While I do scrap at 2 different yards for better prices, I prefer one yard over another by me simply because the guys are more friendly, helpful and always try to get the best price for my scrap.Merry Christmas and Happy new Year to all the scrappers out there!!
Good advice! The yard I go to is very close and they have always been a help to me when I wasn't sure how to separate at first. They showed me how to make my scrap more profitable for me.....and them. Another yard gave me the wrong vibe and they seemed unappreciative of my showing up. I haven't been there since!
Hi Tom, I am very fortunate to live in an area where my nearest scrapyard is run by a very efficient and welcoming team from entry to exit. Weighing is accurate and fair. Classification is no problem either though every mixed bucket is an education. If you don't take notice that's your problem. Docketing and payment is clear, fast and fair with the owner available to answer any questions professionally and amiably. They are a pleasure to work with.
HiTom, where as my local scrap yard is full of great helpful people. I think my biggest frustration is trying to sell extruded aluminum for extruded prices. Heat sinks off computers and such. I realize there may be a bundling issue on their side but It's still extruded aluminum
In my local scrap yard: Prices not posted Can't see weight of the scale Will just weigh in mixed loads for one price Will give you HMS price for clean aluminum if you don't look at your receipt. Nails and glass all over to puncture your tires. But it's the only yard.
Extremely frustrating things we are sure! With not a lot of options in the area you can utilize the iScrap App to locate yards that may be a little further- but they give more price transparency. Then you could travel once you save your non-ferrous up. Then you could sell low grade and heavy items like steel to your yard but you could tell them the grades before dumping.
The most frustrating thing for me by far is Letter head requirements. After 7 years having never scraped anything stolen. I've grown tired of the accusation that I'm a thief.
If you are in a different state and they don’t take the business license from another state and you really don’t get the business license price of a scrapper
In Arizona it's illegal for scrap yards to except stripped wire"bare bright",unless you have a electrical license.but yards will take your stripped wire as number 1.scrappers are being cheated,in my opinion

That's GREAT to hear! We are hoping that more and more yards follow that same suit. Thank for watching!
My local yard is good but can sometimes be a pain with contract pricing. Thats why I save the good stuff for a Rockaway trip. 1hr drive is worth it.
Thank you so much for the business and giving Rockaway Recycling a chance to earn it. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

I would contact your states regulation department.
Read this article before you do anything- it may help you understand their viewpoint better.

1% or less ruin it for the majority always.

That is frustrating, but finding yards in advance through the iScrap App should help you to find options!

Each state has different restrictions for sure.
