I only string my guitars with barbed wire. Best tone, cheap as chips and reminds me that pain is all too real.
I have a trip mine wire rigged across every string. I think I'll try your method as well.
Filthy Pete the Internet Peasant i use suspended bridge cables to get the dj0nt
I rig mine up to the AC mains. I love the smell of burning SG in the morning
Filthy Pete the Internet Peasant The elastic bands are my type.
Gives me a really soft tone
Filthy Pete the Internet Peasant I like to restring my guitar with the lining of pig intestines just like the stuff sausages are incased in, I like the real organic tone it gives
I was wincing the whole time Paul was trying to break the string.. It's like that feeling you get when deep frying, throw it in and run for cover.
Dustin Platt 😂😂😂
Yes, one must be carefull cause it can be dangerous for the eyes.
@@andrewlevistermma I'm sure Paul would appreciate that reference. XD
@@andrewlevistermma its been 2 more
Paul just seems like one of those people that's so not full of himself that you could hang out with him all day and he's just a regular guy. Cool dude.
He’s so chill and humble that I almost forgot that he was Paul effing Gilbert
Pauls name is in the list...
he deserves it..... but maroon 5 for guitar strings .....
The guitarist is really good, actually. Everyone else is debatable.
Alexander Eddy what the heck are you talking about? Clapton and Page debatable?
@@bobbyvanvleuten663 dummy
@@bobbyvanvleuten663 Yeah, you missed his point entirely. He meant that the other members of Maroon 5 are debatable as musicians. Not the other guitarists on the list.
Maroon 5 sucks. Paul doesn't.
Everytime I see Paul, he just seems like a such a chill down to earth dude. It's nice to see this in our crazy industry. Gotta check out these new strings.
Just realized PG has hearing aids now. I'm glad to see. Apparently he was near deaf. Don't crank the headphones people, and don't stand in front of Marshall cabinets.
Paul Gilbert with the Captain. This is my dream come true! I have actually had dreams about this for so long. PLEASE more! Thank you!
I need another 8 hours 50 minutes of Paul Gilbert and The Captain video..
One of the best Andertons video ever. It contains 5 seconds of actual playing time but was 10mins of pure entertainment...Ernie Ball make great products. Paul Gilbert is a legend in his own lunchtime, brilliant !!
You don't need strings if all your tone is in your fingers.
Hank Hill Who needs a guitar anyway?
Don't forget the tone wood! :)
will it survive the propane test.
Will it blend???
Amateurs. I play directly to the amp, with my fingers on cable tip.
What kind of Ninja technique is this one?? 6:17
one of the best 10 minutes and 20 seconds I have ever had on UA-cam.
It's so awesome to see Lee with Paul doing videos :)
Matúš Krška their duo is the lee paul
Awesome test, would love to see a guitar string comparison between different brands. I'm a huge supporter of Elixir Polyweb strings, best guitar strings in the world in my opinion! Super durability, they don't get dirty easily and they can handle me doing crazy bends and playing super aggressively. I tried Ernie Ball, D'Addario etc. and they gave out a lot earlier than Elixir strings.
The Captain is such a good interviewer, holy shit.
I had to turn the volume off and just watch - after 30 years of playing guitar, that 'higher...higher...higher..." sound raises my blood pressure.
Years ago.....32 years to be exact, i started playing guitar. I tried all that were available....there are other good brands.....but everytime i put on a set of Slinkys, and with the first strum.....that zing! That wonderful, bright and full zing! I now love the Cobalts, Paradigm, and of course, the classic Slinkys.
That face you make when you know that if you tune a string a little bit more is gonna pop.
so these will let me tune my E string to Bb (which I'd never do) instead of A (which I'd never do)
awesome
abnzg I guess it's handy if you have a floyd, but at that price...
*Big bends and vibrato have entered the chat*
Stephen j the tone must be so dead
only paul gilbert would come to andertons in bright red sweat pants
Cargo pants. I think it's his stage gear.
At least it's not a space suit :P
Nice to see that he is also a normal guy with a sense of humour!
He's dressed like a kids TV presenter haha!
Don't forget the black boots.
Awesome.. good job getting Paul Gilbert, rockon
yesssssss this was awesome make more!
Capitan!!!!! geniooooo!!! mas genio aun con el animal de Paul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eternamente agradecido de todo lo que comparten!! saludos desde Argentina!
AKA The heart attack test
Philip McKnight did a test like this a while ago with all kinds of strings. Most also went to A and NYXLs did A#. So I'd say in that regard those two are even.
Gotcha link to that video ? I was just sharing this video on Facebook group and said I wonder how my fav string the NYXL would compare
U guys are the best
I need to give these a try, I've been using D'addario NY XLs and they have been awesome but every once in a while its cool to try some new string sets :)
That purple fireman is amazing
I really enjoyed that
excelente video !!!👍👍👍
I'm literally in bed wincing as he's cranking up the pitch.
We wanna see a blind test between the Paradigm, Optiweb, Nanoweb, etc!
I love this video
I started out with Ernie Balls and they're fine for standard tunings and stuff like that. I admit I haven't tried these ones though. But since I play a whole step down and in lower tunings, I've always loved D'Addario(regulars or NYXL) for metal music because they just sound brighter. I want that cut for lower tunings, so I can't remember the last time I played anything other than D'Addario.
I love these strings unbreakible and great tone i can make my guitar scream n i absolutely love theses strings
Even paul knows that the bird is the word
Watching that string go higher than E was worse than skydiving with no parachute
Ernie ball hybrid slinkies for life!!! Im gonna try out the hybrid paradigm's now. I dont suffer from string breaks often but a stronger string may give me better tone? Who knows worth a try for sure. Thanks guys!!
PG is such a cool guy. I can't say I care for his playing style much but I like him as a person.
Ahhh, that A4. Darnit, would've loved to see that going there and stay there 😁
Nice ! Awsome!
Ernie Ball for life!
5:35 Hold onto you wives, DANISH PETE CAMEO
I played that same Fireman later that day, felt the power.
I legit lol'd when Paul said
*the bird is the word*
3:38 Don't feel bad Lee, Paul probably didn't hear a word you said as he was turned away from you. His hearing really is on its last legs ;
NowakP the next Beethoven
NowakP You mean Paul had not heard? It was my understanding that everyone had heard..
He has said in a few interviews he is losing his hearing. Guess you have seen him playing live with a huge set of red headphones, he is trying to protect the hearing he has left
faisal merican heard what exactly...
True about his hearing, though of late he said he's stopped wearing the isolation headphones. Don't recall his reasoning off-hand.
I'll be trying a set
Ultimate down to earth guy.
Paul is just so cool! Great guest! Loved the videos!😅
Paul is so cool!
7:43 I've discovered Paul's secret technique: Doing vibrato with your head.
I've been using Ernies since day one.....I did switch to Goretex for a bit...but changed back....been using the Cobalt strings...anything E.B. and I'm a happy guitar player!
All-round good guy, he is.
Yes please do a corrosion test!
I can only play one brand, that lasts me longer then a week, Elixir nanowebs, but they are
hard to play, the tension makes it heavy to bend.
Been an EB user since forever and my G always snaps first. Recently bought a Strandberg that has what I believe are either GHS strings or D’Addrio NYXLs, I’m now a convert.
6:17 ah the way he untangles the string...
I used elixir .10s on my strat for 8 straight months. at the end of 8th month, high e broke while bent. Elixirs are also very strong
I use Ernie Ball strings, and I break them at 80% of my practices. I just bought the Paradigm (11s). Fingers crossed they hold up.
There would be a Sergio Garcia TaylorMade ad right before this video.
Makes both perfect and imperfect sense.
i think i might give these new strings a shot. I've never played Ernie Ball since 1999. They rusted out on me in 2 weeks and they've been the only brand i've ever broken a string on.
his test makes my skin crawl just waiting for the string to pop
I've never been this scared of a guitar string breaking 😂😂😂 just bought these love the sound
Another awesome guitar god.
8:26 THEY LIED! PARADIGMS DO BREAK!
LET'S RIOT
LET'S START A RIOT
-puts on "Riot" by Three Days Grace-
William Allison a Quiet Riot.
See what I did there?
No Name sm57
Riot by Dead Kennedys?
such fun!, love this video, paul is a lovely man🌞
Paradigm’s literally stay smooth forever! Also, I have yet to bust a string while playing with these. Broken many with slinky
ive been an earnyball user for 15yrs
I use a tremolo (whammy bar) a lot and have broken many strings. Out of all of them Fender strings have been the worst breaking after a week. Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings have been more towards the middle of the scale breaking after a month. The best strings that I have ever tried are DR Dimebag strings. I have put those through hell doing bends, dive bombs, pulling sharp (my guitar is routed out so the Floyd Rose has a lot of travel), etc.... Despite that they tend to go around five or six months before breaking. DR makes great strings!
I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings on my guitar (Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster). Good strings!
Paul Gilbert is the official strings tester !
And amazing guitar player ( forgot mention he's a extremely good person) homework for egos guys.
Fender pure nickel 9's work nicely for me, have never broken one since i switched from d'addario
I've had a set of 11's on my Les Paul for a year now. I've slackened them off to clean the neck and strings but there's no corrosion. I'm determined to see how long they will stay bright, it's become a challenge. Same set of strings this time next year? Very possible by the looks of it.
The guy is one of the top guitar players of his time (I'd say more), and still sits there and restrings a guitar like a regular bloke...
Let's see your(ok mine too) guitar divas do THAT!!!!!
Paul Gilbert for President (Jeff Waters for Vice-President!!)
i was afraid it was gonna hit me lmao
Again: nicest virtuoso ever!
Paul is the best storytelling guitarrist ever
Captain what was your experience with the corrosion resistance of those strings? Please share with us. Are those comparable to Elixir Optiweb in terms of corrosion resistance?
This is the scariest video you've ever done :D
Peter Griffin = Paul Gilbert
B-B-B-Bird Bird Bird, Bird is the word
I'd really rater like to see this test with acustic strings!! I tend to play harder on acustic so they break essalily for me.
Does it take the same tension to break EarnyBall acustic strings?...
"Ernie Ball is the most unbreakable there is"
I've never found Ernie Ball strings that good. I used to switch between brands for years due to stock or 'just because' reasons, and Ernie Ball strings have never lasted much, hell, in one ocasion, i remember the E string breaking in around a week.
Nowadays i'd suggest D'addario or Rotosound. Love both, one is more durable, the other one just sounds great. Not many cases of broken strings with both brands. Elixir are awesome too. Mix of both.
Will try the paradigm, tho.
How is the captain so chill around Paul G...?
omg man Paul has some guts. This is every guitarist's nightmare!
I love Paul.
vektor would love these strings
well I have to see an ad about paradigm strings with Paul Gilbert to see an ad about paradigm strings with Paul Gilbert, interesting
ernie ball has been good to me i dunno what the others are saying. only the regular slinky ones though. I've recently tried the cobalt ones and they sound great but they hurt a little bit more imo. But the regular ones are great, they are the ones I'm most comfortable with so far but against that's just my opinion.
If you want a guarantee against corrosion and short string life, use a set of Elixir strings. I've had Elixir sets on some of my guitars for years, and they still sound great. They have a special coating that resists corrosion and that annoying "finger squeak" when you slide your fingers around. As a former Ernie Ball user who switched to Elixir, I swear by them.
yeah more please cptain!
Great video about strings. I can't quite work out though, if he uses a set of 9's usually, but it seems like it. And I can't help but be reminded of Billy Gibbons telling the story of how BB King asked him why he was struggling so hard with such heavy gauge strings? And then you hear Capt say he's going to 11's. Why the struggle?
Some people like the feeling of the strings pushing back a little.
Different gauges sound different. And Capt is using shorter scale guitars so the 11s on his Gibson feel closer to 10s on a Fender.
Lee, did you see what type of Pick Paul was playing? to me it looks like his white Ibanez signature pick, but form what I have read he hadn't been using those in a while and was using Dunlop Tortex picks ....
I never twist my high e tuner that many times while stringing up. Last one snapped on about the 5th turn of the knob 🤷♂️
I'm with Geldof on this.
i m on it baby
I literally clinched my entire body
I laughed so hard, I got the Kirk Hammett Ernie Ball ad before watching Gilbert 😂😂😂
One of the many things Ernie Ball does right, is easy packaging.
You open up the packet and inside are 6 envelopes with a string each, with the string gauge in giant font. You really have to be very drunk to screw that up.
A couple of weeks ago I wanted to restring my guitar with something fancier, so I got one of them d'addario cobalt coated jazz whatsathingies. Except inside the package the strings are bundled in two's, all together. You have to reference the packaging to really know what gauge each string is. And of course there is no standard for the colouring of these, so with bad lighting and a slightly inebriated state I fucked up and swapped the black with the purple beads, and the yellow and gold coloured ones. After figuring it out and attempting to take them off again, try to wrap the now curled wire back on another post, I was fed up, couldn't be bothered with it so I just put some wire cutters on them and placed my ernie ball backup pack. No dicking around and was done in 10 minutes.
I'm not saying that was anyones fault but my own, but I'll be damned if I ever buy another d'addario pack again. Keep it simple you idiots.
Also what are these people doing that they keep breaking their strings? The last time I broke my high-e was in 2009 or so, I only really replace strings when I need to clean my fretboard, which is once every 18 months or so. Just keep your nut and bridge lubed, make sure that there are no sharp edges on frets or tuners and strings will last a very long time.
Ahahahahah I kinda had the same feel 🤣
David Gilmour type bends are particularly risky tho . Ha .
Pff, been using Elixir for years. They last absolute eternity, and feel 'fresh' for quite a while. Never felt the need to restring in a few weeks time.
The bird is the word! 🤘
