65 Years Later, A Mother's Secret Revealed

- Sixty-five years ago a teenage girl in small town Oklahoma gave birth to a baby boy and within days she gave that baby boy up for adoption. In 2010, 1,500 miles away in Colfax, Washington, that mother and son reunited. KXLY4's McKay Allen reports.

I relate with this woman. It’s so sad 8n the first place that we, as young girls, were totally ostracized. I couldn’t go back to the high school in the middle of my junior year. I had to attend another school that was further away and I had to take 2 buses. But, I did it. My family wouldn’t hear of giving my baby girl away so when she was about 2 days old, my aunt came to the hospital and brought us home. Because my family stood together, I marched with my class June 7, 1964. My daughter is now 56 and we are sooo close. She has one son who has 5 kids. Just 1 son and 4 girls. I started my junior year of high school in Faith Home a place for unwed girls and women. During that time I only missed 4 days of school, so I didn’t realize I wouldn’t be accepted back in my beloved James A. Garfield High School. Many many women my age didn’t have the family I had so therefore school wasn’t in the picture. I love this video and I’m still in tears so happy for this mom and her baby boy. Take care,

My grandpa had this same story....but he didn't get to meet his mother...there was only 2 people alive to confirm she had a child...I m so glad he got to meet his mother....

When he said that he is the luckiest man alive just to say once to his mother how much he loves her, man that did it. the tears are still flowing as I write this. God is Great!
Considering the era she gave birth in she definitely was forced to give him up. A lifetime of pain for both, but luckily ended in a happy reunion. I am happy and proud of this woman for not keeping her son's existence a secret and openly celebrates his existence and love for him with others.

My grandmother an unmarried mother in 1926 gave birth to my Nan. She always said she would never have let anyone take her away from her. My mum is now92 and alive and well. The trouble I think here, it sounded like her family were more worried about what the blooming church thought, than the feelings of their poor daughter. So really it wasn’t the era that was the problem it was her heartless parents.
My mother was born June 3, 1949 & raised by staunch Catholic parents, the second of 8 children. She met my father around her 16th birthday, shortly before he tricked her into “laying” with him. As a result, she became pregnant with me. Since her parents were unable to get her to have an abortion due to how far along she was in the pregnancy, she was “persuaded” by her parents to marry my father before I was born, even though she was too young to get married or have a child of her own, in my grandparents’ opinion. By the time that I was around 18 months my father had abandoned my mother & I in a very far away city than my mom had grown up in, then kidnapped me from my mom’s care because, even though he didn’t want me, he didn’t want my mom to have me either.
A few years after our returning to Vancouver she was introduced to the man who, 28 days after my 5th birthday, would become the friend, confident, partner, & husband to my mom & the father I deserved. My mom & I had a very close relationship until my sister, Julie, came along 7 years after I was born, & then our little brother, Danny, 2 years after that. As a result of the arrival of Julie & Danny the loving relationship between my mother & I had soured to the point that Mom fought with me several times a day, every day.
I ran away from home the day after my 15th birthday to go live with my dad’s father. A little over a year later I deliberately got pregnant with my then boyfriend when I became aware of the fact that I was losing him, just so that I could have someone in my life who would love me unconditionally or ever leave me. I was 17yrs & 2 weeks when I got pregnant, unlike my mom who was 17yrs & 24 hrs old when she delivered me.
I was put into the care of Social Services when I was about 6 months along in my pregnancy so that I would have a place to live & would teach me how to care for myself, a household, & a baby. After my son, Curtis, was born we were placed into another foster home to continue my training to be able to properly care for myself, Curtis, & our household. Unfortunately, it was a foster home where the only reason I was taken in there was so that the foster woman, Elizabeth, could get my innocent baby for her own. I managed to keep him with me until he was 5 months & 3 days old in spite of the mistreatments put upon me by Elizabeth before I was unable to protect him any longer, so I agreed to give him up for adoption to a infertile couple who lived far from Elizabeth’s reach ... or so I thought. Curtis was severely traumatized by Elizabeth’s actions in keeping him physically apart from, but still within his sight of me. The very last time that we saw each other was the morning that he turned 5 months & 3 days old, as he was being carried away from me in his car seat, with him hysterically crying & reaching for me. I was told later that he had cried until they were halfway to the airport to fall into an exhausted sleep. It took several days before he no longer looked for & cried for me, or so I was informed. In the week following our separation Elizabeth followed Curtis the very next day after he was taken away from me, Social Services vowed to assist me to get my son back, then refused to help me, the adoptive couple promised that they would give him back to me if I changed my mind, then told me 2 days later thatI couldn’t have him back after all, my lawyer assured me that he would help me get Curtis back, but refused to even see me the very next day. I was removed from Elizabeth’s home before she got back from living for about 8 days with my son in his new family’s home, put into a boarding house placement, where my legal adoption papers were stolen from my locked bedroom, & burned by my landlady, on Elizabeth’s orders. The only lawyer that I was able to get to even see me for a consult, let alone was willing to help me get Curtis back, was threatened by Elizabeth to drop the case. I had been moved to another boardinghouse immediately after my legal papers had been stolen from my locked room & my new landlady was threatened by Elizabeth in person & long distance by Curtis’ adoptive mother. I found out many years later that Curtis, who was renamed Noah when his adoption was completed, was coached to not want anything to do with me at all when he became “ of age”, so I never got to see him again when he turned 18. He reached out to us only because he wanted a relationship with his sister. He was raised with parents & a brother, who was also adopted, so Noah had no interest in forming a bond with me or his half brother. Through talking with his sister, my daughter, he learned the “other side” of the tale of his adoption enough that he wanted to hear it from me. Though I made it completely clear to him right from the very first that I had no intention of harming the relationship with his adoptive family, the information that I gave him did indeed start the damage to their bond, which his mother further damaged by things that she said & did in the following years. About 10 yrs ago Noah came to live with us for a little under two years at his mother’s suggestions of spending Christmas with his “other family”. He has come for a visit a couple of times since then &, in the 13 - 14 years since he came back into our lives, even called me mom a few times, both behind my back when talking with Chris as well as directly to me, as well as introduce me to others as “my birth mom”.
Back in those people really were cold and cruel.How could you just give away your newborn to totally strangers ?.Those poor young girls.And the babies growing up to be adults not knowing who they are or where they came from.My mother had me when she was 16 years old I have yet to meet my biological father, but we sometimes speak on the phone, I am from the The Bahamas and he lives in Pittsbutgh.I was sent to another Bahamian Island for mh mother's aunt to raise me cause she was the only family member that was a housewife and had time for a baby. We were all family so I knew who I was.I came bk to live with my grandmother at 11 years old.Always knew my mother but never lived with her phsically.
@@eastender1862 The parents might have done what they really felt was better for their daughter at the time. She would have been ostracized not just by the church but by just about everyone in that town as well as dealing with the challenge of raising a child as a single mother at a young age, and the father a rapist, etc. Not the best situation for a young woman.
What a strikrnly handsome man and he looks a lot like his mother, and what a nice sister to do this. I was adopted as well and I have recently gotten in touch with my siblings. It is wonderful! Congrats for meeting your family. God be with you all.
the thought of giving your children up for adoption is heartless and incompassionate God doesn't place a baby in your life with provision .wether youthful ignorance or what the fact remains that when that person grows up they want to know ,who are their parents.that's basic human instinct .my mother had 16pregnancies with only 5 of us alive .
Imagine, as a product of a rape, this mother chose life for her son, if she aborted, this son would have been snuffednout as well as his descendants.

I have the same issue..I tried to call my dad and grandmother..they hung up on me and when I reached out to cousins they said we can't talk to you..tour nit really our cousin..it's sad because you only want to know where u come from and nothing more..at least my mom's side where happy to meet me

My son’s Friend was adopted and he never ever wanted to look for his birth parents and said his Mama and Daddy that raised him WERE his parents but his adopted sister wanted to look for her parents.

How sweet this story is. My Grandmother used to tell me stories about girls getting pregnant that you knew and were friends with and how they were sent to special houses for teenage pregnant girls to stay and then would be sent back home after having their newborns. They never even got to see their newborns because she he doctor said it wasn’t a good idea at the time. Basically they forced them into giving* up their babies for adoption. It’s so very sad but this story had a very happy ending. How wonderful!

@@tedmccarron Exactly Ted, I don't think anyone thought about that. In consideration of her feelings, I probably would have been a little apprehensive about hugging her too tight knowing that my father was a mad dog rapist because I would not want her to have to secretly relive that that horrible experience through my hugs. Therefore I would have approached with caution, then hugged and kissed her lightly.
@@mlanae20 I think another good option would have been for him to hug her like you did but also to say "I love you" while he did it. That would definitely distinguish him from the rapist in her mind psychologically.
@@mlanae20 after looking at this video a second time I noticed that the mother was the one who initiated a kiss with him and I also noticed that she wanted to keep him when she was a teenager but her mother wouldn't let her. That's nice to know and she was definitely glad to see him despite the circumstances.

Aw, how wonderful for the whole family! I'm going through tissues here like nobody's business. What is so terrible, is that rapists got away with their crime because it was more important to hide the shame. How can a raped girl and an innocent baby be a shame? And these people called themselves devout Christians? What pain that girl went through! Raped, being pregnant, being a shameful person to her family, giving birth, never holding or even seeing her baby boy, moving areas through shame. Awful, awful, awful! And those were the good old days.......

I have an older brother and only a bit of information about him and his mother. I also asked my dad's family and nobody say anything, so I tried to ask a couple of his friends. They didn't know either. My mom told me my oldest boy had the "family tree" project and my mom told my son about the oldest brother and I found her name and her maiden name. My dad passed away about 17 yrs. ago. My ma can't remember what exactly she said, so try to remember what all my son told me. I wish I could find him, but I don't have the funds for such work. I has been bothering me...at a loss.

this is fntastic how the son & mother have reunited. I know of other woman who gave up their baby because their parents wouldnt allow them to keep it. These women live in agony not knowing where their child is & not ever seeing them again.

I found my biological father after 62 yrs.. and he didn't want to meet me he's 86 yrs old..lives in Alabama u.s.a...I'm 62yrs old & live in England. I was conceived in the 50s. He came to England with the u.s army..his grown-up kids won't talk to me..I'm so sad..guess one can't miss what one never had.. I wish he would contact me..waiting in vain..🇬🇧🇺🇸

Unfortunately, that's the ugly truth that causes much suffering. A couple, looking to gratify themselves, brings suffering to innocent life. It's irresponsible, but unfortunately reality. One time I asked my mom if my father was really my birth father. I just couldn’t imagine a “real” father being so mean to his kids. I carry that shame every day of my life.

His mother was recorded as Native American on the adoption papers. He was probably giving up because of the 'rape'.

Jesus, all those years and no news. Can't stop crying. So many choose to go NO CONTACT with their mom - totally ungrateful and not caring to talk matters out. How assinine to waste years. This man and his mum KNOW the heartache and specialness of family. They followed their heart AND NEVER GAVE UP to find each other. 💞
A very touching story. So glad he was able to break down those walls. I myself was adopted my two wonderful people. When my mom and dad past away I started to look. NY adopted was sealed but I did as several years of looking I find her. She had past away but the story gets harder she also was adopted. I finally find her mother and my mother's grandparents which were all gone too. My story ended sorry but I did wouldn't change a thing my parents were the best. I wished I could have known my mother tho.

She loved you so much, she gave you a future she couldn't provide. Through her selfless gift you found a loving family. I hope you have had a wonderful life. It sounds like you did but had those, but who do I look like questions. Those can still be answered with dna.

It's a free open service but you're giving the FBI your DNA data. Doesn't bother me but some ppl seem genuinely bothered by the notion and that isn't mentioned anywhere; unless you're paying attention to the news.)

@@heather4089 you cannot know the love it takes to give up a piece of your soul for their sake. It's a genuinely selfless act and should never be looked down on nor questioned. The reason is always the same: the mom wanted a life for her baby, she saw her child's future with her and that future wasn't good enough. Her baby deserved better than she could provide and she was determined enough to make it happen.
I can't say what future would be better for any baby, nobody can. I can say that any momma who comes to the decision should be hugged, congratulated, listened to and helped.
Same to be said for women who choose abortion. We don't talk about it. But it's not a trip to Disney and she shouldn't suffer any more for taking control of her life.
Because no matter what we're damned. Have the kid and ppl will comment about world population being out of control and you contributing to it by having a child. Get an abortion you're a murderer. Give them up for adoption, you abandoned them so you could go have fun instead of own up to your responsibilities. Doesn't matter the truth, people have their hateful opinions. People see it the way they want.

They were hard times in these days. My grandmother put her two children aged 4 & 6 into the Blue Coats Orphanage. She was a widow. They she married my grandfather, had two more children. My dad never knew about his older half brother and sister. I found them in 2017 via Ancestry.com.au. Great uncle and great aunt had already passed, but I met my cousin now aged in her 80’s when I went to the UK 2018.
Girl at church gave up baby conceived same day because she said church people gossip.
