The decennial Census of 2021 has been pushed forward yet again and is unlikely to start till September 2023, at least. The Additional Registrar General of India communicated to States on January 2, without specifying a reason, that the date of freezing of administrative boundaries has been extended till June 30. The Census can only begin three months after the boundaries have been frozen, and the completion of the Census in its two phases takes at least 11 months. Thus, even if started in an urgent fashion from October this year, the possibility of its fruition in 2023 or early 2024 is ruled out, as general elections are due in March-April 2024. How is the Census conducted? India’s first proper or synchronous Census, one which begins on the same day or year across regions of the country, was carried out in 1881 by the colonial administration and has since happened every 10 years, except the one that was supposed to be carried out in 2021 What counts is seldom counted The decennial census is carried out by lakhs of enumerators empanelled and trained by the government in two phases. The first phase is the housing Census, where data on housing conditions, household amenities and assets possessed by households are collected and the second phase is where data on population, education, religion, economic activity, Scheduled Castes and Tribes, language, literacy, migration, and fertility are collected. The freezing of boundary limits of administrative units such as districts, sub-districts, tehsils, and police stations, happens between two consecutive censuses as State administrations often create new districts or merge, or reorganise the existing units.

Politicians of India are more focused on 5 years after the current election. Large scale developmental projects take much more than 5 years, sometimes extending upto 30 years. If such large projects are not in the focus of governments, no way can India become developed soon enough.

navi mumbai is in top 5 so there is that. I lived in bhopal which is the second cleanest city in india and the main reason is that since population density is not that high and public services are done regularly that the city is clean. I am already seeing and improvement in cleanliness in delhi and mumbai idk about other cities but i am sure they are improving too

Before I always thought about bihar got unlucky with so much potential still no progress, but when I heard about they are conducting caste census, then I think that there priority is another level, despite the most undeveloped state, bihar population not asking questions about jobs, good quality of life..which should be state's priority according to dpsp.

From Aadhar card we already have an almost correct data regarding population. Since even new born babies are required to make aadhar card. Only problem is we don't know how many aadhar card owners are dead.
Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship. It is a proof of residency. Anyone living in India for more than 6 months is eligible for one. Even if you are a foreigner living India you could get one. Also people never bother changing the address in aadhaar when they move to different place the way they are supposed to because it is too much hassle.

Few months back I was exactly thinking why census is not happening.
There has been a drastic change in India Census dynamics from 2011 in terms of population , male vs female,urban vs rural, education level, income levels, asset ownership, age groups, jobs and many more aspects which needs to be updated for future Govt policies on ground implementation.
