After a lifetime of working for a company that wasn't mine, counting on benefits I would never receive, I would advise anyone to go where their heart is. That's where you would be your best and be the happiest. That's providing you see your way clear financially. If UA-cam is your choice the 40 hour investment per week may wind up being a whole lot more. What the heck! Whatever you choose to do and it fails, you can always work again for someone else. At least you tried it! Just my opinion.
Totally agree. You could treat it like a career break. If it works then awesome! If not then you have your background to fall back on. Like everything it takes time and commitment for anything to work.
I 100% would! I love UA-cam. I miss riding and editing and all that stuff right now being a school. It’s not work if you love what you do! The upside of being at school is when I come back to UA-cam then I will have a lot my video content that’s not just riding.. keep up the great videos brother and be safe! 🤘🏻
I gotta think after awhile, doing youtube full-time it would start to become like any other job. However, being able to take a hobby and turn it into a way to make a good income would be pretty cool. I have seen some of the bigger channels I watch start hiring someone to film and edit for them. That would take some of the pressure off.
I'll love to do UA-cam full time. I was daydreaming about having enough money to support a group of motovloggers like paying travel vloggers travel expenses and having a team so we can make a show together.
Doing UA-cam for a career would be interesting. I currently put in close to 40 hours a week in with my channel putting out a weekly video as a hobby. So having said that, between my real job, UA-cam, teaching motorcycle BRC classes and being a Road Captain...I'm putting in a ton of hours every week. If I dedicated all that time to a UA-cam career, perhaps it would pay off monetarily. But then again, after a while it may turn into a grind. Ride safe and enjoy the ride. 👊👍🇺🇸
I am not sure if I would be able to do UA-cam for 40 hours a week. But if there was a job involving riding/testing motorcycles and accessories that paid the same as my full time job. I would probably love to do it. As for my channel. I will always view it as a fun hobby.
Creating, editing and producing videos are a great hobby !!! Love it ! But I don’t know if I could do it as a career because then it turns into a 4 letter word …. Work.
great chasing Chopper!!! im trying every day to make one of my hair brain ideas to make money not a worry anymore so we could just live life. enjoy the weekend when you get there and being that its my monday ill be slaving nights till monday hahah. i did just get some mega millions tickets for the 630 mil jackpot so come on numbers ;-)
Nope...I really like vlogging on YT, and yes we want our channel to grow, but if I would get paid for it replacing my regular income, then I don't think I would be very happy. Because then it becomes job that I must do to support my family. I do this because I reeeely like it.. But the main reason is...What happens to my income when/if YT have a major glitch in its system and is shut down for a considerable amount of time. Now I'm stuck trying to find another job. As much as I like technology, I wouldn't want any job that is highly depending on computers for my income. On the other hand ...cut the 40hrs to 20hrs a week, then I would consider it.
I like motovlogging as a hobby, for fun. But in an alternative universe, I don't think I would mind doing it full time. Also, can I do 30 hours of riding and 10 of editing 😆 Good video Brett!
I work 45-50 hours a week now, at a job that I don’t enjoy as much as I once did. My true enjoyment is riding a motorcycle, and traveling a bit. I enjoy the editing process, and if I had more time, I’d like to think I would get better at it. Could I do it because I had to?? Not sure. As soon as whatever I do becomes necessary, it becomes a job. Once it becomes a job, I think a lot of the enjoyment would go away. I have nearly reached my employment goal now. I want to have a decent income, with no obligation to be anywhere at a certain time. I want to control what I do, and when I do it. I don’t need long, exotic vacations, just some time with my wife, at home, or trips to visit places we’ve never been. In other words, retirement!!! Almost there😊😊😊😊
Enjoyed listening to you. Have to say that I mostly agree with your thoughts. For sure YT is not an easy "a couple of hours" job. It is a lot more than this. Thanks for sharing this bro and keep up.
Not for me lol 😂 It sounds like too much time in an office behind a computer. That’s a nice way to look at things as far as view go. 10 percent? Ride 20 / edit 20 let’s go Brett 🤘💪🔥😂
Doodle is "full-time" and last I talked to her she was putting 20-30 hours into it. I would most likely do it. It would open so many doors for me to be able to do different types of videos and stuff.
At this moment I would love to do UA-cam successfully for 40hrs a week, nothing saying it all has to be one type of content. I'd love to just work 40hrs a week really lol. Getting closer to 40 by the day and I feel the same way man. I haven't found a job that I really want to do forever. I loved machining, but the hours involved have caused some hardcore burnout.
I'd be a full-time UA-camr in a SECOND, if it were fiscally feasible. I love coming up with ideas to record, recording, editing, and the other YT-related stuff. The engagement with viewers, and seeing it grow is fantastic for me! Part of the 40 hours is riding my motorcycle, right? Count me in! Your ratio of subs:viewers is higher than mine, that's for sure... "fail badly" for me is 29 views on a vid I put out last week LOL.
I would absolutely do it. With a full work-week of time at my disposal to invest in my channel, I think I could easily keep myself excited and feeling fulfilled. The hardest part of UA-cam, at least for me anyway, is fitting it around everything else I have going on. There is nothing worse than having an idea that you get super excited about and then have to abandon it because you know it would require far more time and energy than you have available. I'm also at th point now where I'm just downright tired of working for other people. The prospect of walking away and being a full time UA-camr is sweet music to my ears at this very moment 🤣
I think for me it'd be a combo, I'd love to have like a bike dealership where I just buy in bikes, fix them up a bit and sell them on, all while making the videos I currently do as well. That'd be really cool. Between riding and editing and photos and thumbnails and comments etc etc I'd say I easily put n 30+ hours a week already anyway so it wouldn't be that much more :P Great question and a difficult one to answer really....you have me thinking :P I think absolute end goal it'd be awesome to own enough motorcycles to tour with a group of people on, whether they'd rent them off me or just friends came with me on trips that the channel would cover the costs of fuel etc. That'd also be pretty amazing!! :)
Making UA-cam as a career, hmm, I'm not sure if I would. Coming from someone that works in IT, that was my hobby 20 years ago which today ended up turning into my career. I feel like when you turn your hobby and something you enjoy doing into a stable 9 to 5 schedule, it eventually takes the fun out of it and no longer becomes a fun hobby, you have the convenience of participating in . When you walk away from a regular job and are solely dependent on your channel or YT as a sole source of income, it all becomes a different perspective. If I was younger and wasn't married, didn't have a family and had less responsibility I may of attempted it, but the place I am in my life right now, I need that stability.
Also if you think about it YT is technically a sales position. Your trying to sell your channel for gaining subs and watch hours. I've never been a salesmen and would probably make a terrible one at that, lol.
I'm afraid the fun of what I'm doing now would quickly diminish, since it would become a requirement, a have to or else kind of deal. I still want to be an astronaut....always have since I was a kid...but that ship sailed a long time ago 😆
I've asked myself this question a lot over the past year. I enjoy making motovlogs on UA-cam, but I have no interest in putting in the effort required to become a "BIG" channel. Meaning I love motovlogging as a hobby, NOT a career. So if I could choose any career what would I pick? I don't know the answer to that yet, but I don't think it's UA-cam for me, lol!
I would love to. I miss working my channel, day job and getting out on the road has got in my way. Our travel kicks off next week and we have talked about my wife kicking things back up. Maybe making it her full time job. Would take me a long time to make my current pay. I would love to be independently wealthy however never see that job posted.
Don't think I would make this a full time gig. I have enough trouble coming up with content as it is, can't imagine having to constantly feel the pressure to create a new video even once a week. Right now its a hobby, if I don't publish a video its not the end of the world.
Ah, heck yeah....doing this for a living sounds like fun, but I don't think that's very realistic...sure UA-cam as a job would be fun. I would love to give it a try! I wish I had 10% views...some videos do, but most don't. Heck yeah, you would! Come on, dude! 😀
If I made what I made right now I'd still have to pick up a side gig, so it wouldn't work. I'm 47 and still don't know what I want to do for a living. I've always been a daydreamer and out of that comes creativity. I've written over 1000 poems, a few short stories, etc., none of which I've had the time or leverage / contacts to try to get published. I'd love to do something creative and I love people for the most part, but there aren't many careers for professional daydreamers who aren't intrinsically wealthy. I spend a ton of time playing, analysing, and thinking about music. I do love riding and I do love talking in the helmet, so I suppose I'll keep doing that in my own super simple, non-professional way. If I only had 10 subs but they dig what I do then I can live with that. I don't know. For me it's an impossible question to answer definitively! Ideally, I'd have a career where I write and edit my poetry, write and play music, ride and talk into my helmet day in and day out.
As they say, when you do something you love it never really becomes a job. I spend 6 months a year at home and probably ride my bike 80% of that time so yeah i could do it full time as I enjoy it. Realistically though, you wouldn't be able to survive of the UA-cam ad sense, you would have to diversify and almost turn yourself into a product like many of the other channels have done. They do get criticized for this however, but its their career. Good chat man.
Thanks G! Yea the diversify part would be where it gets tricky. I can say I don’t watch the big channels much anymore, it’s more showcasing their business than what made them what they are, but to each their own. They makin bank on their content, I’m not lol
I couldn't do UA-cam as a job. The riding part sure. (this coming from a guy with a garage full of bikes who doesn't seem to ride anymore - 2022, not a great year for me) If money was unlimited I'd have to have a camera and editing crew. I can't even seem to do UA-cam as a hobby right now...
To be honest, I'd have to make enough money to pay an editor....I'm not a fan of editing...my last video I didn't even bother...haha. I do enjoy making videos though, just riding and thinking of things to do the bike, now to convince my wife I need another one for content will be tough...haha
I think that I could do it, If I could make the income, as then the reward is there to fund the silly things I would be doing to create the content and Yes - your 50/50 split would be reasonable.
After a lifetime of working for a company that wasn't mine, counting on benefits I would never receive, I would advise anyone to go where their heart is. That's where you would be your best and be the happiest. That's providing you see your way clear financially. That there might be the best advice I’ve heard. Gonna pin this comment.
Totally agree. You could treat it like a career break. If it works then awesome! If not then you have your background to fall back on. Like everything it takes time and commitment for anything to work.
Agree if I could ride as part of it
I might actually find time to ride hahah
100% agree!! I would do this full time only and I do mean only if I could count the riding portion towards my hours!
Need to find a job to just get paid to ride lol.
I 100% would! I love UA-cam. I miss riding and editing and all that stuff right now being a school. It’s not work if you love what you do! The upside of being at school is when I come back to UA-cam then I will have a lot my video content that’s not just riding.. keep up the great videos brother and be safe! 🤘🏻
Can’t wait to see the other stuff too buddy
I would do it full-time, but I think eventually it would become just another job and something I had to do, but I would 100%
Yea that is always the risk we would run into lol
I gotta think after awhile, doing youtube full-time it would start to become like any other job. However, being able to take a hobby and turn it into a way to make a good income would be pretty cool. I have seen some of the bigger channels I watch start hiring someone to film and edit for them. That would take some of the pressure off.
That would take a ton of pressure off but then I feel like it loses a little of the creative soul it took to get there
I'll love to do UA-cam full time. I was daydreaming about having enough money to support a group of motovloggers like paying travel vloggers travel expenses and having a team so we can make a show together.

Yea it’s crazy how the time adds up just for a singular video huh? Ride safe as well brother.

As for my channel. I will always view it as a fun hobby.
Now that’s the dream job brother lol
I personally would not like to do UA-cam full-time. I think it would take the hobby out of it. That to me would make it work versus fun.
Good perspective there!
In a heartbeat, if it included riding editing and travelling full time 100%
As great as your travels are I can only imagine what you would come up with.
Creating, editing and producing videos are a great hobby !!!
Love it !
But I don’t know if I could do it as a career because then it turns into a 4 letter word …. Work.
Don’t we all just love work!!!

I got three tickets and zero numbers. Guess it’s to work I go on Monday
im right there with you brother hahaha. ill take my vice. enjoy the weekend Chopper .
I wouldn't. I ride motorcycles and make the videos I do, to escape. I don't want to turn the things I enjoy into work.
I hear ya there. Worst thing would be to dread a motorcycle ride

Very great points to consider there! Y’all could make a Netflix show out of your travels!!!
I like motovlogging as a hobby, for fun. But in an alternative universe, I don't think I would mind doing it full time. Also, can I do 30 hours of riding and 10 of editing 😆
Good video Brett!
39 hours of riding and lackluster videos with one hour of editing sounds good to me
I work 45-50 hours a week now, at a job that I don’t enjoy as much as I once did. My true enjoyment is riding a motorcycle, and traveling a bit. Yes, like you say yourself, if the filming was part of that working week, definitely. Tours and sight seeing, and I wouldn’t mind some overtime 🙂
Hahahaha getting paid more YES!!!!
I don’t think I will ever go full time but I’d only do it if I could travel full time and pay for it.
Haha that’d be a nice perk!!!
At this moment I would love to do UA-cam successfully for 40hrs a week, nothing saying it all has to be one type of content. I'd love to just work 40hrs a week really lol.
