Thank you, man. Very professional explanation. I own a 2007 BMW X3 and for a month I couldn't start it up. I had to push it up in the garage because is too cold outside (living in Canada) and checked everything except the ground, then I came across your explanation, and BINGO got my car back. Great fix!!! This was my issue indeed, and i really appreciate you showing us this fix and saving me from pulling the intake manifold. This video should be at the top of the list!!!!

Man thank you sooooooo much!! I woke up two days ago she wouldn’t crank over I seen another video on here about a cas relay replaced it still no crank… can’t return the relay so cool $40 gone for no reason then grabbed a starter because that was my next guess I have the intake off everything disconnected but the starter because I didn’t realize I needed a e set to take the bolts out so then went an got them then came across your video…. Made a temp ground with the cables like you suggests and she wanted to fire right up…..I am so thankful and just wish I would of found your video sooner but thank you for the very detailed and resourceful knowledge that’s what everyone should do if this don’t work then try this or this or this no one cares that much you definitely are doing it right ! I haven’t watched any of your other videos but if it’s as detailed and helpful as this one was then congrats and thank you very much for actually making a helpful troubleshoot video!!!
Man thanks alot ive been a maint tech for 30 years and no one has ever explained how to troubleshoot a voltage drop like you did in this video definitely gonna help me out on this 745 and so much more in the future Thanks
you are right .i got burned bought new battery and my problem was the ground cable ,when i changed the head gasket on my 330ci raised the engine for easy access to remove exhast manifold and disconected the ground from chassi and later forget to connect it and was getting no crank.im a big fan of your videos very educational and helpful thank you.
Thank you very much Abdul! The ground is such an easy thing to over look. Sounds like you did a great job figuring it out. Many people replace the starter which is a lot more time consuming than a battery.
Excellent diagnosis. I've got a friend with a Ford ranger. He went to the grocery store last night and his truck would not start. Battery seemed good. We clean the battery terminals a little bit but it made no difference. The ground to the front core support is rusty, so I wouldn't be surprised if an engine ground is bad also. The truck has those clamp type battery terminals. The kind when you put the bare wires into the terminal and tighten them down. They look kind of iffy. I think I'll go down to the store and pick up some new ones and clean all the connections. Tho the pickup itself doesn't have much rust at all, the ground connections could. Living on the coast has its benefits but also....... ...some "negative" problems. 😂 Thanks again, well done. 👍
Thanks a lot for your video by watching it yesterday evening Alhamdoulilah I fixed my bmw e39 for no crank no start I put a jump cable to the chasi and to engine and I happy after being worked on it for 5 days my self no crank but your video makes it crank and start Thanks a lot
U are the best u saved me 2000 10 days I was going crazy to start my m3 2003 thank u so much please let me how to fix the ground cable and where to find it thank u
After seen your video I have check the voltage on the battery and then on the front but on multimeter it was -0.08 and then realize the cables might be cut and on the back notice that one of the cables was lose. So I manage to start the car now. Just to mention my car only had a click sound when I tried to started. Thanks Bro
Watched your whole video that was great that you found the culprit. My e92 had a similar problem but wasn’t the ground wire after changing the starter and push button and still not starting my friend certified bmw mechanic told me to replace the fuel pump along with the fuel filter soon as I did that the car started up . The e92 is notorious for it from what all mechanics have told me and I’m not the only person with the same problems my friends n52 x1 bmw did the same thing within owning it for 5 years but luckily knew what was wrong with it and he had the same parts I had replaced replaced as well with the same list of problems . Those cars aren’t reliable I guess unless you have money to keep them maintained most of the parts are plastic so they crap out in you fast . But yeah great video in the future if I ever run into these problems I’ll know to double check the grounding of the vehicle as well thank you !
Hello, Great you where able to solve your issue. I would think with a fuel pump issue it would be a crank no start issue but BMWs do some odd things! Make sure to check out my recent videos with my current giveaway still running!
@@AskTheCarExperts after looking everywhere...and I mean everywhere for what the possibilities for why no crank other than the usual suspects (bad battery, cables, the dreaded seized engine) i stumbled upon this video and sure enough I had a poor chassis ground!! Thanks again!!
2023 still workin. Had a no crank no start just put a fuse with 30v to my ews starter pins car cranked over for the first time in months didn’t start but we went a step forward. thank you a million for this 🙏🏽
Great troubleshooting with the practical application of knowledge. Sharing experience, insight and though process was very, very helpful. I was able to apply what I learned to solve a starter grounding issue in a different vehicle. Thank you from a new subcriber!
Thank you :) I would love to hear if this helped you solve the issue with your vehicle or your current diagnostic steps and what you found. Looking forward to hearing more details. Best regards, Roger
Thanks for the video I got several BMW thru the years 3 series and X3 and X5 I noticed that on E9x series of cars It causes some fault in one particular module I can’t remember what module But when you do a full scan you will see it one time I got a X5 Diesel with a no crank no start L did a full scan of all module and the engine module had a lot of fault if I remember all glow plugs and think injectors faults too I did the booster cable trick and the engine started right away but when I do the booster cable trick and I doesn’t work then I go and remove the junction box cover on the passenger side to see if I have 12 volt when the key is in the crank position obviously you have to find the correct wireing diagram and I think that on most BMW the alternator stud shares power with the starter positive terminal. Nice job of explaining the voltage drop concept.
Hello, Typically it would not cause a no communication with the DDE or DME. All power and grounds to the DDE need to be checked and the communication CAN bus.
Thanks for posting! Is there anything else to check? We have nearly an identical car to yours here. 1999 328i E46. Had our starter, alternator and battery all replaced. Started a few times then won’t even turn. Tried your jumper cable solution, but nothing doing. Does that indicate another issue? Thanks so much for your expertise, really appreciate you sharing these secrets that the experts seldom know about. Makes it kind of exciting to work on the car even though I’m not terribly skilled at car repair, ha ha! Thanks again
Hello, Do you have a test light in order to do the check in the video if the test light lights up? Maybe your ground was not sufficient. How long has the vehicle been sitting? Hopefully the issue is not internal engine. You can see if the engine turns over with a breaker bar. Turn in the clockwise direction when facing the engine. Also when it started did it run or just crank? How long did it crank? Sorry lots of questions 😀
@@AskTheCarExperts wow, thanks for such a quick response! Just got a test light today, hopefully it gives some more insight when we try again. Sorry, still pretty new to the world of car repair, what is a breaker bar? Thanks again!
@@AskTheCarExperts hey hope you had a great thanksgiving! Quick update, I didn’t get a breaker bar and figured I’d have it towed in and repaired since I don’t have much time to work on it. The tow guy jumped the car from under the hood and it started (we had tried to jump from the battery in the trunk before to no avail, rookie move I’m sure, ha). Turned it off and on several times and it was fine. An hour later doesn’t turn over again. Is this somewhat useful in diagnosing the issue? Appreciate any more help you’ve got and thanks again for taking the time in the first place! Didn’t realize BMWs were so finicky 😂
Hi, Roger. i have a Toyota Surf Hilux 3rz fe engine Type 2 Fuse Box. the car has been packed for a year and half. to cut long story short, i have just replaced the timing chain kit. now when i turn on the key radio and clock switches on, but the moment i try start the car the clock and radio switches off allowing oil and battery light no check engine. i replaced my ignition switch, so check engine is back on but still no crank no start. i was just about to go purchase a new starter but your video shifted my approach. i hope this will convey the massage, my story is long and complicated. thanks for your knowledge in advance.
Hi Moagi, Crank no start issues can be complicated. Smart move with the ignition switch. To help prove your starter is bad you should check for power to the start solenoid when key is held in the start position. Also make sure the engine is not locked by turning by hand at the crank bolt.
I have similar problem with my E60 M54, currently on vacation. Yesterday working, today not anymore, still well over 12V (checked through cigarette light USB charger displaying voltage). No error messages at all. Hear relay clacking, and even some sort of spinning, assuming it's the starter motor. But I'm guessing it's the starter solenoid stuck since the car is old and nobody messed with starter. But now I'll check the motor ground first, it has to be the ground.😅 We'll see tomorrow, and thank God I took multimeter and battery booster with me too😂
@NinjaTTT A ground repair would be a lot easier than a starter. Double check battery connections, use a jumper cable as a second ground to see if it helps. In your case it may be a bad starter.
@@AskTheCarExperts thank you for the reply. I'll have to confirm the motor ground is fine because the alternator might not fill the battery or perhaps it has own negative wiring. If the ground is at fault I'm buying jump cables immediately at gas station to crank it and drive home. It might be the poor ground connection too, when cranking the solenoid need more amperage than the unloaded rotor that is spinning, not sure. And I'll tap hard the solenoid few times to see it it releases. Otherwise I'll be pushing car and put it in reverse to start it since I've parked uphill. Hope I don't get too much curious people watching this 😆
Just to update for the rest of us in similar situation. I have wiggled motor ground cable and it seemed fine, wiggled starter motor cables and few times punched a solenoid on a starter. I got it cranking again, but hear real struggle so I was positive that after 20y it's time to change. Parked car downhill just in case starter fails again and after 3 days standing still it failed. At that time I've noticed that humming noise was fuel pump running with ignition on and starter compartment was quiet. Long story short, came home and immediately went to car shop and got another rebuilded starter from their stock. Now I'm good for next few years. The old start was missing one bolt on upper connection on solenoid, maybe the starter was still good because measuring resistance on solenoid coil and the rotor coils was still good. But sice I've already had to took it off I'm better replacing the compete starter - and it was still BMW original part that worked 20 years!👍
@@AskTheCarExperts my car fired right up after I connected the jumpers I’ve been going through each electrical system but by bit for like 4 mouths trying to figure out what I did wrong so really sir thank you so much
Hi there came back home all is well in the car park in the drive way when i start the car nothing no crank but battery strong i just replace the motor starter last year the ground strap in the engine looks new the only bad ground strap i see is in the tale pipe exhaust its all gone you think that will enough to contribute not to start the car?i have a bmw x5 2011 x35i turbo any idea how many ground strap ?thanks
Hello, The ground strap on the exhaust is really only for noise interference with the radio. This would not contribute to a no start. I would still run all your basic checks. Try another key, use a jumper cable to make a new ground, check power to the starter solenoid when cranking.
@@AskTheCarExperts its start right up with jumper cable so i make a new ground cable using 4guage from autozone connect to bolt alternator and the bar strut . Thanks
What about same scenario after starter replacement and worked for 3 days then no crank no start but it is getting power and the starter Bendix is spinning but not kicking out to engage the flywheel ring gear????? 2014 x3 28i

I’ve turned it on and off above 5 times now and it’s ok but I’m afraid to take it anywhere. I keep the battery charged buy during those 2 weeks it did not make a difference. What do you think? I just did a 2016 bmw 428i. The rear passenger quarter had a lot of water in it and it shorted out the window motor. So with that the said window did not roll down so the hardtop won't go down also. I haven't found a video that addresses that issue so far. I had to remove the rear window to replace the motor with the top still up. It was hard but I did it.
Great job getting the window motor done. That is a tougher job when dealing with the top. The top will not work because of the rear glass position. The top can be manually released and put in different positions to make the job easier. Unfortunately I don't have access to a vehicle to make a video. Maybe someday!
@@AskTheCarExperts hey bro. I work at a autoglass shop. If u need anything hit me up. I work on all kinds of vehicles. 6 years in autoglass so I know a few things. I have a couple short videos on this install too. I will upload it tomorrow.
***hi boss*** 2011 328i xDrive. It was starting and running fine. After an hour, NO crank NO start. Just a “click and humming.” There is a ground (alive) when I checked the red wire that attached to the starter. Could it be the starter?
Hello, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Sounds like you still had no luck with an external ground? If so an you hear the starter click it could be a bad starter or loose connection. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Make sure the ground is good or use an external ground. Check for power to the starter or tap the starter with a long tool and sometimes you can get it to start which means the starter needs replacement.
these was a very good step, by step teaching , was able to really understand it. Thank-you so much, I am studying into auto electrical as much as posssible, these helped alot

Hello Jose, Thanks for watching my video. It sounds like you may have a parasitic drain. I have a video that helps show how to trace down a parasitic draw. ua-cam.com/video/Wy3_z1jD4JE/v-deo.html Take a look at the video and let me know if you think this may be happening to your vehicle.
I am getting code A0b2. No crank or start. Lights show in the cluster. when i push start, everything erases and comes back with a bunch of symbols in the cluster.
Hi David, To "get burned" Is an Expression used when you had a negative past experience. Before I found out I should check the engine ground FIRST before condemning and replacing a starter. 😀
My 2007 530i BMW just had the starter replaced the mechanic said but now when I go to start it it takes a minute for it to turn on it's a push button but it takes a minute like it's trying to start start and find little startup and it never did that before what does that mean
Hello Jolanda, Your vehicle should start right up when the button is pressed. It could be from a corroded ground, weak battery, bad connection, or voltage drop in the wiring between the battery and starter. I would recommend your mechanic double check his work and check the battery connections as well as the engine ground to start. Hope this helps :) Remember to subscribe
This seems to be the same issue with my 09 nissan rouge got that starter changed worked perfectly then a few weeks later random no starts. Any help you can give?
Hi Thomas, It may be the same issue as it is common on all vehicles. You can use a set of jumper cables to make a secondary ground or a test light like I show to check the engine ground. Check the battery for any loose contacts. Also check the starter install for any loose contacts.
Hello in Panama! Very true! Hi humidity would cause a lot of corrosion over time. In the north east we get a lot of road salt in the winter which also is very corrosive. Hope my video helped :)
Would you know what could be wrong with my e39 525d? Had exactly same problem. Replicated your steps. Worked once only. When I connected the jumper cable again and didn’t start
You would need to monitor voltage to the starter when the issue present. If you have voltage then the starter is failing. If no voltage then you need to trace back to EWS, Key, Transmission position. The best way to do that is with an Autel scan tool and monitor the EWS live data. Autel amzn.to/47yzN2n
Do you have any idea about the no crank no start issue on the 06-09 kia sedona. I've been flicking that bottom right pink fuse under the dash for 3 years lol. And kia tells me the want to look at it. I know they know what the issue is they just admit to it. Otherwise that video wouldn't be all over on UA-cam.
2008 x3 e83 here.. thanks for your help!! I put in a starter and still just had one click on key turn. No revs no start. I unplugged the immobilizer for 10 minutes to test it.. inconclusive. I plugged it back in, then backprobed the, black and blue wire under the steering wheel column trim collar. I was expecting to just read voltage on start but the car started perfectly! I think it must have been unplugging the immobilizer that reset it somehow! Any ideas?
Hello Taylor, Try a second key if it happens again and I would out a second ground from the engine to the frame to see if that helps. But maybe the hard reset of the EWS helped.
@@AskTheCarExperts thanks for the quick reply. I did try a spare key before unplugging the immobilizer, and it didn’t work. Either way I will be replacing the ground as well :)
Thank you for this video, I have BMW x6 35d e70 and had this issue, I now replaced the earth strap to the engine. The old one just disintigrated when I took it off. But now I have a new problem, when I try to start the car the starter motor tries to turn then stops as if the battery is flat, but it is fully charged, actually it is only a couple of months old, so I know the battery is good. If I cross the two polls on the starter motor boom the car cranks and starts! I have no voltage drop, I checked like you showed in this video, I checked all the fuses, back and front fuse boxes, I checked the Voltage control unit that sits on the battery and it is all good. Changed the starter just in case it was a bad solenoid, nope same issue, press the starter button, it starts to crank and then dies. I am lost, any ideas?
This does sound like a confusing probkem Mark. Thus may be the starter relay which supplies the activation signal to the solenoid. The starter relay is internal in the CAS module if my memory serves me right. If you put 12 volts to the starter solenoid and it cranks this could be a wire issue between the Cas and solenoid or the Cas itself.
@@AskTheCarExperts Thank you, this has helped me try to diagnose the issue a bit more, The CAS is working and sending the code to the key and it is synchronized. I have full version of Bimmer code and it shows two errors which tie into what you have said. 1: A0C1 Treider_KL_50L_KS - there is no explanation to this one. 2: 29 Dynamic stability control MK60 E5 - 5D95 Valve relay: VR open, voltage supply _VR during startup test too low (compared to UZ supply voltage terminal_15) ; fuse defective - (DSC: Valve relay control unit) Not an expert, not sure where to look but, I have checked all the fuses in both the boot fuse box and the one under the glove box. Could this be a relay or a fuse under the hood where the ECU is? Cheers, Mark
Thanks for help, you were right, it was the CAS starter relay on the board was totally fried. BMW are aware of this issue, it is caused sometimes by the earth strap from the chasis to the Engine. To anyone else with this issue, I would check your earth strap and replace with genuine BMW part, then check you CAS which is located just above the pedals, three small screws, and the CAS is just tucked up inside, ping the four clips and have a look at the board, easy to spot. CAS unit from BMW is currently £680.00 ($840.00) which comes with new keys, locks and CAS which you will need to get fitted, there is also a three week order lead time as special order from Germany. The CAS then needs to be coded to ECU, quite mission if this happens! I went for and alternative option, motortronics in the UK offer a repair service at £250.00, you get to keep the same keys as no recode, unplug and replug, 24hrs turnaround. I am in no way promoting this service, it is entirely your choice, I would recommend using genuine parts but not everyone, Including myself can afford to keep throwing money at your car. I hope this helps someone who has the same issue and helps you avoid repairs that are not needed, like new starter, power control unit and battery Thank you very much @AskTheCarExperts as without your help, I would never has found this and it would have cost me a fortune
I have a bmw x6 e71 2010 and ive replaced starter battery is good but theres a strap connected to The chassis on passenger side front just hanging not attached to motor where do I attach? I dont see a good place where its just metal all The screws on the valves have plastic between them
It turns out it I did this test and I had my light turn on my volt meter when I touched the engine with the prongs.. so I knew it was a ground issue. Sure enough, my ground strap was all corroded and broke as soon as I pulled it with my hand. Crazy. I replaced the strap with one from the auto parts store (I'm not paying 60 bucks for BMW OEM), and fired right up! Prior to replacing the strap, I changed my starter, relay, had my battery tested, and it was all a grounding issue!
Hi Gush, A bad ground or connections at the battery could cause stalling and a no crank. Check your battery connections, charge your battery fully, Do the testing as shown in the video to check your engine ground. I hope this helps 😀
@@AskTheCarExperts thank you! I actually was able to jump my starter and narrow down my issue to it being esw or transponder in my key. I found a video that unplugged the security module under the steering wheel / take a 30 fuse and clip it thin to squeeze into the connector the security module was plugged into, this basically bypassed without starting the motor but it cranked and wanted to start, meaning my issue lies in my esw or key
Hi Steve, you need to check for power to your starter motor solenoid. If no power then you would need to see where the power comes from. Ie module or ignition switch.
I have a 2000 540 manual w the m62tu engine. I have a no crank no start. Battery’s good spark plugs are good. Starter is good. Can’t tell what it is, I open the hidden voltage meter on the dash and it reads 11.5 but with a new battery. Gonna check grounds and connections next and alternator if anyone knows anything Lmk please.
Hello, I would check for power to the starter solenoid. If you are not getting power to the solenoid then you need to figure out why. It could be a key or EWS issue, it could be a starter relay ( I would have to check wiring diagrams), It could be an ignition switch, or it could be because the vehicle does not see Neutral or park position.
Hello, You only hook up from the body side ground to the engine block. If you are unsure I would not recommend trying this without correct supervision by a mechanic. If you hook up positive to ground you will short out the cable and potentially cause damage or a fire.
I been having this problem but with a dodge dart 2013... I change the starter and it's great.. not the battery either and the ground is super clean n have no rust.. is it a way we can video chat I'll pay 🤷🏽

Im having this issue on my dodge grand caravan after my starter was replace (it was cracked in half). I have to take the starter relay out and put it back in for it to start 😫
Hi Gury, It could be related to a bad ground. Do the testing as shown and it will help determine if this is the issue. The next steps would be to check for power to the solenoid when holding in start. If no power it could be a bad key, module or power supply issue.
I have a issue with my e36 328i. With my own stupidity I tried to bump start the car in gear with the starter, although it worked it didn't turn over again once I made it to the end of the driveway. Replaced the starter and no luck
Hello Flynn, Do you hear the starter doing anything when you attempt to start? Your E36 is a manual transmission?Did you mean you jump started the vehicle in gear or you used the starter to move the vehicle by cranking the engine?
@@AskTheCarExperts I don't hear the starter doing anything, I do hear the relays tick over in the glove box area. It was originally a automatic but changed to a manual. And yes I did use the starter to Move the vehicle
@@flynnnugent4012 You may have caused an issue with the vehicle rolling code. Do you have a way to reset the EWS rolling code via a scan tool? Also check power to the starter at the main power feed. Then when someone holds the key to the start position you need to check for power to the solenoid.
Ok so I have tested to see if there is power going to the solenoids and they both are reading 0 volts when turning the key in the starting position. I checked to see if power was still going to main starter and it was reading 12.4 volts.

Www.askthecarexperts.com Give me the full make model and year plus the vin and I can take a look at wiring diagrams. But you should check for voltage to the starter solenoid. You can even apply 12 volts to the solenoid and see if the engine cranks.
Alright so what if I already replaced the ground strap, and the starter, load and volt tested the battery. I tried your method of to check for voltage drop on the engine but did not have a voltage drop so ground is okay. My issue is that the starter just clicks once and does nothing. Right after I replaced the starter the car started, after I turned it off and tried to turn it on again there was again just a single click. The reason I replaced the starter was because I measured power from the signal wire to the selenoid but not from the small braided wire that runs from the selenoid to the starter thinking the selenoid was bad. Any idea what next to check ??
Hi Bart, Sorry to hear you have this starting issue. If you put a jump pack at the jump terminals does it change anything? Make sure you battery connections are clean and secure. Make sure your connections to the starter are correct. You can manually apply voltage to the starter solenoid and see if it cranks. Great video ideas for the future 😀
@@AskTheCarExperts Hi, yes I forgot to mention that, I also tried a jump pack. But the car did not start. I did some more testing today and it seems it's definitely electrical. I had 12v on the main power cable to the starter, but as soon as the key turned to start the car the test light went out on the main power cable so the starter did not get any power. And the power did not came back right away after turning the key to the off position. I then check the jump terminal (where that cable is routed from) and I had power there, then went back to the starter and there was power to the main cable, after a few times trying to start the car and losing power to that main cable I saw a tiny spark from that jump terminal. And the first try after that the car started... Any ideas what the issue is? Maybe the cable from the terminal to the starter is bad ?
Hi Brandon, You will need to check a few things. The first thing I would check is spark with a spark tester, second would be fuel pressure and fuel quality.
So many ways for a BMW to trip your ass up.. Everything from bad ground to EWS not talking to the DME. To fuses....Why you have to do the whole procedure to make sure you fix it right the first time...

Awesome Jay! Thanks for commenting!
you are right .i got burned bought new battery and my problem was the ground cable ,when i changed the head gasket on my 330ci raised the engine for easy access to remove exhast manifold and disconected the ground from chassi and later forget to connect it and was getting no crank.im a big fan of your videos very educational and helpful thank you.

After seen your video I have check the voltage on the battery and then on the front but on multimeter it was -0.08 and then realize the cables might be cut and on the back notice that one of the cables was lose. So I manage to start the car now. Just to mention my car only had a click sound when I tried to started. Thanks Bro
That is great!

Great video. I feel like I finally understand voltage Drop
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Great video, thank you for explaining about ground strap. I have one question! Does bad ground strap gives us no communication with dde?
Hello, Typically it would not cause a no communication with the DDE or DME. All power and grounds to the DDE need to be checked and the communication CAN bus.
@@AskTheCarExperts thank you for the information
Thanks for posting! Is there anything else to check?
We have nearly an identical car to yours here. 1999 328i E46. Had our starter, alternator and battery all replaced. Started a few times then won’t even turn. Tried your jumper cable solution, but nothing doing. Does that indicate another issue?
Thanks so much for your expertise, really appreciate you sharing these secrets that the experts seldom know about. Makes it kind of exciting to work on the car even though I’m not terribly skilled at car repair, ha ha!

@@thejoosisloos A breaker bar is just a long handle with an adapter for the socket to turn the engine over by hand at the crank bolt.
@@AskTheCarExperts awesome, thanks again for your help, I’ll give it a try 👍🏻
But sice I've already had to took it off I'm better replacing the compete starter - and it was still BMW original part that worked 20 years!👍
I come across that too an a customer car great advice the beaded wire was bad

Hello, The ground strap on the exhaust is really only for noise interference with the radio. This would not contribute to a no start. I would still run all your basic checks. Try another key, use a jumper cable to make a new ground, check power to the starter solenoid when cranking.

Hello, The ignition switch was very common to get a dead spot. But it is hard to say 100 percent.
Roger thank you for your reply. Steven

Just a “click and humming.”
There is a ground (alive) when I checked the red wire that attached to the starter.

I heard Roger say he got burned before. What does he mean by saying that?
Hi David, To "get burned" Is an Expression used when you had a negative past experience. Before I found out I should check the engine ground FIRST before condemning and replacing a starter. 😀

This happening with my 08 xterra did you ever figure it out?
Also is one f brawl in my side in the tropical panama with hi humidity rust all grounds and all the electric components
Hello in Panama! Very true! Hi humidity would cause a lot of corrosion over time. In the north east we get a lot of road salt in the winter which also is very corrosive. Hope my video helped :)

And bulb shows no light when connected ground to ground on engine
You would need to monitor voltage to the starter when the issue present. If you have voltage then the starter is failing. If no voltage then you need to trace back to EWS, Key, Transmission position. The best way to do that is with an Autel scan tool and monitor the EWS live data.

I talked to a friend that worked at KIA and he said the common failure was the fuse box in the engine.
What about if I’m not getting any voltage on my jumper post under the hood?
Hi, That would be directly from your battery. Check your battery connections.

2: 29 Dynamic stability control MK60 E5 - 5D95 Valve relay: VR open, voltage supply _VR during startup test too low (compared to UZ supply voltage terminal_15) ; fuse defective - (DSC: Valve relay control unit)
Not an expert, not sure where to look but, I have checked all the fuses in both the boot fuse box and the one under the glove box.
I hope this helps someone who has the same issue and helps you avoid repairs that are not needed, like new starter, power control unit and battery

I have an 07 pickup truck I change the starter new battery and now it don't crank what can be the problem
If you could help I would appreciate it so much 🙏🏽
Hello, I would check for power to the starter solenoid. If you are not getting power to the solenoid then you need to figure out why. It could be a key or EWS issue, it could be a starter relay ( I would have to check wiring diagrams), It could be an ignition switch, or it could be because the vehicle does not see Neutral or park position.
Are you hooking up the Cables to the engine and the battery or something else? I'm not good with cars so that's why I'm asking lol
Hello, You only hook up from the body side ground to the engine block. If you are unsure I would not recommend trying this without correct supervision by a mechanic. If you hook up positive to ground you will short out the cable and potentially cause damage or a fire.

Im having this issue on my dodge grand caravan after my starter was replace (it was cracked in half). I have to take the starter relay out and put it back in for it to start 😫
Hi, if you add the ground strap does your dodge crank or the starter relay needs replacement?
Great video!
I can’t figure out my 330xi, fuses are good, relays are good, got a new battery. Still no crank no start. Car won’t crank at all not even a bit.
Hello, This could be an issue with the CAS module output to the starter or a bad starter. Check for voltage to the starter solenoid when cranking.
Hey guys, is this applying for the bmw 528i ?? No start, no cracks we replace starter, alternator and nothing ☹️☹️ olease help
Hi Gury, It could be related to a bad ground. Do the testing as shown and it will help determine if this is the issue. The next steps would be to check for power to the solenoid when holding in start. If no power it could be a bad key, module or power supply issue.
@@AskTheCarExperts thanks to reply too fast !! 👍🏻any easy way to check the power solenoid ?
@@gury0771 No easy way unfortunately. You need to access the starter to do this test or check the output at the Cas/Fem
@@AskTheCarExperts Thanks Mr. Tech, guess what, I did what I see on your video and saaass , car is on the road 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
@@AskTheCarExperts thanks I'll check the voltage to the starter solenoid first and then check with the scan tool. I'll let you know how it goes
Ok so I have tested to see if there is power going to the solenoids and they both are reading 0 volts when turning the key in the starting position. I checked to see if power was still going to main starter and it was reading 12.4 volts.
What if there's a click in the fuse/relay box
That would mean the relay is activating but you could still have a voltage drop in the relay
@@AskTheCarExperts everything in my car works power alarm etc. Replaced a lot of stuff like alternator sensors etc. But my car doesn't start, all it does is that click in the relay box and the check engine light stays on flashing. I'm about to give up.
@@yosefortez4009 What make and model? Did you check for voltage to the starter when key held in start?
@@AskTheCarExperts 2005 Chrysler 300c 5.7 v8. Battery it's at the trunk like your BMW. I performed all your test except that one.

Give me the full make model and year plus the vin and I can take a look at wiring diagrams.
I bet the guy with the X3 had a bad ignition switch. That’s more common than a failed ground wire that rotted off.
That is a lot less common. Most X3s I have seen have been corroded grounds.
please help no crank with a 2013 camaro
Hello Roberto what tests have you performed?
I have an Audi a8 hopefully it fixes her
Hi Zigs, I hope my video helps. Bad grounds are the most over looked failures for a no crank no start.
Still no lick.
Not sure what to do.
Hello Jeffery, sorry for the late reply. Getting caught up on some older posts. Did you still need help with your no start or did you get it resolved?
Pops over every time
Thats shit is solved with o e big three 😎😜
LOL Awesome!
My bmw 325i 04 will crank but won’t start
Hi Brandon, You will need to check a few things. The first thing I would check is spark with a spark tester, second would be fuel pressure and fuel quality.
Thank u ill check those nd let u know
So many ways for a BMW to trip your ass up.. Everything from bad ground to EWS not talking to the DME. To fuses....Why you have to do the whole procedure to make sure you fix it right the first time...
LOL You are so right! There are so many things that can prevent starting! It is good to know some of the common causes to help rule them out quickly.
Uh volt drop one more time get new car or scan tool
Hello, A no crank no start situation can be very frustrating. What led up to the situation you have? What is the year and model BMW and what have you checked so far?
I charged the battery, car started. Next day car didn't start. Now not even a jump,. HEEEEELLLLPPPPP
Hello, I can try to help when I have availability. You can reach out to me via my website www.askthecarexperts.com. provide as much info as possible.
