Does the control arms being the best place to use to attach recovery gear to still apply to solid axles?

No. They solid axle is better to just hook around the axle so you have the mounts from all four control arms equally pulling pressure but typically solid axle. Vehicles have a frame and it would be better to pull off of the frame.
