Hi everyone! To answer a frequently asked question about the costs I incurred: I break down the full costs of quarantine and meals in my next video: “Doctor Reacts to China Quarantine Food | COST of Quarantine in Shanghai (August 2022)” ua-cam.com/video/66npQeDYLOw/v-deo.html
Sorry to hear about the flights! Yes, you do have to go through a lottery system to get into the mainland, and it could be a wait, but that’s how a friend of mine got in!
Hallo dear Dr. Yan Yu, I would like to go to China two month later. Have got some quastions concerning my health problems. Is it possible to pay for a consultation with you. I have some special health problems wich are relevant for the quarantine time. Thenks for your reply.
great question - my answer (which may change depending on China policy): same quarantine for anybody who is an international arrival - 7 days group quarantine plus 3 days home quarantine if your final destination is the same city into which you fly or if you can arrange it with your final destination; otherwise 10 day quarantine in the city into which you fly. good luck and smooth travels!
Requirements vary depending on the country, but in terms of what keeps you safer, I wear at least N95 or FFP2 level masks. This is just what I do personally, not medical advice. Hope this helps!
You know, I’m not too sure what swabs are made of (Cotton?) but I know that I personally have never seen an allergic reaction to COVID swabbing, and from the literature review I did based on your excellent question, it seems the most common complications of nasopharyngeal swabs are nosebleeds and tips of swabs breaking off in the nose, none of which have happened to the patients I’ve swabbed! Can you link me to a report of swab allergy?
@@DrYanYu Where from, hospitals that don't receive patients during covid lockdown? Maybe because medical system doesn't allow to report the alergic reaction. Or if it does allow to report allergies and injuries from enforced/administrated treatments, tell me exactly how to do it, please. How about people who have had hole in their nose due to past injuries and burns inside the nose and throat? Are they allowed to be scratched with any swabs so frequently? How do you explain so risky sampling comparing to much safer saliva test developed and produced in China, sold only to medical institutions? Do they use saliva test and for people use swab tests?
Hi again . They Gave us the green code but we have to make another 2 pcr test . Does they have the same health code app in every embassy of china? Or It differs from every country.I can’t find the link from the Finland embassy of china😅. Thanks
Glad to hear they gave you the green code! When do you have to do the PCR tests again? I can only speak to my Canadian experience as each consulate seems to have a different policy. One approach would be to email your local consulate to ask them your question - good luck!
Glad you found it helpful, Jill! I have one coming up on what life is like in zero COVID China right now, which may also be of help. When are you hoping to enter the country?
hi we are travelling via helsinki to china..we got 5 PCR test that were useless because they keep giving us red code ..our flight is complicate. zurich 10:50 to helsinki 24 -9-2022 and then helsinki 16:35 to shanghai 25-9-2022 we were confused why we got the red code . we calculated the first flight as 48 hour for the PCR test or it should be calculated base on the connecting flight?
@@DrYanYu please if i have a flight with transit but will be in China within or before 24 hours , will my green code be still valid or do I need to get tested during transit even though it is only few hours?
I am also going through quarantine at the hotel in Shanghai . Thry made us pay for 10 days and only mentionned that they will refund money according to the days spent at the location . I hope that they will let me out after the 7th day
Glad you enjoyed it! My actual flight experience (and why it cost almost CAD$9000!!) is in a separate video, and two more videos are being released soon on Food in Quarantine and life in Zero-COVID China :)

Hello, lovely informative video. We just got a ticket to fuzhou, stopping at UK (origin) >Netherland>Shanghai>Fuzhou(final destination). are we all required to quarantine in Shanghai? Was expecting to do so during the final destination, if so what happens to the plane ticket?
Hi there! Thanks for the kind feedback. Unfortunately you must all quarantine in Shanghai and the rest of your ticket to fuzhou is useless… sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
Thanks...very helpful! what was the.cost of quarantine? I can't see the.motivaion for municipalities to deal with the 3 day thus...10 day for everyone.
Oh my goodness, you're right, I forgot to talk about the cost - I just focused on the experience! I will mention the full cost in the next video, but the cost of the room was 2600 Yuan for the entire 10 days. 260 yuan per night. And yes I did wonder if part of the motivation for making everyone quarantine 10 days was financially based!
@@DrYanYu That's great news! I couldn't find any UA-cam vlogs that explicitly stated they could (or couldn't) use the bathroom or snack while waiting. Thank you!
Hi Amy! Great question. It was around $500 usd for the entire 10 days, and I break this down for viewers in my next video, which I can link you to when it is released.
Great video sir, I'm guessing China is still not allowing international travelling in any states at china? When do you think it's possible for China to re-open for tourists?
Great video thanks! How long did it take he consulate to give you the green code after you submitted the form? I booked my second PCR test at 2pm and my flight is at 11:55pm. I hope there is enough time!
My honest suggestion to those are coming anyway, highly recommended to complete 10 days full quarantine at the port of arrival essentially in a bigger city as you may think of taking last 3 days at your own city/town, might be a nightmare decision as small city/towns may be a sad story to tell to others like me! I now regret why I didn’t do full 10 days in Guangzhou, it would help you in so many ways you would never imagine! Thanks and good luck to all folks
Great question Tracie, while most payments are via Alipay or WeChat pay in China, I don't think anyone will refuse cash ;) Please let me know how it goes for you - I could be wrong of course, so I appreciate your feedback!
I am currently in a quarantine hotel in Shanghai. Cash was not accepted. I paid by credit card (visa). Of course Alipay and WeChat could be used, as well. I paid 85 usd a night. Hope this helps!
@@AuntTDoes... oh wow I had no idea. thanks for letting us know cash not accepted. 85 USD a night sounds expensive, how does your experience compare to mine? in terms of accomodations, food ,etc?
@@DrYanYu The food is the same. Definitely easier to do 3 days than 3 weeks like I did last time. Also you do self antigen tests each day including for the 4 days after you leave. Overall the process in Hong Kong is much easier than what is required to go to the mainland. I will be heading into China.
大白 is actually the Chinese name for Baymax XD They’re calling them Baymax, but no one ever translates it that way. People only translate it literally which sounds really intimidating. I think that the whole couples/families being able to be together or being separated depends on either the hotels itself or the city/county. I’ve heard of both.
One important point to mention to people wanting to enter China is that it is virtually impossible for foreigners to arrange for the airport bus tickets and pay for the quarantine hotel because most foreigners do not have a piece of required software called "WeChat" nor a Chinese bank account to pay with as these quarantine hotels do not take cash or credit cards. Many foreigners who are knowledgeable about technology will refuse to install WeChat which is a bloated piece of spyware/malware that now is virtually required to install and will allow the government to access all information on the phone and track a person inside China as well as all of the communications and financial transactions. Essentially a dystopian nightmare. So unless you have a Chinese friend or relative you will be screwed.
Thanks for commenting Mike. actually, most if not all quarantine hotels take credit card and there is NO cost for the bus taking you to your quarantine location. If you think wechat is what you say it is, you should watch my Zero COVID China video, haha

Your reference to the folks in the hazmat suit as, "the hazemat suit" especially early when you talked about following one, made me chuckle.
50% of Imported cases were diagnosed positive on arrival in hk. Something like 89% were confirmed positive by day 3.
For sure, we did have some positive cases amongst our flight cohort as well that turned up a few days later. Scary!
how long does green code takes?
when would be good right away or before flight?
The same facility is also used to quarantine Covid patients as well
Oh wow! No kidding! If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know that?
