This is my cover of one of my favourite GnR songs from the Appetite for Destruction.
I made the backing track myself using a midi file (bass and drums) as base. I changed some details in the midi file, fixed some mistakes it had (on drums mostly), and then I converted the midi files (drums and bass separated) to mp3.
The song was written by Izzy Stradlin, thats why he plays the guitar solo in this song.
As you know, talking about the guitar work, this song has the classic GnR structure: Slash on the right channel of the audio playing rhythm, Izzy on the left channel playing rhythm, and Slash appears from time to time on the center of the audio playing licks, intro lead, outro lead, solos, etc.
So about my arrangement, I mixed both guitar parts played by Slash, so it can be played on a single guitar (which you hear on the right channel of my video), and Izzy stays as it is on the original song (Izzy is always easy to cover when it comes to guitar parts, cuz most times theres just 1guitar played by Izzy in GnR songs), and you can hear this guitar on the left channel of my video.
There are a couple of licks that are located on the verses, they show up on a 3rd guitar (These licks are also played by Slash, but they couldnt fit on the "Slash arrangement for one guitar" that I made, it just didnt sound good, so I recorded them on a 3rd guitar).
And also, during the choruses, theres an acoustic guitar played by Slash, I recorded this part with my stratocaster using "acoustic guitar" effect.

I don't know if you're ever gonna look at this comment but I'll just leave it here. You are the only guy on youtube that has perfectly laid down Izzy's part of the song too :) Gotta love Izzy. He's a genius (Not that Slash isn't). There are a lot of other songs where Izzy's parts are really fucking great like Dust n Bones, 14 years, double talkin jive.. I noticed most people assume all of the cool parts should be played by Slash, most of them dont even consider the possibility that maybe it wasnt Slash who came up with those licks, solo, riff, arrangement, or even lyrics.
Izzy was a very important part of this band.
Thats why I like to pay tribute to him when I make a GnR cover, and I let people know which parts were played by Slash and which ones by Izzy.
I play the rhythm guitar and Izzy has been the biggest influence for me :) But you know, there's no Rock scene in India :(

thanks, we are working on it. Its not as easy as making a solo video. The virtual covers take way more time, but we are getting there.

claro, no me refiero a moverlas de lugar en la linea de tiempo.
Mas bien debes fijarte en los settings de cada track, cada uno de ellos tiene una opción para moverlos de posición en las bocinas. Por ejemplo, si mueves uno de ellos a la izquierda 100% se escuchará solo en la bocina izquierda. Debes encontrar esa función.

well you have to set up Cubase to recognize your pedal manually. You have to go to Devices > DevicesSetup > VST Multitrack > Control Panel > Advanced Settings
and you have to highlight only your pedal on both Input Ports and Output Ports, thats all.

cada track de tu proyecto en Cubase lo puedes mover a la derecha o a la izquierda, es una función de cualquier programa de manejo de audio.

yes, he plays the main solo cuz he wrote the song, but it seems that Slash wasnt too happy with that, and he still added solos to the intro and outro xD

I played that part on another guitar cuz I dont like the sudden change from distortion to acoustic tone if you play it all on a single guitar, thats why Slash's part kept playing rhythm (distortion), and a 3rd guitar appears playing the acoustic tone leading.

well, we tend to think that its so easy to play guitar cuz it looks easy when we watch covers or people playing guitar.
Its not hard but its not that easy either.
We just gotta have a clear goal, enjoy what we are doing and be patient. Trust me, it takes time.

I used my effects pedal for direct recording. I think every amp is different, but I'd start with bass-5, treble-5 and middle-10, see what happens, and I would just adjust from there. I wouldnt use much conture for Slash's tone.

thanks, no problem, thats called Pickguard, you can take it off, it has just 2 screws keeping it over the guitar.
I take it out when Im covering some Slash's part on a GnR song, cuz Slash doesnt use pickguards on his les pauls.

Excellent stuff mate ..spot on,..make old slash proud :)
first I got the midi tracks, separated, bass and drums. Then I used a "midi to mp3 converter" to get mp3 files.
Then I used Cubase to mix them all together, you can duplicate the tracks to make them sound better, more real. I did that to the drum track.
