This is very interesting and well done. My supervisor at the place I worked at in Burbank, had bought a house there, so I had known it's existence, but not the history of the City.
I grew up in this town as a kid. Only thing we had in town to do was the Pizza factory arcade, and ice cream at rite aid. I live in Michigan now but have always missed this place. Both of my Grandparents are buried in the cemetery on the north east side of town.
So I've been watching these videos about California City, but I noticed that no one talks about how Eric Estrada aka Ponch from CHiPs made commercials in the 80's to mid/late 90's telling people to buy cheap land up in California City. I remember those commercials were pretty cheesy too.
This is awesome. I like the qay you filmed the intro. I liked that the shots at the start were too short to look around properly which made me want to look more intently at the following shots to me sense of it. The black out then zoom out from the city sign with that song was awesome. You're clearly a creative dude. Awesome channel, subbed, carry on!
The fact they thought they could build a major city with out a Port, Airport, Major import/export, or even a tourist attraction is what boggles me. How was this even thought was a good idea. It' the middle of the desert with no actual income for the city? What's it say that their largest employer is a PRIVATE Prison. That is about as American as you can get.
Lived there from 2009 to 2017, place is a real S-hole. City government has serious financial problems. They still owe Van Prey’s kids millions in back pay for land they purchased. Someone broke into my house and they were held at gun point for over an hour. Crime is ramped and the people who have lived there for years are paying the price.
@@jackieattackie101 No not just that. I've seen so many other videos on different channel talking about Cal City. Usually just the size and that fact it never grew. Well it goes up and down This missing kids is new. Are they still Missing??
@@austindreher2791 unfortunately yes :( I’ve been following the case closely. They think the boys actually didn’t make it to California City now - the family is new to the area. I also did some digging and looks like there is a podcast on it too!
@@jackieattackie101 WOW . Most older residence ( not just for n age) that lived in Cal City for years are usually very noisy about new risidence. In my experience anyway. My Mom moved to Cal City when she was 12. She said people watched the move in and later Hi. But my Grandparents had a restaurant there at the time. I was born in Lancaster and lived in Cal City til I was 8 and my brother was 17. Anyway there were a couple people killed . There's no where trust is completely safe. But it's sad about the kids. So they didn't make to Cal City. So the parents thought they could get away with someone. Poor kids. Thats Horrible
It sounds like a perfect place for people that live on the internet and make their money online. The problem is with desert living. It is an acquired taste and people are slow to change their mentality from the flashing lights of Broadway no matter what large city. There are a lot of people in inyokern and other surrounding communities that love the desert lifestyle. They like the Heat and the dry and there's people that could live there but moved to Arizona to breathe better. I think the Chamber of Commerce needs to kick it into high gear and promote their City to people with lung problems and health problems. They already have 14,000 people and that's not bad for a small town and there's plenty of room for expansion obviously. The problem with most population is it expands out of the city's very slowly there will come a time when California city is at that limit. Right now everybody is going crazy over Lancaster Palmdale and Victorville Adelanto Silverlake spend Other Desert communities. It just hasn't reached California City yet. I'll bet if you watch it real close you might want to invest next to where the population is in California City you might have a good investment. I know somebody who bought property between Lancaster and Rosamond California still waiting for people to get there. Investment speculation is a b****
It already Was that city. California city planned to upstage LA. The issue is the design. They designed a Levittown and nothing more. They added no downtown core, no freeway network to reach the city center, nothing but rows of 1950s suburban street designs. Those layouts now super dated by todays standards wouldnt work for how we build suburbia now. And no useful infrastructure
Great potential housing and business development for people facing homelessness: A planned community offering full social services - with a goal of self-sustainability and growth. Garcetti, Newsom & others should seriously put that idea on the table. At least there won't be "NIMH" mentality, because what's out there right now is pretty much one giant meth lab. Actual opportunity might make all that go away. Imagine the construction boom, and jobs, if inexpensive, but solid, housing & business units were built specifically for the homeless.

i remember driving to for a job interview in California City several years ago and I was like, wtf is this place and why is it called a city
The shots in the beggining felt like a fever dream.

You live in Michigan? Sorry to hear that.

Good to know. I was considering purchasing a parcel there to build a small home for weekend trips away from OC 🤔
it's too bad the cleared areas were left in place since for small animals it's undesirable to move in the open. So habitat is divided.
Did Mike Tysons ranch ever get started? I haven’t heard much and anything going on there now.
What is with all the interest in my hometown??

Why did people stop being interested by 1960 ???
Probably because no one wanted to move into the barren desert.

But Instead Los Angeles took the crown to become that City California city wanted to become.
Let's hope it NEVER becomes like L.A.

No water.
Plenty of water. California City sits on top of a massive underground lake.

HATE the intro! yuck! can't watch such nonsense.
You must be fun at parties. No one is forcing you to watch the video.
Ghetto city
Why?
