The Monticello Railway Museum

This is the preview for a new DVD from Diverging Clear Productions looking at the Monticello Railway Museum in Monticello, Illinois. This program was primarily shot during Railroad Days in September, 2012, when four trains were in operation.

We ride aboard every locomotive and see the trains in action from trackside. We also get a glimpse of the museum as it was in 1986 when a different group of locomotives was in operation.
This program runs approximately 70 minutes.

It was a engine sent for display during Railroad Days. In years past they had sent the executive F units or the Southern Railway painted GP59. In 2012, the GP59 had been Repainted and the F units were unavailable. NS declined to send a heritage unit as well, and sent an ordinary diesel for display.

When anyone went there have you seen the A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company train car? I have also been on that locomotive

It would be great if they could connect with the existing Illinois Central iron which runs east of the museum and run their cars on it for awhile. Maybe connect in Champaign and run down to Charleston/Mattoon or further south. Wonder if they've ever tried that. Would also be nice if they could expand their own ROW. I read where there are a lot of old trolley and interurban ROWs in the general area. Maybe someday the museums like this will be pressed into service getting the country back in the trolley and interurban business as the need to replace fossil fuel vehicles becomes real.
