Thank you for watching!
Own it. 😊
I never could handle the sound of chalk on a chalk board. 😬😖
Such a lovely song from the youngin!!! And I don't even know what was said!!! Lol
The sounds of gardening are very relaxing. Its garden ASMR!
Young children are so fun to have around, you are truly blessed David.❤
Psalm 127:3-5
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:
David is indeed happy and blessed ❤️
❤David, your soil looks so good and healthy!
I have to say that this video is in my top 5 favorites of yours - based solely on the joy that comes from listening to your little sing and giggle!! ❤
Such a cool sound as the earth comes up and roots are popping
I truly love those little voices and of course the little kids themselves. Mega cute.
When that Ube snapped right in front of the camera, trailing sticky purple strings of goo, my first thought was "He's buried an alien! He's composting it!"
Quickly followed by the thought that it was a failed dessert experiment. I mean, you DO compost everything.

May I suggest? Whenever you digging up these weird things that I have no idea what they are. Or if I would have ever enjoy them Could you tell us if? They're sweet. Bland. A bit savory And a few of the ways that you prepare them. Do you fry them? Boil them? Bake them? Or eat them raw. And maybe even some of the dishes you make out of them. It sure would be helpful.
I have shared a lot of them in other videos. Dioscorea. You can find plenty on the website, too.
@@davidthegood My first video. I was hoping to see what a "true" yam looked like but all I saw were dirty lumps of something.
The episode was 60% ASMR and 40% adorable kid antics 😂
One of the most beautiful sounds: cutting roots (that you intended to cut) in the harvest!
And I love the sounds of the children! They are such blessings!! 🙏❤️
I joined the yam growing contest 2 years ago here in Okinawa Japan and watched your videos to learn how to grow yams and how to build soil with leaf mold , bio char , and composting etc, the first year I came 27 th with a 9 kg yield and this year just gone I got 2nd place with a 67 kg yield with my heaviest yam being 20 kg .
The old boys around have been growing yams for years and they put everything into growing them like making platforms for the vines and having special fields set aside only to be used for their contest yams and for a noob like me to come in and take 2 nd place is not a easy feat. Thank you David for your videos , I couldn’t of done it with out You and our Lord Jesus Christ .
By the way The winning yam was 150 kg 😮
That is awesome! Would you write and share how you did it? david@floridafoodforests.com
You need to talk about that shovel. How do those serrated edges work on tough but thin woody roots, for example, and who makes it???
Wow! That really is a prolific survival crop. Inspiring! Now I will grow some of these in spring (I'm 25 miles due south of you).
Where are you? Is he in N. central Florida? - I am, too. So what big city is he, or you near? Thanks! Just discovered his channel. (I'm about 50 miles south of the Georgia border, FYI).
Wonderful!
The artist formerly known as "DeeToTheGee" makes his triumphal return.... and then is soundly upstaged. ❤🙏☺️
Would love to see them cleaned and prepared 😊
We have videos
David, I heard recently that Winged Beans are considered a staple crop and survival food in many places due to their unusually high caloric count for a bean. Can you speak to this? Do you have any experience growing them?
Apparently the leaves are also good when young, and it produces tubers which are commonly eaten.
They are day length sensitive though. So you don’t get beans until fall unless you get an early freeze. Bonus is that due to the tuber it can be perennial if you live in a warmer climate. I’m in 9a and grew some that were supposed to be day length neutral…. But they weren’t really. I cut them down in late fall and mulched them really good but we have had 18 degree nights for 3 in a row now. So it prolly wasn’t enough…..
I tried growing them in North Florida and they didn't produce much at all. I think we got one pod.
@@davidthegoodDang, I guess it’s not worth it in 7a then. Thanks!
I tried growing it in zone 7b Oklahoma and it took a really long time to produce pods. I planted them at start of May and got my winged beans in September. To me, it didn't taste that good. A little on the side of fibrous and it wasn't that prolific compare to the pole beans. Needless to say I won't be planting them again. But they do survive and produce in zone 7b.
The ones I got from Baker Creek have been growing and producing well for me in Florida 9b.
Thanks!
Great yield!
True yams are so good
I got harvest here in the UK as well
Greetings from the Caribbean
nice work
Ah the suspense ❤
May the joy of the Lord fill your Spirit and shine for all to see Keep looking up love and blessings
I started and was interested until y'all broke that one and the alien drool came out😂. Was like nope. Enjoy your yams and have a blessed day.
Oh, don't I wish that I could dig into the earth now! All I can dig now is 18 inches of white stuff. 😊
Ube my favorite sweet potato. Did not know we could grow it here in USA. 🇺🇸 thank you David
I don't know if I have the strength to dig these. My raised beds were easier to dig. Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏖 🏝
Absolutely stunning. David, one more time please, where do you source these from? Getting lucky at your local grocery store or do you special order them.
This was fascinating..part of the time I couldn't tell if it was your chickens or mine I was hearing!!!
Need a translator on the lovely singing in the background 😂 love the chalkboard. What no fountain ⛲️
I use my braudfork for this kind of work. It goes down 14 inches and has more leverage under them.
Awesome, but what about the fountain? Addicted to the fountain, and the rabbit fruit salad song.
Dioscorea are true yams not sweet potatoes. But I havd always heard they had a 12 month or longer growing season. How can you raise them north of south FL. What varieties can be raised in the north.
AMEN!!
Where can we get these to plant in our garden? How many day length or growing degree days?
Good eating!
Looks like a lot of small roots and dirt being weighed there….
Hi David, I have been planning on growing yams but I have heavy nematode pressure despite using many methods to reduce them, do you know if yams are susceptible to nematodes? If so what was the extent of the damage caused by them?
I’ve tried several times to grown them here in upstate NY with very success. I usually get some but they’re very small. They require a long very warm growing season. Maybe it would work up here in a green house better idk. 🤷🏻♀️
Nice haul !!! Will be looking forward to your plant sales this spring, are you planning on coming to the same place !?
We are going to be at the Palafox Market in Pensacola, starting on March 2nd.
@@davidthegood Awesome can’t wait to see you guys !
Can you get results like this in zone 7? I've grown some for fun, but they haven't produced much. I didn't give them a lot of attention, though.
I’m in zone 10 north
Florida. I’m trying to turn my yard into a food forest. I have an all grass yard, That I’m working around. I want to grow sweet potato but am not sure how much depth they need to grow and how do I deal with all this grass? Do i dig it out and fill in with dirt or do I plant on top of it with soil I put in?
I was wondering how much you got from that big ole yam
How far north can these be grown and have it be worth it?
I got some seed now what do i do?
I am in cold zone 8 or old warm zone 7. Jan 17 2024 starting out at 13f. you have inspired me try to gow food. thanks I am probly going to lose weight.
Let me guess, yams 😂
Nice haul!
Do sweet tasters need to vstartc from slips ovcan you use a plant
We got a great shot of the chemtrails. Are they doing them daily by you as well?
Almost daily
Whats up with the purpleness? I have not noticed that myself yet
Wow! They don't look like they'd work in zone 9, the low desert in Arizona, though. Am I wrong about that?
I don't know.

Found them. I am a dork. k ol
David I hate to be that guy but how do I get my hands on these to get started planting them
I got some from etsy
From reading the comments, I am guessing that was an "Ube" but it looked like you dug up something that was still bleeding. Ugh!
Do the ants eat them? Every time I plant potatoes, the ants eat them. I know these aren't potatoes but still something delicious to attract them.
No, the ants ignore these. They love the potatoes I plant, though.
What are u digging up...
Yams, real yams, not sweet potatoes.
Did you just hear your child? There are 2 dots out there blinking.
Yes, I'm not sure what she was talking about.
Multiple species of cultivated yams are invasive in the U.S. so it's highly recommended you don't plant them.
It would be a travesty to overlook such a good staple crop.
Do you belong to the wef Bob?
