I think we shouldn't try to translate it using the English translation. The only way to translate it is using the Japanese version. Also we should consider that the ancient text appears in more places than just alabasta, there is a book written in it in ohara. We also know what some of the poneglyphs are about, mainly the ancient weapons. Maybe there is a possibility to find out which symbol relates to which weapon and place It is hidden.

I wonder if those two symbols mean “sun” and “savior/sovereign” or maybe “poseidon”, because remember the Sea Kings said two sovereigns would be born soon. Slight addition to the idea of Poneglyphs being based off hieroglyphs, Oda meant the story to be shorter so Alabasta(the Egypt arc...) definitely had a bunch of symbolism packed in there everywhere. Like for example the panel with Robin and Cobra in the tomb had a bunch of symbolism packed in there that people only really started noticing as of recently, as of the increase in relevancy of Alabasta after Queen Lili and Vivi's recent reintroduction into the story.

At 15:29, I recognize that symbol on the left side of Nico Robins face as an older version of a chinese symbol. It’s the one with the two U’s and a line in it. Originally, it was an upside down person in the ancient writings, but the newer version of it. The word is nì which means to go against. In the video “Chinese Characters Explained 2: Ones that represent meanings” by the UA-cam channel “Fluent in Mandarin”, you can see a visual representation of it 3:34 into the video.

I can definitely see Oda having key symbols or imagery mean something consistent all throughout the poneglyphs for sure. It's more like a hidden code or phrase among the poneglyphs that we may be able to decipher. Its kinda like taking 2 similar languages like , say Arabic and Urdu as an example and comparing them since they are so similar. The combination thing of symbols is similar to kanji or even some letters in arabic due to the amount of variation that can be given to them....

I would like to add a couple of things
1: We might be able to figure out which direction to read the ponegliphs(columns or rows) based on weather it's a Lode Ponegliph or not. The ones in Alabasta are probably meant to be read from the top left, down, then the next column on the right. The Lode Ponegliphs(other than maybe the one roger wrote on) are likely meant to be read like normal sentences.
2: You said it would make sense if that symbol for the sun was written somewhere around the D. I think it's possible that the whole symbol is the "Gol", considering we could also interpret his name as having connections to the sun.

    • @anubislockward3750
      @anubislockward3750 Рік тому +1

If it is the D part of the name, then the two horizontal dots could represent a "period", while the single one might be a comma. The symbol for the D clan would then be the circle with the horizontal line below it, and the two dots on top of it. Yet again...I agree that the most likely direct translation would be to Japanese, which I have no knowledge about.

Am not saying he isnt planning, but am saying that he dosnt do as much planning as to where every detail of the world has been plotted out and planed down to every single event right from the getgo.
However, things like what was written on the Poneglyphs, and the nature of the main cast, those are so central to the plot that they have a lot of detail planed into them.

We could, but we would need a clear and close enough panel of the bottom of the poneglyph and the only close up we get as far as I remember,is the the top left shot hidden island already used in his vid.

People forget One Piece is not Dragonball. It's not never ending, the endgame has been in Oda's mind most likely since chapter 1. Because obviously he had an idea of what the One Piece would be and how it relates to events.
This means that he clearly pre-planned concepts like Joyboy, Sun God Nika, the Nika fruit and Imu in early One Piece... because they are relevant to the endgame.

If circle is sun, and the snake is uraeus. Maybe, Uraeus is Uranus, the ancient weapon?
Lets start with what roger written. What if Oda combined heiroglyphs and japanese? We should compare.

The sun circle you are pointing out is also ancient Chinese for the sun and thus the root for the kanji in Japanese. In china the character was a circle with a dot in the center but when they invented printing systems they standardized everything into a square shape with transformed the circle with dot into square with a horizontal line through it. Just thought that since Oda’s mother language is Japanese which is based off of Chinese and since Chinese/kanji are square shaped conglomeration symbols comprised of other more simple radicals combined into new combinations to create new meanings it might make more sense for Oda to replace those base radicals with different symbols but have a key that translates back to Japanese. Having an alphabet is soooo western ;) if Oda took the most common 100 radicals and assigned them new shapes he could hide Japanese kanji characters in this way and they would look like an ancient foreign language

It has a line for land under and two dots above for rays!
Also that means Robin knows that D is dawn!

I think it needs to be translated with Japanese sentence structure in mind. Not English.
I don’t just mean reading right to left . I mean the structure of the type of words used in a sentence will probably reflect Japanese .

This deserves more attention than it has. This LITERALLY gains a lot more traction now that we know about Nefertari Lili's connection with D and her betrayal of the world nobles. It says that her "mistake" caused the dissemination of these poneglyphs, which highly supports your assessment that Oda meant the poneglyphs to be originally an Alabasta-specific thing

there's some inspiration from japanese characters in some of those symbols fyi. japanese can also be read to the right or to the bottom btw
18:23 like this is literally how radicals function within japanese kanji. 日
I know you probably won't, but i encourage you to learn the basics of japanese. i learned how to read the two notable systems of the three in a couple days. it's honestly not bad. it would help with videos like these and general appreciation of this medium.

Oda is such a genius, that i wouldn't be surprised that we actually can read poneglyphs.
He just hasn't decided to reveal it, as it would spoil us a lot.
Let's remember that unlike Tolkien, Oda has to keep the story going.
So i wont be surprised if Poneglyph language can be translated to Japanese.
