- Testing the 40lb vs the 150lb rifle Crossbows to see how much better the 150lb does, some of the power from the 40lb still surprises me.
I used Alloy/Aluminium bolts one with a field tip the other with a broadhead to see how penetration varied.
This test should be proof to people who seem to think that crossbows are toys are very much mistaken.
I'd say you made some very good points thank you.
I've had a lot of trolls/idiots claim I might accidentally shoot someone who walks around the corner, but it's my garden and it's fenced off, I check the gardens clear before I start shooting.
It's pretty inconceivable that someone would randomly appear out of thin air and walk around the corner as I'm shooting. But if they did I wouldn't feel sorry for someone who's trespassing after vaulting a 6ft fence.
I like the page measurements
this is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels entertaining and informative videos especially your tutorial one for us complete novices =)
Thanks
The crossbow doesn't weigh 150lb, it's draw weight is 150lb.
what makes a great difference too (at least with airguns) is how densely the pages are packed (if there is room between the pages or not).
i found that a 320 page catalogue that had stopped a .177bullet at about page 230 would be penetrated easily if the material was not as dense (slightly fanned out to 1.5 times its thickness).
follow-up shots might penetrate easier if material is affected by the first one...
Yeah it's so easy to cock that it's more of a speed and ease over power setup, I bought the prod for target shooting as the normal crossbows are too energy consuming for more than 10 or so shots. It did a lot better than I expected though.
Excellent L. At the useable ranges we discuss there is a level of effectiveness in both poundages, and the broadheads are doing well at short close range, which is really where its all going to happen. Next up - Chicken? Lamb? Very good test again mate. Baz.
You reminded me of something that my friends and I use to do when I was younger. We actually made an in-door shooting range in my parents basement using our old encyclopedias to stop our .22 rifle and pistol bullets and we used the same page-number penetration method that you are using in this vid. Great minds think alike I guess! haha Although I do not condone shooting firearms in the house now that I'm older! ha
+GeorgeBonez Yeah makes sense, pretty loud and you really don't want to miss.
Thanks Mike, was surprised really the 40lb went all the way through the yellow pages, still does nothing compared to the 150lb though.
Well I've never sued a Sidewinder but after googling it it appears it's identical to the Chasewind, comparing the Chasewind to the Firecat the Chasewind has slightly more fps and has better default sights (Fibre optic rings), while still shooting under 300fps it does add more spin to the bolt improving accuracy but lowering the bolts life.
So for competition shooting I'd go for the Sidewinder/Chasewind.
I know this is late but is there any reason many of the MK 150 crossbows look different from one another ?
Also do u know if the jaguar175 lb limb is compatible with the Mk150 series ? Thanks, also really like the video ideas
Nope no limits at all, but most manufactures don't seem to bother with anything over 225lb.
You can modify pistol crossbows to higher poundages however.
There's a guy who's subscribed to me called Sharky who did a good video where he put a half prod in-front of a full 80lb prod to rig the crossbow to over 100lb of power.
Here in America we hunt just about everything with bows and crossbows.
However pleasure shooting and plinking is normally done with blunts. Often self made by glueing an expended .357 cartridge glued over the end. These are way more than adequate for even small coyotes shot fron a lightweight bow. They dont penetrate AT ALL. We use broadheads ONLY for large game coyote size and above.
The lightweight bow of yours is an ideal small game hunter. I cant tell you how expensive broken bolts or arrows are and that is exactly what you get when shooting even medium powered bows at solid objects.
130+ lbs for coyotes, hogs, and deer. 30 to 50 with blunts for squirrels and Rabbits.
You dont want penetration with the smaller game.
Thanks for the excellent comment, have seen a few people also use rubber coated arrows for using for blunt trauma etc.
It did, think the catalog might have been missing the first 50 pages or so.
A lot of the time the bolt has to go in exactly straight, any curve and it loses penetration.
Merlin archery it's an Armex/Man Kung 150lb crossbow, the scope was fitted by me however.
i just happened upon this older vid by chance, good vid. i gotta ask? where are you? i noticed the profound british accent but seeing the yellow phonebook, the neighborhood looks american. as for the results its no surprise the 150 pounder outdid the 40 pounder, but i am surprised the 150 pounder didnt send both tips all the way through the phonebook and into your shed wall. i'm also surprised the little 40 pounder did as well as it did. we can get those pistol crossbows here for $10-$20, and i had a couple and they was fun to shoot but didnt think they could do that. judging from your results they could be a viable option for home defense
I'm in England
Nice demonstration, where did you purchase the 150lbs crossbow if you don't mind me asking?
They certainly are, I've got a newer crossbow since this 150lb that goes even further through catalogs.
What have you got against catalogues?
+Dr. Ralph Kennedy Easy targets.
Argos stopped doing the £10 off every £100 spent
Your 150lb crossbow with the scope on looks deadly. I'm surprised the 40lb crossbow done good.
Some interesting points, thank you.
Thank you so much for this video, can you do a test with different grains?
Thanks, should be great as Barnett make very nice crossbows/bows.
Hi. I've enjoyed watching your videos and have learned a lot. I'm about to buy my first crossbow and was wondering which you think would be best for NFAS shooting in the UK (maximum 300 FPS) - a venom sidewinder, jaguar, firecat or chace wind? If I've missed any out that you would recommend, please tell me. Thanks very much.
and finally the mankung crossbows are accurate and of good quality.
Decent enough, the newer models are decently accurate and the quality is very good for the price.
Good idea might do that on a future test.
Also I'm from Oxford but a lot of people around here don't sound like this.
The 40lbs crossbow used was not a small pistol crossbow, was it? Pistol crossbow can't shoot a 14 inches bolt right?
No it's a rifle crossbow with a low draw prod
So.. Suppose 80lb pistol crossbow (with 7 inch bolt) vs 40lb rifle crossbow ( with 14 inch bolt).Which would shoot with highest power?
what was the reason for swapping out the 120lb prod did it break?
I wanted a low power prod for target shooting, and I can use the 150lb for heavy use.
Thanks,
I imagine lamb or pork would be a better stimulant for what we want.
i do not mean to sound critical. but taping the book shut stops the pages from moving and absorbing energy to prevent deeper penetration.
and your accent sounds familiar, may i ask, where do you hail from?
Uk
My crossbow looks exactly the same as the 40lb but mine is a 120lb.
Yes it's a 120lb and I changed the prod.
i assume you wont be buying much from argos......
Why not?
beware brother , those broad head points are illegal.
Nope they're perfectly legal under the crossbow act. Can you quote me where it states they're illegal.
True it just illegal to hunt with them that's all.
Broad heads are legal in Australia (SA at least), it may very well be illegal in your area where you live.
I have a 80lb ace crossbow can I used the tension bar with 150lbS
Those both look like they are the same 150 lb
Next Episode: 250 fps crossbow vs 300 fps crossbow speed test
Did one on a compound vs a recurve which was like 250fps vs 360fps.
Cool.
hi im thinking about getting the barnett recruit crossbow 80lb.
how many yards can i shoot and still get a nice lethal power?
I'd say at-least 30 yards with a broadhead probably a lot more, never shot a Barnett crossbow so can't really speculate.
Good staf man.
Thanks
you should secure these better so they do not fall over this does not show the full power as the kinetic nergy is lost with the books falling over
Dam bruh i wanted to see the 150 crossbow at the end fly right through
I will challenge you to a duel. 80lb pistol at 10m
I really hope he was trying to be sarcastic or make a joke
hi .the 150 lbs crossbow for hunting big game works .jabali me , I deer .thanks .and also if kung mang crossbows are of good quality .thanks .
+MEXICAN AIRGUNER (LALO) Yeah with a broadhead the 150lb could take deer.
Hang up the book, let it swingggg man
Then don't watch my videos.
Question when you say the crossbow is 150ib do u mean the crossbow is actualy 150 pounds or does it mean something else?
hey man i have the same 150lbs crosbow and i've got that sight but how do i install it?
You'll need a dovetail mount for the scope, it's what old rifles and air rifles used before 20mm rails, after that it just attaches to the top rail of the crossbow.
Weaponsandstuff93 thanks i will give that a look
Weaponsandstuff93 Can you tell me what scope that is and whether or not you recommend it? Thank you
nah m8 he means the draw weight and approx pounds of energy
What's the make of the 150lb and scope type
+vampcompany It's the old Poe Lang/Man Kung 150lb Firecat crossbow, the newer models are better quality.
The scope is an air rifle scope, a Crosman 3-9x32 scope but it works fine on the crossbow.
todays my 13th bday and i want a cabelas crossbow cause my dad works there so i can get a discount its 350$ i have 75 right now hope ill get it yay
Did you ever get it now you are probably 19?
Nasty...
Yeah either one would be a fatal wound.
Oh hey it’s cool uncle
Seriously a crossbow weigh 150pound, it's a weight of a average woman.
you should secure these better so they do not fall over this does not show the full power as the kinetic nergy is lost with the books falling over
