Do the New York Yankees own the Houston Astros?
Being a life long Braves guy, and a true fan of baseball, I get the "Yankees" are well...The Yankees....lol...but after last year (I say this, because no one would let the Braves or Dodgers have a under .500 season and not have everyone mention it forever)...that being a bit of rambling on a tangent, I hope this circles it back to your question...lol ..by saying, Sure the Yankees are playing great this year, "SO FAR", and as much as it pains me to find myself in this odd position of kind of taking the side of Houston, It's an obvious NO, they do not own the Astros...They don't own anyone until there's more season and time under the belt.... regardless of how many times the Yankees have beaten the Astros, the Astros have (and I'll give this, but only this, since we-Braves-took a WS from 'em) the Astros have "owned" the American League...they are in not just playoffs each year, they are always there in the deeper end of the playoffs & more time than not, they are there at the the final series...Ben I think I only speak decently of the Astro because I love the Astros
In my opinion, I believe the statement should of been "The Yankees are better than the Astros right now" Based on the current stats yes. But to say "The Yankees own the Astros", no absolutley not and to base that on regular season stats these last couple years is not sufficient evidence to claim that statement especially when the Astros in comparison have the better play off results overall these last few years.
So who doesn't own the Astros these days...😄
Ben, I think you know that trends do change. The Astros USED TO own the Yankees for a while, but as you can now see, the pendulum has swung the other way. Houston's mojo, as I've previously pointed out, is gone. Mexico City was just an anomaly. I want Justin to be able to stay with the Astros, but there's no guarantee now. And there are rumors about Terry Francona being considered by Houston.
You have valid points but I agree with Ben that it doesn’t matter what you do in the regular season against a team. It matters what you do in October against that team and the Yankees haven’t been able to get past the Astros in October. Could that change? Of course it could. But it hasn’t yet. Case in point, Astros own the Rangers in the regular season year in and year out. Well who won when it counted the most last season? That one is only a small sample compared to Yankees and Astros but still. Concept is the same.
Ohtani can be the first injured pitcher to win MVP
Shohei is the most athletic and skilled player in baseball history. Shalom
三冠王と盗塁王でDH初のMVP受賞
大谷がまた歴史を塗り替えるのかワクワクだね
Shohei has 2.5 WARs in 39 games, so he is on pace for 10.0+ WAR. If he gets there, he has a pretty good shot at MVP…but only if Mookie cools off..
Mookie actually looks like he has cooled of a little this month compared to ohtani who is getting hot
yall funny af with the astro conversations😂
Alex, it was me that paid for your Netflix. Quan from Texas :) Go Shohei!
🤣
50-40 will be difficult ... hope he does break his own 46 HR record. No need to chase that 40 SB. I rather see him hitting doubles, which seems not that difficult for him. I think if he hits more than 46 HR and leads NL in HR (with OPS above last years number), he will win MVP ...
Do you think the voters will be open to a DH winning?
@@FlippinBatsPod I think they will (Shohei is not just a DH, but a special DH). If he gets an NL-leading 47+ HR, he will be in MVP race. Whether he wins or not obviously depends on how others do in the season, but his superstar status will help him A LOT. If he puts up a historic number like 50-40, it would be another unanimous MVP ...
At this point it wouldn't be surprising to say the only thing he wants is the ring. The rest doubt he cares
Ben was gonna cry when you mentioned the trashstros 🤣🤣
I remember Teoscar Hernandez as a young Fresno Grizzlies OF. He seemed like a genuinely good kid, playing a game he loved in a foreign country. Besides working hard to get to "The Show", he was, also, taking a class to learn the language. He did the interview with the local news station without an interpreter. I'm a lifelong Giants fan, but, will, always, wish for the best for Teoscar, regardless of the uniform he wears.
Ben and Alex, I like your enthusiasm but I'm a pessimist/realist. As much as I would love to see Shohei continue to put up these numbers throughout the season, I just don't think it's going to happen. The numbers he's putting up right now are just freaking crazy and to continue doing it for the entire season would be insane. As special as Shohei is, I just don't think it's going to happen. I would love to be proven wrong. Great episode!
Like its certainly possible, he did 44 homers with more then 20+ games to spare and stole only 20 bases while pitching. This year he got no load from pitching and has already stolen 9 bases and we are only 1/4th of the way into the season. Even by conservative estimates he would have 40+ homers and 30+ steals. I am thinking more like 45 homers 35 SB snd 0.325 BA
“If Shohei won the triple crown it would help his case for MVP.” Captain Obvious
Would help?!? Triple crown winner should be automatically an MVP!!
@@xiaobiaoxu5984 I was quoting what Alex said!
I hate those betting jokes under every ohtani post on social media, how they choose to ignore the facts and insist on believing what they want to believe. Even when the truth came out, they never admit they were wrong and go even further to attack the truth instead...
Agreed. You don't hear the same gambling jokes with Michael Jordan, even though it's been proven he's got a gambling problem.
Maybe after he rests his back, he can win the MVP.
If shohei doesn't get bonus points to his mvp eligibility for playing as an elite pitcher, then he shouldn't be penalized for playing strictly as a DH due to injury.
I do, however, like what Ben said about the Astros still owning the Yankees in the postseason. That's what I'd still like to see. All we still have to find out is whether or not these Astros still have it in themselves to get it done.
And mookie playing well also helps shohei's stats (more rbi, less walks) insane situation 😂
Ben d riding the Astros hard as always
Ben, I just hope that my Astros GET to October.
The name of this show should be changed to "Flippin bats for Ohtani"
Spicy!! Hope you all enjoyed this episode!
anyone who actually believes ippei was the fall guy in this case has no context on the matter...the dude blatantly lied on his CV from past education & work history
10 years paying someone else's netflix is a little creepy. Especially if they were tracking what you were watching.
Excited to see how Skenes does in his first big league start.
That Contreras injury is nasty and I definitely don't want to see it again. I watch a lot of MMA and I've seen people break their own legs while kicking and I always hate seeing those too.
Dylan Cease is absolutely killing it for my home team. Can't get enough of him. Pads won a series vs the Dodgers earlier in the year, hope we can try and do that again but its definitely daunting. I think it's really amusing that the LA and SD teams always have fun, ultra competitive and/or entertaining games with each other while the fans fight each other and call each other names on twitter.
The batter was standing so far back though. If you see his stance, his back foot is outside the batting box. It was a combination of both.
I think this should be an incentive for the mlb to make it clear where the batters and catchers should stand.
Doesn’t matter what happens in the regular season all the matters is what happens in the post season.
Let me know how the Asterix do in the post season this year 😂
I agree until the playoffs… astros own us cheating or no cheating they keep sending us home!! I want them in the playoffs this year!! We have Soto now
The Astros are 8 games back in DEAD LAST PLACE and only the White Sox have lost more games in the AL. They are so done it’s ridiculous. How can you at this point STILL think they have a prayer!
It’s May and look who has a little momentum going..
The fact that Ben isn’t really worried about the Astros right now is shocking to me. The Astros are currently 13-24 on May 10th, last year the Astros 24th loss came on June 4th and that team finished 90-72. So the fact that you can say your not worried about the Astros right now because of previous seasons, when last season was the worst record they’ve had since 2016 and they are a MONTH BEHIND that pace should worry you
Doesn't the very fact that a pitcher is recording a negative FIP indicate that such analytical scales are just invalid? Besides, you can never take out the contributive influences a catcher has on a pitcher, so FIP is crippled anyway in the first place, isn't it? If general managers and scouts are using it as a reference, it can be helpful. I guess, but from a baseball fan perspective, it's plain absurd. We as humans see, watch and enjoy things through their totality not the analytical bits of them.
The other thing is that relief pitchers, by definition, are the most dependent on other players and pitchers to win a game, existence-wise. So, saying that the stat means he can win a game even if his team didn't score a single run when talking about a closer is not just impossible or impractical, but even metaphorically, downright ridiculous. I personally have always thought that even ERAs should be applied to starting pitchers only (and to some extent middle relievers), and even if it were so, they should always be referred to in relevance and compensation with winning percentage. As for relief pitchers, the number of holds or saves are better indicators of their performance. Analytics are basically for the front management, and some analytical stats can serve the managers and coaches well, but for the fans, what we can see and practically understand is what we appreciate. People say traditional metrics are inaccurate and out of fashion, but I see no new metrics that actually has no such inaccuracies.
Of course, this doesn't diminish the fact that Miller is pitching fantastically.
Cool story bro
She’s kidding right? A team doesn’t own a team because of the regular season success and even to argue right now you can’t say that because HOU has two more rings than the Yankees in the last 10 years and I hate the astros
It's because she outright hates the astros, she has a hate bias towards them, like I get it they suck rn but when was the last time the yankees won when it counted against the astros
@@theguywholikesturtlez4207 I hate them too but to say what she is saying makes no sense lol and just like you said astros show up when it really counts and they seem to knock out the yanks every time they meet up in the postseason
Alex hates The Astros so much, its WILD!!!!!!
If The Padres or Diamindbacks beat the Dodgers in 9 straight, do they now own The Dodgers?
Well if they do beat dodgers on 9 straight games then they definetly own dodgers
If Cardinals and Contreras were basically trying to deceive the umpires and make them call low balls strikes, and if that’s what led to this injury, would this be another reason for bringing robot umpire to major league?
Victor Martinez 2014 was 2nd on al mvp voting
That's a great shout
ben being so disrespectful to alex about the astros is a crazy look. dude the astros are ass right now, if you’re holding out hope for the astros then that’s crazy copium
also “i could care less” implies that you currently care more than you could
@@user-li7cr2ut1nhe’s probably still upset because his brother got absolutely rocked the other night
I think the DH penalty is too harsh to overcome for MVP and Ohtani would need to hit 60 homers and win the triple crown to pass Mookie if Mookie also keeps up his pace since he's playing shortstop.

I love this show. I’ve watched it for years. But….. Ben, you’re right. I’m so sorry, you CANNOT be serious. What in the hell were you even trying to say Alex? Have you not watched a single game of baseball in the last 10 years??? By all means, hit me back. I cannot believe what I just heard :/
Ben “the postseason is the only thing that matters”. Shohei has never been to the postseason…
The idea that only a few games in a certain month count more than 162 games is wild. You need to do well in the 162 games to even get to October.
All the while everyone claiming 'the 2020 season title doesn't count because it wasn't AS MANY GAMES AS NORMAL'
Which is it folks? A large pool of games counts for nothing or it does count for something?
The Yankees own the trashtros 40-18pts. The Astros winning in October is a statistical fluke NOT an actual statistic.
Known dodger lover tries to get rise out of Astros lover. New title 😂 she’s speaking from up top her pedestal, let’s table this til the playoffs
Also remind her that the dodgers choke more than they win in the playoffs, the flip can be said about the Astros. But she’ll ignore that of course
Miller will be an Oriole soon.
He is not gonna get 30 years and yeah people have taken a life sentence as a fall guy before you are wrong the speed of it amps up the suspicion
God i hope they get swept by the Padres ( wont happen). But it would be awesome.
Ben has such rose tinted glasses on for the Astros. He's looking at them like they're the same team that won the WS in '22 or made the ALCS 7 straight years. They are not though, they are 8 years older than what he thinks they are, their way of thinking of how to build a team has gone backwards mainly due to interference from their owner, their bullpen is terrible, the offense is above average but not elite, and the starting pitching is okay but banged up. The fact he's just hand waving away everything Alex has said to him about the Astros is obnoxious and frankly the fact he said he didnt hear anything she had said is just rude and annoying. Anyone with eyes should be able to see that the Astros are a bad team right now and that yes, the Yankees own them, at least in the regular season. His argument or belief that only the playoffs matter when it comes to owning a team is just weird. It does matter if a team makes the playoffs but for Ben to dismiss history which has shown only one team ever make the playoffs after the start the Astros have had shouldn't be dismissed. Yes, if the Astros somehow make the playoffs as like the 2nd wild card team, they might get the benefit of the doubt, but they wouldn't deserve it.
I get the feeling Ben doesn't handle or do much for the UA-cam channel cause I doubt he would have loved this comment all that much, lol
Ben you need to look closer at history regarding the Astros. Not because your brother plays there. Historically the Astros don’t win and you act like they’re baseball royalty because they won a their First Championship and even that they had to tank for over a decade and even worse, cheat, to get it. You throw the Astros name into the “Elite team” hat with the likes of Dodgers, Yankees, Braves etc when they and other teams are and thats almost cute that you think that. Remember you can’t polish a turd.
A TV Show will be disgusting, they will onclude some invented things just to show a tricky situation that can affect Shohei image. Be prepared for big lawsuits!!! L. A. and its life style sucks!!!
Alex low key committed credit card fraud for a decade lol...
Sorry, but that Brady roast was a waste of 3 hours. Was not funny and boring
Alex is so disingenuous lmao
Her blatant prejudices against the Astros makes her sound like a joke and doesn’t know what she’s talking about. We are taking about over the last 7 years. This is funny. Sometimes on the some of the things she says , not just here , makes her sound like a person who doesn’t understand baseball.
What no one is talking about is that a very sick man just threw his life away. Gambling is a sickness, as much as alcoholism is. Shalom
No one knew and only admitted it when it became a scandal. If you want help, it's there but you have to open up. He didn't therefore he's paying the consequences.
@@RayzeCruxis True. If you do the crime you gotta do the time. But I do not feel bad for Shohei. He has baseball, a new wife with kids on the way, and will make over $100 million this year so he will be ok but Ippei is in for a world of pain.
This woman is the most annoying human being I’ve ever heard…
