I’m still amazed that Shane went in that cold water. Lots of fun stop- bakery, unexpected hike to the sea caves. We had some cancellations but the alternatives were great.
It’s hard to beat northern WI in the summer/fall! I loved how you caught Shane doing the same foot thing on the wood planks… such fun. It sure looks like the apple harvest will be great this year. Thanks for sharing these fun days with us. Take care always.
Another beautiful adventure :) I love that despite the weather not cooperating you always make the best of it. An important lesson for any traveler. Hats off to Shane for the icy plunge! The caves were stunning. There is something about a forest growing up to big water that captures my heart. Adding this to my ever growing list
Thanks for the informational video on the Apostle Islands area. My family and I will be exploring Apostle Islands in 1 week and will certainly be hiking. My wife and I will be hiking North Cascades National Park later this summer. I’ve been following your channel and I saw that you posted a hike on the Maple Pass Loop. We want to do that one and the Cascade Pass and Sahale Arm Trail. Thanks for posting fun videos in our wonderful National Parks. My wife and I half been to over half and plan to get to them all in our lifetime.
Great comment, my fiend! Thanks for the kind words and thrilled to hear of your love for the Parks! You'll love Washington - you selected two classic hikes!
Noticed your shirt first. Very cool! Great job setting a wonderful example of friendship for your son. I wish I could have tasted the smoked fish. Thanks for describing it to us. Entertaining video as always. Blessings!
Blessed by your videos and commentaries. Shane has sure grown up from those two year pictures. Much of Wisconsin and Minnesota bordering Superior is very stress reducing. Thank you for sharing yourself, your family and your videos. Truly Americana! God Bless!!!
I didn't even realize the Apostle Islands existed. It was unknown to me that the Great Lakes had islands off the coast of Wisconsin. But all the land activities you ended up doing looked amazing. I really liked the little hike you did to the place called the bowl! That was really cool looking. Another awesome Americas Parks Adventure!
I appreciate this video a LOT. We are trying to plan a trip to Apostles Islands with our three young kids and while we hope to get to take our water taxi ride, we realize weather may say "no". All these neat side trips are great backup plans!
Your search for Mini Golf (Hayward, WI) brought back many memories from the 1980s with my parents & family… The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame and Lumberjack competitions and many summer days on the water near Hayward Wisconsin fishing for Musky. As always, thanks for sharing with us the adventures of your amazing family. Nice T-shirt & safe travels!
Like all the footage from 2010! Funny your son still doing the same thing walking on the deck like that lol That place is very beautiful what the contrast between the water and the rocks! Thanks for sharing!
I was impressed your son went completely underwater, twice! Lake Superior is cold! Fun watching your adventures unfold in the Apostle Islands/Bayfield area!
Props to the young man who dove right in Lake Superior! I'm connected to Bayfield like you can't believe, it takes a brave sole to dive head first! Great video! Come back and explore the islands, you'll never see so many stars!
Thanks again for sharing.!! I grew up in lannon, wisconsin 2 hrs. Away from chicago never went to apostle!!!.going to visit there when i visit my parents in wisconsin soon.
Nice, Christine! Definitely worth the trip up there. Think we visited some of the best land activities. Hope to return and hit the water/islands in the future. Have a great weekend!
Looks like a nice area--travelers make the best of all situations. Sometimes conditions just don't let us fulfill our plans...kind of like life. Great scripture shirt too!
Hello America's Park's😊😊, Randy, Julie and Shane...this was a GREAT video and really enjoyed it. Awful that your original plans didn't happen but you still found ways to enjoy beautiful northern Wisconsin. Hey Randy, can I steal Shane😊😊?? Really cool stuff with Shane jumping into Lake Superior. That fish looked really good. So now, when are we going to Rainbow Bridge, National Monument😊😊😊😊😊😊😊! Awesome video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍!
Those apples looked good to me too, ripe and ready for picking I think, great for making cider, my favourite drink. Well done to your son for going into the sea and yeah I bet it was cold, we live 30 miles from the North Sea and even in mid summer it is freezing. Nice food and some great old footage, shame about the cancelled kayaking trip but at least you got a good hike in, cheers Alan
Randy, it sure looks like Shane was having a good time at Lake Superior! You did a good job at finding a nice beach there. I agree with Julie, at least from the look of it, that smoked trout looks delicious. What a wonderful lakeshore. Those rock formations are beautiful. As always, the three of you make the best of it, no matter what the weather. THANK YOU FOR TAKING US ALONG, . . . Mike
Glad to see you got to the Apostle Islands, a favorite place. The island boat tours and ferry are much easier than the Isle Royale passage! 😊. Sorry about the kayaking, more Lake Superior fickleness. You look much improved. We are in the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan, a first time for us. Happy travels to you and family, be well!
Still looked like a fun day even though the kayaking was cancelled. We haven’t made our way to Northern Wisconsin but I have seen photos of the sea caves. They look incredible. I know they are also a popular attraction in winter and that you can visit them as ice caves, if conditions allow. Maybe a future trip idea? Man, I miss apple orchards. We moved down to NC three years and the closest orchards are located about four hours from us in the mountains. We grew up in Ohio and lived in Pittsburgh for 11 years . Orchards were all over the place. Definitely took them for granted.
Hey Michael, great words! Yeah, bummed about not getting on the lake, but thankfully the trail gave a view of the caves. Same here... exploring them in the winter (have seen the pics too) must be incredible!
Love the shirt! You'll have to go back to see the islands sometime. I definitely need to go back again too. My dad and I detoured to the Apostle Islands in May on a trip to Minnesota's North Shore. Stopped at a couple great state parks (Pattison and Amnicon Falls) in Wisconsin that took longer than planned, so we didn't have too much time in the area. We got our passport stamp at the visitor center and had just enough time to quickly stop at Hauser's and the nearby Wineries on Betzold Rd (enjoyed the location and the one wine I got to try) before boarding for the Grand Tour through Apostle Islands Cruises. We only saw the islands from the boat, but it was a great experience. I'd love to actually spend some time on one of the islands someday. We finished the day in Ashland where we ate at the Deep Water Grille. Delicious Lake Superior whitefish there!
Great words! We really enjoyed our time up there last summer. Agree! Need to get back and camp on an island and do some serious kayaking. Heard the place is pretty impressive in the winter with the frozen ice caves too. Glad to hear you noticed the shirt!!!
Loved today's video as we were in Bayfield on 10/1 for apple fest. We didn't go on the boat trip to the sea caves this trip; but have gone before. We would recommend it.
looks like a great time at the water even if the weather wasnt prefect. the Bowl sure was an awesome view. nice to return to a place after so long that is always fun, Roxana loved seeing tiny Shane too hahaha
Another great video. I've only have had the chance to go to Wisconsin twice so far, was Fort McCoy both times. Haven't had the the chance to get up there for an actual trip or hiking yet. I definitely need to, and Apostle Islands is definitely towards the top of my list. Oh, can't forget Bear Down!!
I was gonna hit this spot and camp on Madeline Island back in June, I think it ended up raining really bad so I headed straight to Michigan. After losing out on this and the sierra nevadas, I ended up hitting up 12 national park sites in 1 year. Mid October is when I started. Should have been more, but that is a pretty large amount for having hit only 1 in my lifetime other than when I was 2 years. Thanks for inspiring me to hit the national park sites. I think Apostle needs to happen next year for me when I do my yearly Michigan trip. Honestly, Sleeping Bear and Pictured Rocks can go up against alot of top notch national parks.
Good words, my friend! Hope you can back up that way... and I rank the two lakeshores you mentioned (imho) slightly over Apostle Islands. So happy for you and your memorable NP trip!
You guys hit all the cool spots on the main land! Great time together. My favorite is the sea caves, especially the bowl views! ☆☆☆☆☆ I'm taking 2 of those magnum ice creams also Randy 😆
Sounds like I'm taking Randy with me next time I go shopping with bargaining skills like that! I didn't really like fish as a kid either, but I love it now, and that smoked fish sounds great.
Those apples are not ready. The famer is right. Gotta wait on those. But they are going to be so good if you get them locally. Cold water. Wouldn't get in that water. But money is motivation. 🥶🏊♀️💸 That bakery food looks so good.
@@AmericasParks I'm sure, I've never been in that area but I've been at Sault St. Marie and Lake Superior is beautiful. I grew up in WI and as a kid we had smoked fish quite often, usually the shiny gold chubs or sturgeon. I can't remember the last time I had some.
Nice video. I have yet to get up into the great lakes areas. I just always end up deciding to go back west. I enjoy that you often include food aspects in your videos, buying from local vendors, etc. It's something I wish I did but I A: am still leery about filming those kinds of encounters, and B: I subsist WAY too much off of beef jerkey, rice crispy treats, and cola when I'm on the road.
Such a beautiful and pure area of our country. Yeah, really try to give the viewer the whole experience... and preserve as many memories for our family. Take care!
Randy and fam, I was on the cruise amongst the Apostles back in '19, but I didn't even know about the smoked fish place. So, I guess we're at a standoff. Did you hear during your time up there that Madeline Is. is the only one that's not part of the national lakeshore? Also, during my accumulation of now over 2000 oddly pronounced places in this country, I found that the island is not pronounced like the out-of-date girl's name MAD-uh-lin, but MAD-uh-lean. Who'd uh thought? I beat you out on this cruise, but you were able, as I remember, to go on the Pictured Rocks cruise in the UP, which I missed for the same reason you missed this--too late in the season, the weather gets too dangerous for boats that near the shore.
Hey Jim, interesting comment - learned something new! Yeah, was bummed about the cancellation, but thankful we were able to see the sea caves from the trail later in the day. Take care!
I don't know about cooking fish with brown sugar. I like fish and I love brown sugar but I don't think I'd like them together. I would give it a try though.
You can save a lot of money by smoking your own salmon. It's basically fish, brown sugar, salt and liquid smoke. I use a rusty old Big Chief smoker but most people smoke in an oven. Difficulty rating 2/10. Bawahwah @ "The apple fritters look like cheeseburgers".
I’m still amazed that Shane went in that cold water. Lots of fun stop- bakery, unexpected hike to the sea caves. We had some cancellations but the alternatives were great.
Absolutely! Still a memorable day!

Love your heart, my friend! Thanks for sharing that kindness with others!
Me and my wife just went on our one year wedding anniversary to the apostle islands your video helped us plan our trip thank you!
Thanks and congratulations on you first year of marriage! May both of you experience the true blessings on marriage for many more years as well!

Appreciate the kind words, Joe! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and it brought back some find memories! Have a blessed weekend!
I just drove through the entire state today, great fall colors, I love my home state
Great state! Went to college in Stevens Point for 2 years. So many great memories in WI myself!
Like all the footage from 2010! Funny your son still doing the same thing walking on the deck like that lol
That place is very beautiful what the contrast between the water and the rocks! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Nick! So nice to have that old footage for the memories. Time sure does pass quickly!
Love your shirt! Great message that really hits the nail on the head. Looks like a fun family trip!
Right on, Tyler! One of my favorite life verses!
It wouldn’t be an americasparks video without a dunk in cold water! Nice video!
Right on, Kayla! Shane is carrying on with the tradition! :)
I was impressed your son went completely underwater, twice! Lake Superior is cold! Fun watching your adventures unfold in the Apostle Islands/Bayfield area!
Yeah, amazing what a 12 year old will do for $5! lol! Fun times... and thanks for the encouragement!
Props to the young man who dove right in Lake Superior! I'm connected to Bayfield like you can't believe, it takes a brave sole to dive head first! Great video! Come back and explore the islands, you'll never see so many stars!
Thanks for the kinds words! I'll pass them on to my son. Yes, really hope to get back and spend more time at this incredible place. Beautiful area!
Great informational video. Thank You

Wise words, Jonathan! Have a blessed weekend!
So bummed we missed you but looks like you all had a fabulous time! Hope you make your way back to the Cheesehead State soon!
Appreciate the hospitality! Spent 2 years at UWSP in the mid-80's. WI is an amazing state!

Good words, Alan! Time sure does fly, my friend!
Beautiful place! I’d love to go here.
Need to get back and get on the water. Still, the mainland is pretty special!
One of my favorite places: Meyers Beach
Good taste my friend! Really enjoyed ourselves out there too.

looks like a great time at the water even if the weather wasnt prefect. the Bowl sure was an awesome view. nice to return to a place after so long that is always fun, Roxana loved seeing tiny Shane too hahaha
haha! They grow up too fast! :) Seemed like we were there with him a couple (not 11) years ago!

Bummer about the kayaking, but hey, God is so good!
Amen, Jason... good all the time, brother! :)
Boy playing water enjoy
So true! Something I myself still enjoy from time to time. Thanks for watching!

Good call on the ice cream! :) Yeah, the sea caves were the best!

Yeah, you guys probably have some outstanding smoked fish up in your neck of the woods! So delicious!
The bowl!
Right on! Thanks for watching!
I believe a US president spent ample time at Brule River. I can't remember which one, but it is a gorgeous area.
Didn't even make it to an island and had a great time up there!
I've been to Sleeping Bear and Pictured Rocks...have not been to Apostle.
Need to hit this one for the Nat'l Lakeshore hat trick!!
Those apples are not ready. The famer is right. Gotta wait on those. But they are going to be so good if you get them locally.
Cold water. Wouldn't get in that water. But money is motivation. 🥶🏊♀️💸
That bakery food looks so good.
Appreciate the feedback! So many good memories from that day. Enjoy your weekend!
The smoked fish looked awesome, I wonder how much it cost? I never heard of brown sugar smoked fish, I'd try it but it kinda sounds wrong. lol
haha! Can't recall the price, but it was reasonable. Something about eating that fish on the lake made it taste all the more better!

Is North Carolina to Wisconsin too far to go for some good food? 😅
thumbs up for the T shirt

Fun family trip. It was interesting with you. I will be glad to see you on my channel.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing the kind words!
And smoked fish!!!
So delicious!
Sorry the big Lake wasn’t kind to you. She’s kinda temperamental and cold 🥶
