I have NEVER seen this in an NHL game

- It’s been a tough year for Joonas Korpisalo and the Ottawa Senators as a whole. They had given up a goal on the first or 2nd shot of the game 20 times this season and had done it in their last 3 games in a row and after a 4 3 loss to New Jersey Saturday, they were officially eliminated from the playoffs coming into last nights matchup against the Washington Capitals. While they ALMOST gave up a goal on the first shot again, Chychrun was able to block an open net to avoid it. However, while they didn't scored on with the first shot, they did, once again get scored on with the Capitals 2nd shot. But like a sign from the Hockey Gods, during play suddenly the Sun blinded Korpisalo! This, at an indoor hockey game. It was something I have never personally seen in an NHL game and the odds of it happening the day before a Solar Eclipse are pretty insane. As for the game, it was a good one that saw the Senators come back to push it to overtime. I cover it all in todays NHL hockey video!

The Solar Eclipse came early!
came early. I don't think the sun and moon care about time. define early to them
edit... you win after watching
To cloudy to see the eclipse for me
Strange how it's both the capital cities of Canada and U.S.
Except a solar eclipse means no sun. Good try though.
Review the golden knights @ coyotes, crazy comeback
Tkachuk would try to fight the sun LMAO
Prob would make the sun hide after
@@ray017ray017 yeah, like with Hischier he likes to pick opponents that don't fight. What a man.
@@ray017ray017 🤣🤣🤣
I'd pay to watch that, since i cant watch the Sens in nhe playoffs this year😂
That’s why the sun is hiding behind the moon rn
I remember a game from Buffalo in April or May way back, maybe 30 years ago, where there was extensive fog in the arena. They had to stop the game and get all the players on the ice skating around to stir up the air and clear the fog.
1975 Stanley Cup (Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres, game #3)
@@osql8thank you for getting us the details!
The Fog Game! Game 3 of the 74-75 finals, Philly visiting Buffalo, Buffalo down 2 games to none. There was a bat flying around the arena, and Jim Lorentz smacked it out of the air with his stick, killing it. Rick MacLeish picked it up with his stick and it was disposed of. Then the fog descended. The refs had the two teams skating in circles on their halves of the ice to try to break it up a bit, but it didn't work and the game went on. Sabres were down a goal after 1. Gary Desjardins was the Sabres goalie, and he asked to be pulled because he just wasn't feeling it, so Roger Crozier took over. After two, Buffalo was still down a goal, but tied it up in the third and send the fog game into OT. Play had to be stopped 7 times for the fog during the OT, but late in the first OT, the French Connection got the job done. Martin along the boards, passed to Perreault who took it into the Flyer zone, passed it off to Robert in the far right corner. He took a wrister from a severe angle that got behind Bernie Parent. Game over. One of the most exciting games ever in Buffalo.
This also reminds me of the time a player swatted a bat out the air with his stick
You people make up the greatest stories! Remember the game where a grizzly bear dr ov e the zamboni
The sun was assessed a 2 minute minor to be served behind the moon.
more a double minor this time
LOL!!!
That’s very good 👏
Okay, that's pretty funny
LMAOOOOOO good one! 🤣🤣🤣
“New level of home ice advantage” Wouldn’t be surprised if they add a retractable roof for a 1pm start :/
with the first ever sunshaded visors.
Doesn’t Seattle have that?
Too bad the arena dj couldn't play the song Blinded By the Light during the stoppage of play. That trolling would have been epic 😂.
or even, "I Saw the Light" Or "Come on and Light my" Goalie!
Actually the Arena DJ played "Enter Sandman" as Sanderson was on the ice to start OT..... and he won the game lol
I used to have season tickets to the old Columbus Chill of the ECHL. When a Wheeling Nailer player, who took the ice after a multi-game suspension for an alcohol issue, the rink's sound guy played AC/DC's "Have a Drink On Me" to mark his first shift. They also played No Doubt's "I'm Just a Girl" when an opponent laid on the ice injured. Couldn't get away with that these days...
The Sun was given a major, and ejected from the game.
Best comment, deserves more than just a thumbs up!
Illegal check to the eyes with intent to injure
Game misconduct
Lip reading ref as he looks into the bright light, "Oh, yeah. That's bright."
In all the years that I watched Hockey Night in Canada, I've never seen a game halted because of interference from the sun coming through a window and blinding a goal-tender. I guess the positive from this is that it will feature on many a high-"light" video!
To be fair, Korpi's golden mask looks even better with the light reflecting directly on it ✨️
Quite true! And it works both ways, "Please stop play, I'm being unfairly blinded", as well as, "Please stop play and admire me as I glow in the sunlight".
Blinded by the light
Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night
The Lord was calling Korpisalo home, but the goalie denies the request by winning the outcome of the game. Korpisalo was like... No, it is not my time yet I have the game through the bitter end. 😂
As a hockey fan in Northern California,I don’t get much hockey news. Thanks!
I think this is how Stonehenge determines when spring starts.
Tbh I thought the goalie were always in the spotlight
Makes his gold lid look amazing though 😀
I guess Capital One Arena doesn't play by hockey rules when it comes to fans. That rule is you're not going to your seat until there's a stoppage in play.
There’s no rule stopping you from LEAVING your seat during play though…
@@johky you can leave your seat but you can't come back until play stops.
@@Rockhound6165 I’m aware….? what I was explaining is that someone could have left their seat and opened the curtain on their way out.
As the cricket World Cup is coming to the states this year and I know how excited you must all be for our weird baseball 😂 we had an ongoing issue at Lancashire cricket club where the sun would stop play! There was a B&Q (Home depot) next to the ground and the sun would reflect off the metal roof! Never experienced it causing issues to an indoor game of any sport however.
South African here (and Avs fan since they moved from Quebec), I'm super excited for the Cricket World Cup! Only thing is that some of the games are happening by me in Texas and I'm afraid the heat here going to be a huge surprise for the players. I asked a local if they wanted to go with me to experience cricket and his response was: "Nope. It's going to be way too hot."😂
I remember this happening few times here in Finland, at the old arena in Tampere, of the top league teams of Ilves and Tappara. It was in the 90's and the goalie waving to the officials was young Vesa Toskala in one game.
1:05 - Korpisalo had his moment in the sun. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Props to that usher in Washington that knew the sun was in line with Korpisalo and opened the curtain mid-game.
Could you make a vid on the central, since it’s a tight division (Avs fan) also I love the vids so plz keep making them
We have Caps season tickets at that end of the arena. The afternoon sun can be a serious problem at certain times of year if they don’t keep the curtains between the stands and the concourse closed. Given the difficulty of preventing people from coming and going, you’d think they could install some relatively small shades on the concourse windows to prevent the sun from shining in the problem locations. Maybe use some of the $515 million the city is putting for arena upgrades!
They had sun problems like that happen at Reunion Arena back in the old days in Dallas.
During the playoffs they had to put up curtains and bring in add’l HVAC to keep the place cold enough that the ice wouldn’t start to melt.
Ahh, the good old days…
Last night's game I was hoping Ovi would score. He's picked up the scoring recently though!
Were you hoping Ovi would score?
The NHL should seriously pay you! Your videos are so fun and really make me love the game even more as a new fan
That's been going on for years up there. ATL hockey fan here, and I remember the Thrashers being up there and having a 20 minute delay to the start for the same reason. Not sure why they can't get a curtain up there.
Never seen that before and I’ve been watching hockey for over 40 years.
This happened to the Flyers in the late 60’s at the old Soectrum. It was an afternoon game, and the Flyer goalie lost the puck in the light coming in from the outside just like at the Capitals/Ottawa game. The goal cost the flyers the playoffs that year. Who knows, if it would not have happened, maybe the Flyers make the playoffs that year and the Broad Street bullies never happened. You never know.
It reminds me of a couple of places in Peru where the Incas carved things in the mountains. On one day of the year, the sun would shine through a hole and illuminate another carving several miles away. I believe this was due to their lack of ice hockey.
1:45 would of been the fight of the year LOL
New strategy: open the curtains .
It happens at Stonehenge every summer.
Bro is gonna have a lot to cover for today’s video. So much chaos
Sonny Milano played for the late Tim Alexander in Cleveland with the Barons and the Goebel family owns the barons - doug hauser played for the barons in 1978 after he graduated from Padua Franciscan HS with mike glover - Otis Plageman coached at the barons
I remember when this happened to Roy back in the day at the old forum.
Ripping a letter off the board ads....a start in the right direction. Let's see this become a trend.
I always say that every game (any sport) I go to, I see something weird that has never happened before.
The higher ups at the Caps organization are letting these problems happen to protest not being able to move to Virginia..
Please have Jonathan Pudas hypeing up the crowd in the next vid
Well...there were 2 uncovered players infront. Where is the defenseman or center to help out?
Surprising there was sunbeams given all the dark clouds in Washington.
I recall this happening in
Vancouver with Luongo
Tim Thomas used to let the first shot in almost every game
Feel bad for the architect, dude calculated this event and made cool spectacle with a damn perfect calculations but every one is just angry.
4:08 sure looks like offsides! Carbs must have not had a good video angle to look at, unless the eclipse blinded him from challenging!
Am I the only one that quoted Jake from the Blues Brothers here???? ;)
The sens are a joke at this point
Not in the NHL but I've definitely seen blinding sun it in beer league.
honestly this was very funny, one of the strangest stoppages i have ever seen
Didn’t even know it was possible with NHL arenas.
Watch out, Marjorie Taylor Green will say this is yet another sign to repent.
😂
Lol the same thing happened in the playoffs in dallas back in the late 90s or early 2000s. The sun was blinding players and melting the ice. Players were tripping on the ice. They had to put up curtains on the doors and bring out the zamboni.
No wonder there was the failed proposal to move the home arena to Alexandria.
that gold mask looks so cool in the sun though. it ha its moment. real gold in that cage btw
Everyone gets their moment in the Sun I guess
It looks like they’re all watching a UFO land.
What did they all stop for a picture?
This is Beee Utiful!! Moves the Detroit Red Wings in a good place!!
They are having more of these afternoon games on the weekends to deconflict with College Basketball. It is a first, but suspect it won't be the last.
4:08 offside for sure
Yah, that sun thing has happened before, in a Stanley Cup game sometime in the seventies, I believe
21 times in the first 2 shots of the game is fucking rough
Its hard being a sens fan
A while country feels a part just mot suprise even Arena in DC
Praise the sun!
To see Chychrun leave AZ since we can't score enough only to end up on a team that's rock bottom as well is sweet
UND 2.0 Sanderson with a well timed winner.
Don’t forget about mites on ice
Caps owner has bummed some money from taxpayers to repair the arena.
2:20 now we all know why the Capitals and Wizards need a new home badly
Ted is cheap!
Wait.... You can call a time out so you have more time to review a play? I thought that had to be done on the fly
Not a Caps fan, but I want them to make the playoffs. However, the way they play is like they don't want to. They can't even keep the lead what so ever.
Do your research this happened at the old Spectrum in Philadelphia
Someone forgot to close the curtains in the outer foyer of the stadium and light was traveling down onto the ice surface and in the eyes I'm not just the goalie but the defenseman also check your history...
Sun, 2 minutes, delay of game.
Maybe he was the chosen one from God, " YOU'RE THE SAVIOR " God
Limo tint them doors.
Congratulations to John Carlson celebrating his 1000th game…all as a Cap!
Sun stops Indoor hockey game....ok.
Korpisallo should’ve stayed in LA
While I understand the stoppage of play, Korpisalo was being a little whiney that game. Tossing the puck and throwing a tantrum when he covered and got poked at... like come on little guy, literally EVERY GOALIE deals with pokes like that EVERY NIGHT.
Time for another rebuild boys! The AHL team of the NHL.
OTT 3 2 WSH
Capital One arena is a shit hole and I wouldn't change a thing. Let's go caps
That's called "The sun setting on your season"! 🤣The sunlight shooting through the windows of the foyer, straight down a corridor to the ice! It's like the scene from Indana Jones... I thought Korpisalo was going to turn into a mummy! 😟
It's DC, even the arena is a shithole lol
Sometimes I forget Ottawa Senators exist
The sun still shines on Canada's ass in the NHL once in a while!
This isn't the first time this happened. My boyfriend and I have been going to Caps games for years. Roughly ten years ago, before an afternoon game against the Rangers, the game was delayed for a few minutes because the sun was in Henrik Lundqvist's face. I think they had to close the curtains in the club seating to fix the issue.
heh
Everything from Ottawa fails.
first
Ottawa is a dirty team.
Capitals cheating . Should be a league review.
Rapture coming may 19 so don’t matter 🤷
Everytime I bet with My capitals they make me lose money smh 10 dollars could have been 1500 if they just knew how to win a game when I needed it🥲 what makes ut worse the senators are trash in a away games so wtf
Well...there were 2 uncovered players infront. Where is the defenseman or center to help out?
