of COVID-19 just before. This song was created to be performed as a gift for fans at the Budokan, which is considered to be the sacred place of Japanese music. It's a gift for fans who can't meet in a pandemic. There were many fans who cried when they heard this song. This song is not a sad song, but a love song for their fans.
"About Us", in the vein of other great mid-tempo Band-Maid songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Wonderland, Awkward, Start Over, Mirage and Smile, is an amazing song and personal message to their fans - a direction I'm glad to see them add to their journey toward world domination. And we get to hear MISA play the vibe she so enjoys. Their new, beautiful DVD/BD/CD box set (with 100 page picture book) of this incredible concert is unbelievable! Thanks Laura, for bringing "About Us" to your viewers!
Same . even not reading subtitles , the feeling in this song does me in every time too. astounding composition , arrangement and performance. these girls are 1 in a million combination, a freak of nature. god bless Miku and her vision for this band. So many people must have thought she was crazy....but she wasn't.
🐦 On Feb. 14th, 2020 concert *BAND-MAID* announced that they were going to play at *Budokan* on Feb 11th, 2021 playing at *Budokan* is like reaching the top of Mt. Everest but due to Covid the concert was canceled. In the live streaming concert *Saiki* address the fans and said how much *BAND-MAID* missed performing live to their *Masters and Princesses* and was followed up with this song that *BAND-MAID* has made for their fans. 🐦
Music has a way of getting to your emotions and overcoming your defences, regardless of whether you're old or young. We can all have a little sob to this beautiful song. Good reaction, Laura!
It's OK for you to cry. Don't question it. This is a very emotional song - SAIKI puts her soul into this. Then watch it again when you understand that BAND MAID is singing to you directly because they miss the live concerts. MIKU has stated that the concerts are a "Service" to the Masters and Princesses (the audience). SAIKI's speech before this song was sung, is as follows: English translation of what she said. Saiki: We were supposed to meet you today. For the first time in a year, we thought we could meet you all, those of you who could come to see us, but we can’t meet you in the end. I’m sorry. Even though it’s not my fault. We have been having days of turmoil for about a year. In the beginning, we were very surprised because we hadn’t experienced it before, and we had no experience of not being able to meet others in person. We were sad, but we found we shouldn’t be sad in this situation. When I saw you masters and princesses on social media, you were more depressed than us, and we thought that’s terrible. We Band-Maid have been thinking about how to cheer up all of you in the last one year. We truly wanted to meet you at Nippon Budokan, but it’s impossible because of COVID, so let’s wait for the day when we can meet. And in the last one year… or in the COVID pandemic, we have become more eager to cheer you up, and we Band-Maid realized again it’s important to give our songs to you. That’s why we wrote this song for Budokan. We made the album also in the pandemic, so it might have a little similar feel, but this song is planned for Nippon Budokan, and we really want to give it to you masters and princesses now. Budokan is not our goal but just a stepping stone. We will perform at bigger venues, and we promise we will bring you there and give you even better songs, so let’s keep it up a little more. This is our present for you masters and princesses. Please listen to it.
MISA's bass line is pure emotion and musicianship. Possibly Saiki's best vocal...and Miku's counterpoint is on mark as well. Akane playing a very difficult groove...and Kanami, the master just being the phenomenal Kanami.
Nothing wrong with getting emotional with this song. Band-Maid was supposed to play at Budokan (the summit of Japanese music venues) but their performance was canceled due to the pandemic. The band saw the fans were more bummed out than they were about it so they wrote "About Us" as a love letter to their fans. It captures the sadness, anxiety, and uncertainty we're experiencing at this moment in time. I'm a grown man and it cause my eyes to well up a bit. It goes to show how versatile they are as musicians.
Wow what happened, haven't seen you in a while. Nice to see you back with the ladies. This song here About Us, is theirs and the world of rock and rolls, latest masterpiece !

That song made you emotional because Kanami is a goddess-level songwriter.

true
thank you
When this song played on the live stream, there was a sudden rain storm in 67 countries.
This is quite possibly their best song...it comes from the heart...and that is what music should be. Plus, you get Kanami playing two guitars.
