Could you not use rechargeable batteries?

I don't know about this one specifically, but a lot of these will take NIMH rechargable D Cells, but they are kind a pricy and you need a charger that can charge them. If you go that route, be sure you get low self-discharge 8000-10000mah D Batteries. The ~2000mah rechargables are just AA's repackaged as D's and won't last very long.
