How to Make a Concrete and Light Sign
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 кві 2017
- This is a great idea for a sign with lights that you can display on your shop, restaurant, company or even your home, using some words you like or your business name or logo.
The method for making the mould shown here is fairly easy and cheap. You can make this project with just an x-acto knife or a jigsaw if you don't have access to a band saw.
I want to see your results so please tag Get Hands Dirty on your social media on your concrete sign post!
Be carefull about the electrical connections. The metallic parts of the sockets cannot touch the concrete by any means and make sure you wire them in parallel.

Wow wow wow! So excited from every video you're doing! Everything is so accurate from the diy thing itself to the video making... Totally one of the greatest Chanel on UA-cam! Keep going!
Антонина Резник I also like how everything is exactly done!
Борщ TV yaaaaay! Getting all Russian fans together! :D
Антонина Резник )))
Adorei a técnica do garfo eheheh.
Parabéns bom trabalho
:D ahah obrigada!
Well, that's the reason i like get hands dirty...The idea of using foam for the mold is perfect. Easy, quicker and cheaper...Well done
Those little bulbs were unique. This sign turned out great!
FROM Brazil: Inspiration!!! This is what I think about the MORE I watch your videos. Thank you.
Excellent work!
I am lazy, so my approach would have been to take the lamp socket tube instead of PVC pipes, and bury those in concrete. Then I would have painted the metal contacts with some insulating resin, and poured another thin concrete layer to cover the wires in the back.
I love you channel!
Using the Fork was Genius! Great Project!!
Wow - I didn't know concrete could be conductive. I guess that's my "What did you learn today?" for today.
It could be a poor conductor only if it was wet.
It’s not really conducive it’s the opposite
That spacing between the concrete and the frame just makes this project!
This is one of my favorite projects you have done. The whole thing. The relief around the edges - the square nosed bulbs - everything. Well done.
Yes! Very well done! The floating look adds a nice touch of depth to the arrangement. Please consider adding a backing board to the back of the frame - there seems to be enough room left behind the corner brackets. You may know, that there are 220 Volt bearing wires at the back, but other people may not know it (yes, I know, the risk is small since it is in your apartment). I once had been at a workshop and got an electrical shock from a power strip, where someone removed the back...
Really really nice! To change the final surface finish you should try to change the mold material, but still add something to the cement in order to avoid cracks!
Fantastic - Love it! The foam worked great and the foam letters actually looked cool on the their own. :)
Thanks Pask :) Yeah, I felt a bit pity to destroy the letters, I must confess ahah
I love those little bulbs you used!!
Thanks Mike, yeah, they are sweet!
I just got a membership to a tool library and workshop, and your videos are so inspiring!
Really like those bulbs...the flat top looks great against the concrete...
Hey, you are an inspiration. Seriously, I wanna be you when I grow up, and I'm almost 30. Thanks for your channel!
Great looking sign. Really like how those bulbs look. Very nice design and execution overall.
Excellent video. Very informative and straight forward process. I particularly enjoy the combination of the wood, concrete and electrical elements. When I glue up mitered frames I prime both cut faces thoroughly with glue, wait 1 to 2 minutes by my watch and then put on one more light cost on one face and then clamp up. Any end grain will suck up glue like a sponge leaving less glue in the joint so by letting the first coats get absorbed and applying one more you will discover it leaves more glue in the joint. You will see dry areas appear on the cut faces as the glue gets sucked below the surface. I test my woodworking theories by doing sample joints and see how difficult it is to break the sample joints into pieces. Glue primed miter joints are noticeably stronger than unprimed. Not that it is as strong as a face to face or face to edge glue joint is. My recent reading on glue joints in wood suggests that any type of wood to wood glue up can benefit from this technique. G
Excelent job!
Easy to do, low cost, pure materials, great finished!!!
Greetings from Pasto - Colombia.
Really good. How about christmas tree lights instead? The wood fibre probably added some strength to your concrete. Using just cement powder usually means the concrete is fragile and liable to break so the wood fibre worked like the regular aggregate (stones) that is normally used. Rob
Great job Cristiana! Maybe the use of heat-shrink tubing for the insulation of the electric parts would be a plus, but that's a tiny detail.
I love all the different projects you come up with
I think that the amount of wood chips you used in the concrete mixture was perfect! It created a really subtle texture which I love! Awesome project (:
The floating look is awesome. Well done.
Really like the gun-shaped push! As always, nice video!
Another awesome project!!!!! I love your projects, editing, commentary... EVERYthing!!! Plus your English is near on perfect!
Looking forward to the next one!!
Nice project and video! The bulbs give a really retro feel, a very cool contrast with the concrete and smooth wood. I like it a lot! Big fan!
Great result! I really like this design
Thank you my friend! :)
Loved this idea, will be trying it in the next couple of weeks and will definitely report back with the results.
Great video. I especially love the timber frame and floating effect. You could even run some LED's behind the concrete to accentuate the floating frame when the lights are on.
Loved the video. The reveal really pulls it together.. Great idea!

GIVE MORE
It's so beautiful.
Brilliant!!!! I love it!!!
Amazing as usual
in a pinch if u don't have plastic concrete anchors wood dowels work very well. in this case, being so close to the edge, the plastic anchors would be a better choice but if you are doing something that really needs to hold wood dowels are superior. i do it all the time at work, i drill a ¼" hole and pound a 5/16" dowel into it and by the time you screw a scew into it the thing that is being secured is impossible to pull out. very nice sign!
Damn, you really just sold me on that Jet filter.
amazing job Cristina!
un abrazo desde México.
Super création Chris, ça donne (comme d'habitude) plein d'idées, merci pour ce tuto ;)
Hi Chris, you rock!!!! I'll be doing a light sign as soon as I have some free time, thanks for the inspiration ;)
Thanks for sharing this very creative and wonderful idea, simply brilliant :)
Definitely making one of these ..thanks
😮 wooow!!! I have no doubt, you are the best!!! 👏👏👏
No me queda duda, tu eres la mejor!!! 😎👌
To be honest, I would've just used the foam board to make a faux concrete effect. However this was amazing! Good job
