+Seth's Bike Hacks I guess your videos are so good that no further comments are needed, all that is left is spam ;) you do explain rather well, all i can think of here is you could have mentioned that before the scoop you push yourself up and forwards with your legs as if you are jumping (well you mentioned the forward part), then you push the bars and do the scoop. But it's one of those things that everyone just has to try and feel for themselves as it generally is with biking and other body abilities. So I guess keep trying to notice and analyze all the small movements you do. The brain sometimes compounds those into one feeling/memory. Then again maybe you just decided the jumping part is obvious, but my theory still stands, good luck. Good job though, great quality for such a young channel.
Yeah ok only one of them is a true winner I just I thought the lack of meaningful comments made you point it out at all. And I totaly jumped on the opportunity to kiss your ass for some reason xD we do love your videos tho
That could work, but you have to make sure that you don't slow down or stop too much when you use the front brake otherwise your rear wheel might not make it all the way and you'll pinch flat or kill your chainring.
I was taught this by using a pedal kick to get the front wheel up instead of popping, that way your weight is already closer to the front allowing you to scoop easier.
Enjoying your trials stuff even though they are for beginners. If youre ever back in vancouver and want to do videos with a competition trials bike hit me up
Not quite sure why I cant get more height on my street bunny hop trials? My bike is a Litespeed hardtail with Rockshox 30's. Maybe if your around Palm beach county you can give me a personal lesson?...lol The best Im doing is a half ass wheelie...damn! I'll just keep watching your videos and hoping not to fall too hard! Your the man!!
Great new video Seth, thanks for sharing it. Got a question for you...lately I've noticed my rear brake, well, is maybe getting "looser"? I don't know the term really, but to explain it, basically I have to pull it in more than I used to for it to get the stopping power I expect. It's not that I have to squeeze "harder" per se, just squeeze it more in than normal. I hope this makes sense, but hoping you could shed some light on what you think it might be or what I can look for before bringing it in for professional repair. Thanks so much!
It depends on the type of brakes you have. Cables stretch, hydraulics need bleeding, and pads wear. So depending on what your setup is there will definitely be some servicing required at some point.
Hi Seth, thanks for taking the time to post these awesome bike videos. Question: should I be using flat pedals and regular sneakers for learning to hop, scoop, etc.? My sense is yes, but wanted to confirm with you. I normally ride with SPD pedals.
Using comments to document progress: Worked on this on the steep climb trails with roots and rocks. Have not done anything over knee height, but will try higher things on fourplay and not exhausted.
Thanks for all the videos man. And Thank you for inspiring me to get off my ass lol. I live in Fort Lauderdale and damn bro all I want to do is bunny hop around town lol.
Great video Seth, I do think though that when you describe scooping you rear wheel up you should include that you need to push backwards slightly so your feet dont just slip and go up off the pedals, that happened to me a few times more than I'd like to admit while learning.
Wish I knew how to do this when I was a kid.. Gonna get a bike when I move to the US for college this fall! Any MTB recommendations for a budget up to $500?
I commented on your other videos but got no response, but I can't do the hop on the rear wheel thing. My bike has the weirdest geometry and it's not the lightest thing either (Rocky Mountain pipeline) I can do all sorts of other hopping but I just can't seem to get it to balance! Any suggestions?
+Crsxbike Well for one thing your bike is a full suspension bike so its a lot more trickier to hop on the back wheel with the suspension affecting your hops. I would recommend doing a small endo then lock the back wheels with your rear brakes once it lands then lean back. Once you feel balanced on the back wheel do some small hops while balancing. With a full suspension bike I would say lean back a bit more but I highly recommend you do this on a hardtail.
+Thomas John Solidum that's what I was thinking but I'm 14 and only allowed two bikes at a time 😁, my cyclocross bike is a must and I love my mountain bike too much. I tried locking the rear shock and that worked better. Thanks!
Never tried it, but I used to ride in jeans when doing BMX. Maybe that would be a less restrictive solution. Riding in boots is some serious cowboy shit!
As a beginner in mountain biking, I need an experienced riders opinion. Should I repair my stock Trek 4500 24" or should I buy a mongoose ledge 2.1. I don't know how much it would be to repair my trek, but I know it will be around the price of a ledge 2.1. I don't have a lot of money since I'm only 14 years old and these options are more of a Christmas present my dad has given me, except I picked out the option of the mongoose ledge, and my dad just said you want a new bike for Christmas huh? So I said yes. I'm only asking for an opinion for either, or maybe even a different bike for under $300, thank you!
Repair the 4500. When you outgrow it hopefully you have the money for something better than the Ledge, but unfortunately I can't recommend that bike because all of the bearings are ticking time bombs.
Also, if you can spend $500 you can actually get an entry level Diamondback Hardtail with decent parts on it. Just save your pennies and hold out! If you're already hopping you'll only get better and need a more durable bike, so make sure you get something that will last you!
Hey Seth, just wondering how much psi do you put in your mountain bike for going on jumps and stairs like the ones in the video? Because previously i punctured my tires going up a sharp stair and i don't know how much psi i should put now. Thanks
When riding street I run 40psi, but you should go higher if you have narrow tires (below 2.0). Even then, it's more about how you ride the bike. Sometimes I'll forget to adjust the pressure and rarely will I get a pinch flat. Just let the bike move under you, try not to slam it down on obstacles, and be mindful of where your weight is on certain obstacles.
lol, i just realised i use puling and poping i think it was called, getting your front and back wheel of the ground. But i use that in the city all the time on a normal city bike, when you need to get onto the sidewalk becuase a car is blocking the road haha
When I tried to scoop by pointing my toes down my feet slipped off the pedals and I fell onto the crossbar even when I used specific flat pedal shoes What am I doing wrong?
Bunny hopping at speed on a freestyle trials bike is quite easy, yet if you are on a competition trials bike it becomes almost impossible to pull it off.
+James Woodley I would stay away from the Mongoose ledge. Mongoose bikes that are Walmart based are usually built around poor quality steel and poorly assembled with cheap parts so I would recommend staying with your 4500 since its a way better frame and you can upgrade it with better parts since it is designed with much more modern standards like oversized headtubes, heat treated aluminum frame and a better geometry. The Mongoose ledge is only a steel bike that has standard compenents like V-brakes and standard headset so you can;t upgrade it with better parts since it won't fit.
I don't understand how there can be like 10 first comments

Theres a guy on my street with a trials bike he is skilled as fuck, at first i thought it was a crazy modded BMX but then i started watching ur vids
First
I have trouble getting it up sometimes. Maybe I should see a doctor.
try using your hands more and wrists
I go to the doctor with you
I wanna come too
ED? Nice
I know in part it's the editing, but you make these look so easy. Which is a testament to how hard you've worked to get to that point.
When I climb on something I like to use the front brake just a little to help me lift the rear ✌️
That could work, but you have to make sure that you don't slow down or stop too much when you use the front brake otherwise your rear wheel might not make it all the way and you'll pinch flat or kill your chainring.
Thanks for this one. You pop wheel so effortlessly I can't tell you're doing it.
Masterfully done, as usual Seth!
I was taught this by using a pedal kick to get the front wheel up instead of popping, that way your weight is already closer to the front allowing you to scoop easier.
Yep, you can get your front wheel off the ground many different ways, all of which can help you in different situations
Great videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You are a good teatcher Seth
your vids helps me a lot thanks n keep make this channel alive yeah.you the best
I keep watching your videos and I keep failing to do bunny hop. daymn
Enjoying your trials stuff even though they are for beginners. If youre ever back in vancouver and want to do videos with a competition trials bike hit me up
this is actually really helpful
I did the scoop do hard one time and flipped the back wheel over my head I jumped off lol

Do this clipless :)
I personally do everything with platform pedals, but you can also do it with clips

yes!
last drop is like 'jaw drop'
Can you make a tips and mistakes video for this technique
Hey Seth. Did you remove your chain guide? (That Bionicon C-Guide Eco)
I did, as I have a Shadow derailleur now. It works so good I can even land backwards without the chain popping off.
hey Seth I was wonder if u do like easy tricks like whips and do a tutorials on those
It's getting winter and colder and the mountainbike season is over for me, but still nice video's :)
I'll keep them coming throughout the winter for you... it never gets cold in South Florida
Seth's Bike Hacks noice :)
Any tips on avoiding hitting my chain ring when mounting taller obstacles?
Using comments to document progress: Worked on this on the steep climb trails with roots and rocks. Have not done anything over knee height, but will try higher things on fourplay and not exhausted.
I find this more helpful than a bunny hop at lower speeds
I can't hop with my bike ( I can but only about 10cm ) while standing... What could I do?
Thanks for all the videos man. And Thank you for inspiring me to get off my ass lol. I live in Fort Lauderdale and damn bro all I want to do is bunny hop around town lol.
Twentysecond - Well now I know why I've been getting tons of pinchflats lately.

Do you think the bicycle brand: Giant. Is any good :)
yeah Giant is good
I used to have a giant, Now I have a cube, and yeh Giants are really good :)
Hell yeah i have one
Yeah giants are well priced, not a big fan of the paintwork but I csn get over it
I live in Florida right near you and was wondering were you can buy a mtb trails bike
oh man, so far online is the only option
Watch Getting up Objects with Martyn Ashton. Too funny.
That video should be mandatory study material
How to heck do you scoop??
I bike in lubbock with a lot of thorns and cacti. Would wearing boots be OK, or do they limit your ankles too much?
Never tried it, but I used to ride in jeans when doing BMX. Maybe that would be a less restrictive solution. Riding in boots is some serious cowboy shit!

Question: what shoes do you wear for your flat padels?
Sandals, running shoes, or whatever. In this video I'm actually just wearing Pearl Izumi SPD shoes with no cleats.
+Seth's Bike Hacks Thanks for replying. Because I found hard to find a pair of shoes that can hold flat pedals really well...
Aren't you glad you're out of Miami? I know I am.
hi seth

any good maxxis tires 24" for my 03' trek mt 220?
lol, i just realised i use puling and poping i think it was called, getting your front and back wheel of the ground. But i use that in the city all the time on a normal city bike, when you need to get onto the sidewalk becuase a car is blocking the road haha
I want this trial bike have any of you a link for me
would you consider selling the inspire trial bike
Yes, for sure. Check the contact page on my website if you're interested. I'm always switching up bikes and buying/selling.
+sethsbikehacks do u use clips on ir videos??
almost never... if I ever do racing tutorials I will
what is this thing actually called?
I'm doing this to every platform i see on my BMX cuz i found that's much less effort to do than a bunny hop.
When I tried to scoop by pointing my toes down my feet slipped off the pedals and I fell onto the crossbar even when I used specific flat pedal shoes
What am I doing wrong?
Maybe push your feet into them harder and get your weight more forwards. It does take a little practice to get the hang of.
Yes it does. I still practice bunny hops but weather is a bitch. *RainAllDay*
:53 "and it looks nasty. EEEEWWWW" lol
Bunny hopping at speed on a freestyle trials bike is quite easy, yet if you are on a competition trials bike it becomes almost impossible to pull it off.
Rip to all my chain rigs lost like this
0:24 does he need to pump up his tires or is it just me?
darn this is kind of hard because im 12 and my bike is to big for me right now
teach me senpai
bro i cant do this on flats
hi
Great video but I can't for the life of me lift my rear wheel.
4 years passed... Can you do it now?
@@sfafsashfdh6589 lmao i really want him to reply now
@@Porouskilldeathratio I think he deleted yt acc and become trials pro addict
I love how seth's bike hacks is more about skills rather than just gear like gmbn
I tried to do a wall jump but i almost died
Im to dumb to lift my back wheel😯
Why did my comment get deleted?
I was asking for and opinion on my trek 4500 vs getting a new mongoose ledge 2.1 and it got deleted.
+James Woodley I would stay away from the Mongoose ledge. +Thomas John Solidum sorry an MT220
James Woodley MT220 is a kids mountain bike. How old are you?
