This is a take that I can get behind 100%. The only reason people started hating on Star Wars is because they’ve complicated it all themselves by caring wayyy too much about the “canon” and the expanded stuff. If you give me John Williams and some lightsabers, I’m happy as can be haha

Going back to the sequels... I think a big part of why people hated them is because fan theories and questions ran wild after TFA and everyone got pissed off that TLJ made all the fan theories wrong and didn't answer any of the questions... so maybe the fans needed not have so many expectations. I rewatched them recently and found that if I stopped the analytical "This isn't what I expected!" thinking, I found them quite enjoyable.

    • @JonesVibes

BOOM - Yup. This is pretty much my exact thinking as well haha. I didn’t like TLJ at first because it “wasn’t what I wanted it to be” but after a bit of time, I’ve grown to love it for “what it is”. A lot of people out there just got swept up in the backlash and never snapped out of it.

It could’ve also been that they changed Luke into something barely recognizable, not bc they actually wanted to do something different, but bc they couldn’t figure out how to insert him the right way without overshadowing everything else.
Look, enjoy the sequel trilogy for what it is if you so desire, and we can talk about the actual positives all day…but let’s not act like Luke was done well.

When you view Star Wars as an allegory for religions that turn into cults before they eventually return to their better roots, then episodes 7-9 add another layer of depth and beauty to a story that already has poetic moments of tragedy and redemption.

People love to critique the 'Star Wars' sequel film trilogy for not having been fully planned out, but neither were the other 2 'Star Wars' film trilogies. George Lucas didn't come up with Darth Vader secretly being Anakin Skywalker until he wrote the script for 'Star Wars - Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back' after 'Star Wars - Episode 4: A New Hope' was released, and he didn't come up with Luke and Leia being biological siblings until he wrote the script for 'Star Wars - Episode 6: Return of The Jedi' after 'Star Wars - Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back' was released. However, the concept of Rey being Darth Sidious's granddaughter was actually thrown around while 'Star Wars - Episode 7: The Force Awakens' was being made, in addition to the concept of Rey being a Kenobi.

It did however have a general direction because it was all under one unified vision under George Lucas. In fact, aspects of the core political themes and world building of Star Wars was known since before the first movie being released. Palpatine turning the Republic into the Empire and becoming Emperor? That back story was set in stone as the novelisation proves. Also of note, the sequel trilogy have to be good sequels to the OT and PT, meaning unlike the OT it simply doesn't have the same lee way. It needs to conclude the core themes of SW and advance the grand narrative and world the previous 6 films created. That is something they CATEGORICALLY failed at because guess what? Disney and JJ wanted to rehash the OT because to them that was what people wanted to see and would make money. Its failure is not just in execution, the sequels are bad from their conception the moment Disney mandated JJ scrap Lucas's outlines.

George Lucas had a draft for six films: he had enough foundational lore to build a saga upon. Even if he had to make drastic changes he didn’t anticipate on A New Hope being the success it was
JJ and George’s situations are not the same!

I think what a lot of people don't consider is that this is a sequel trilogy to a cinematic classic...so it would have higher expectations than a random trilogy of original work. In that way I can see where the fans are coming from, because these are previously beloved characters. The creators of these films I believe were more focused on the new characters than the legacy ones.

@@JonesVibesi wish to tell you why they suck.
      Chapter I:
      The Force Awakens
Not only that starkiller base is a ripoff death star, but there is the old man, who dies to the villains minion, who is a guy in a black suit and helmet. Also, there is bb8, who recieved important information from some resistance pilot, and came to some random girl on a desert planet. Also, where the hell did the first order come from. Hux is a ripoff Tarkin, and snoke of palpatine.
      Chapter II:
      The Last Jedi
      Part 1: wasted oppurtunities
They had snoke, who was mysterious and interesting in the force awakens, and they just slice him in half, while we have no explanation of who he is, why is he like this and even what he is. Then we have hux. A cool villain, but he just gets bullied in the last two movies.
Part 2: the battle of crait
This sucked. It just sucked. They tried making this like the battle of hoth. They failed. Let me explain. Finn is going to make the most heroic sacrifice. He was going to save the resistance, but then, rose sweeps in, almost killing him by ramming into him at 100 kilometers per hour, and has a stupid speech about "its about saving what you love" yeah, thats what he was trying to do, and the at ats are watching from above, just waiting for finn and rose to escape. Just no.
      Part 3: jake skywalker
"Thats not my luke" mark hamill said this in an interview, and i completely agree. This is not like luke from rotj. Luke couldve killed darth vader, and sidious, but he didnt. He wouldnt have just walked to ben and said "hey, im abouta kill you." Thats not luke. Also, he wont just not be in the conflict. He would help the resistance.
      Chapter 3
      The rise of skywalker
      Part 1:
      Somehow palpatine returned
What about anakin? This is a question many of you sequel fans ignore. The prophecy was not misread. Anakin would bring balance to the force, and kill sidioud. But no, somehow palpatine returned. They realy tried to ignore the prequels in this one
      Part 2: im the spy
General hux literally killed 155 BILLION people and became a spy. Why.
      Just why.
And he gets even more bullying in this movie.
Part 3: im rey. Rey skywalker.
That scene absolutely sucked. She commited identity fraud. Thats it. Who is the skywalker that rises in this movie? SHE'S A PALPATINE FOR GOD'S SAKE. What does Skywalker even mean anymore?

Most of those "quoting someone else's opninions about the films" are their own opinions of disliking the films, just so happens most of the fans agree they were mostly bad. And they were, but for me my hatred of the Sequels isn't blind anger, it's actually stemmed from a deep sadness, to see that the hard work of the old EU was thrown out for logical need to start over post Endor, only to see that wasted with a poorly planned trilogy and to see George's legacy crapped on by those who clearly don't care to be faithful to his work, and even sadder is that all the work of those who did have actual passion ended up wasted thanks to mismanagement and higher ups not nowing what they were really doing, seeing that there was potential in some of the ideas these films did. SImply put an utter betrayal of the hardcore fans, George, and this trilogy and the wor put into it an utter wasted potential. That's why I hate the Sequels, because they're not just bad films but something far worse then bad. If they were just bad but at least a faithful failed attempt I'd have loved them. But they weren't.

How the Force works. We must hear what Maz Kanata says to Rey. "I'm not a Jedi but I know the Force it moves and surrounds all living things." Here we have two things. 1) The Force with its flowing is the source of life and the stopping of this flow means death. 2) At the same time the Force sorrounds all living things and this part of the Force allows the Force users to achieve things that looks like magic, after a proper training. The best example would be the telephone system of a city in which all telephones are connected but this connection is usually in standby mode. To start a specific connection you need an unique secuense of numbers. There are two ways to do so. Someone who knows how teach you. The other way is trying anb failing until you get the correct way.

@@saintfreezy6914Although I like the sequels as well, (Not as much but I do) I have to admit that there’s no excuse for the whole "no planning in advance" part since they *knew* what they were getting themselves into. The first Star Wars wasn’t even expected to be a hit and the original trilogy was the only thing like it at the time before that became its main foundation. And as flawed as the prequels were, at least they stuck with the basic ideas. For a company like Disney in particular, this whole situation is especially more embarrassing for everyone involved. It’s not just one person or company that mismanaged their forward thinking, it was everyone and everything. I’m willing to bet that there was too much pressure or little time to do it and that they were being too confident, considering they got you know, *Star Wars.*
Unlike most people though, I’m not criticizing the sequels because I dislike them, I’m criticizing them because I think there’s still better material yet to be made out of the existing movies we already have. I’m especially curious to see how fan edits will turn out for those films in particular to make them feel more consistent.

When the movie has faults I instantly start wondering who..what went wrong.
I have watched many good movies with an idea of what to expect and thought they were no good..Later I have watched it again and thought that was very good. I try very hard to watch no previews at all for new movies..then I am watching something that could go anywhere..not just waiting to see what I felt from a preview. It is actually very common for an audience to not dislike something as much the second time around. There has been some entertainment study on this😁 You see a reader or movie goer is more likely to be affected or disappointed when first dealing with negativity. The second time around the person is already prepared for the negative emotions so they are less likely to feel as upset. That's why you'll hear fans of a book or movie say "It wasn't so bad this time," or "I enjoyed it more the second time around." There is also the traditional "I guess the end wasn't so bad." I am speaking about a statistically common response, of course everyone is different...and the reactions of someone enjoying something the first time around is different.

Kylo recognizes that Smoke is awared of his feeling. 2) Remember when Smoke told Kylo "you have compassion for her ", Kylo denies it. 3) Snoke tells Kylo "you have too much of your father's heart in your. Kylo replies " I killed Han Solo...". The real meaning is that Kylo felt remourse. From all these is clear that Kylo is under Snoke surveillance all the time. Add to this insults like " child in a mask". the fact that Kylo must be neeled before Snoke presence, and always doing the dirty job. Their relation is not teacher to apprentice but master to slave. as someone who had basically the opposite sequel-watching experience from most fans, this was pretty insightful to me. I thought TFA was mediocre when I first saw it so I had 0 built-up expectations for TLJ. Because of that, I absolutely loved TLJ on my first viewing (and it made me retroactively appreciate TFA way more), which ended up putting me in the same position that led everyone to hate it, which was those specific expectations that would ruin the next movie if they weren't met. Now tbf, I've wanted to give the benefit of the doubt to TROS for a while now purely because I know there's no way I haven't exaggerated how bad it is to myself over the years, but I'm genuinely only now realizing that the reason I did that was because I've been doing the exact same thing that I criticised people for doing to TLJ, which is hating it because it wasn't what I expected. Most of the "objective" flaws in it I was willing to look past, especially cause I've done the same with the prequels for years, but I just couldn't get over how it didn't go the direction I wanted. I think I'll give the whole trilogy another watch and see how it fits in as a whole without having years to build up expectations beforehand. And even if I still don't like it, it'll be a lot easier to live with 1 bad movie when I don't have such a grudge against it for arbitrary reasons

Here I have another example about images. Why Rey didn't take Ben's hand after their fighting with the Smoke's guards. Remember what happened when they touched hands. Rey offers her hand to Ben, the camera focus on his.hand and we can see Ben taking off the glove of his hand and touching Rey's hand. We see Ben offering his hand to Rey and the camera focus on Ben's hand and now we can see that his hand has the glove on. This means that what Ben is offering now is not the same as he did before, in other words he is braking the promise he made when they touched hands. Later we see Rey with the broken lightsaber in her hands a clear sign of Rey's broken heart, then (with envy?) She sees Finn taking care of Rose. And we can bet that Rey's most yearning desire at that moment was to have Ben at her side taking care of the burn on her shoulder.

The Last Jedi had me so excited and happy when I walked out of the theater, more than any of the other movies (I was the age where I got to see the OT in theaters in the late 90’s), and I still think it’s the best sequel movie and rank it 2nd place of all SW movies after Return of the Jedi.
Rise of Skywalker, on the hand, had me walking out of the theater feeling just ho-hum… but then I kept seeing it in theaters, a total 6 times, and the movie kept growing on me. It has major flaws, but what makes it amazing is that the good parts are SO good that they easily outweigh the flaws. I really came to embrace Palpatine’s return and it reframed the entire saga as three generations of Skywalker being harassed by this mad man, and it’s so satisfying seeing him obliterated and all the acolytes just buried in rubble, it feels like a culmination of victory over the phantom menace. And the rest of the movie could have been utter trash but as long as it had the thread of Rey/Kylo/Ben I would still enjoy it. The sequel trilogy is Han, Luke, and finally Leia all giving their lives to make some dent in Ben’s heart, and the payoff of his redemption was so bittersweet. John Williams theme for the movie is beautiful and reflects the final resolution of the light vs dark and is so peaceful and reassuring.

After the set up in the throne room and history between Luke and Kylo I was expecting more interactions between them to come. But alas he died! There's no way of knowing now, but I would bet money that if the sequel trilogy had not made the fate of the legacy heroes so bleak fans would not have cared as much about the other defects of the films. It's not as noticeable at first, but by the end of Rise of the Skywalker it bluntly clear that the Solos and Skywalkers are dead after a tormented life.

Congratulations for this video. I'm a Star Wars fan from the very first movie in 1977. One of the feashures of these movies is the fact that the dialogues are ambiguous. For example when Smoke told Kylo "you have compassion for her". The real meaning is "you are falling in love with her". At the same time images are important, remember the old saying "an image is worth for thousand words".Most people fails at this point. For example the third Force bond or the shirtless scene. Rey asks Kylo to put something on, but does nothing. This means that he has nothing to hide, in other words he is going to be sincere and honest with Rey. But there is more, his shirt is black but his skin is white, a clear sign that there is still light in Kylo.

I think the real issue a load of star wars fans have is that they're incapable of hearing out what the otherside that likes the sequels has to say. I'm in the discord group and my friends put all 3 sequel films in F tier. And you make a good point of saying people focus on what the sequels aren't, instead of what they are. I enjoyed my time with TLJ, but the negativity swooned me the other way and when I saw TROS, I was so pessimistic going in that I had a bad time. Rewatching the film with a more open mindset. It went from 5/10 to like 7 - 9/10. Because I actually had fun this time around. Negativity on the Internet is super monetizeable, it's why you see videos like cosmonaut variety hour get millions of views. It pays money to be angry, but it takes away personal enjoyment, fun. Something that all 3 trilogies strife towards, star wars has gotten so huge, that it almost feels like a different reality that should welcome anyone, no matter what hardships they had to go through. We as fans, need to be more welcoming, more optimistic

Just because a movie can be solved like a puzzle, doesn’t mean it will be instantly loved by those who do, because they can still find it bad with bad writing because the story wasn’t that interesting, and these sequels in my opinion don’t deserve that much of a chance because the stories were either far too similar to other movies before it or took the series in another direction and ignored a lot of what came before.

They don’t say TFA is A New Hope for nothing, because they do play out similarly. Check it out, this is a LONG ONE lol.
Main darksider in black garb serving a fascist establishment storms his way into a place where rebels/resistors are holding down so he can find data that could deliver a crushing blow to the fascist organization. Main resistor hides said data in a cute lil droid and the droid flees across the desert on its own. MD interrogates a rebel who withholds info before killing him, then proceeds to captures the important rebel figure before sending troops across the desert to find the droid carrying the data. Meanwhile a lonesome desert inhabitant does the daily grind, if you wanna call it that, plays with some flying themed thing hoping to embody that one day, then has the droid land in their lap. Feeling tied down by family, they seek to deliver the droid to a town where they can get better help. They run into Han Solo and Chewbacca so they can have Han deliver them to high ranking rebels-sorry, resistors. Along the way, the former desert inhabitant learns of the Jedi and the force from an old man who lived to see their glory, and they wonder if their destiny lies therein, initially running from it. In Rey’s case literally lol.
The leading fascist official makes the call to have a giant superweapon shoot a laser that destroys a resistor-sympathizing sovereign planet/system. The main darksider watches with apathy. The other resistors watch with horror and realize this thing needs to be destroyed. Han, Chewie, and their new friends decide they need to rescue the captured figure before shit hits the fan…and as they’re getting away the old man with ties to the darksider in black garb is killed by said darksider. After they get away, pilots come to the superweapon to do a trench run and shoot a shot that will destroy said superweapon in one fell swoop.
There’s even more to it than that, and OBVIOUSLY there are differences, like rogue stormtrooper Finn being there to make it so Poe escapes early and Rey takes his place as the captured one who needs a ride home. There are also elements of ESB mixed in.
If you can’t see that, I can’t help you. 😂 and don’t say it does matter, cuz you didn’t say it wouldn’t matter, you said it just didn’t happen (and I ain’t mad at it, you just didn’t know, iss cool)

@JonesVibes I think between Maul and Palpatine there is a huge difference. Although I always believed bringing Maul back didn't make sense however it somehow worked because his character arcs were pretty good.
The problem with Palpatine coming back is how it undermines the emotional scene of vader sacrificing himself to save luke and throwing the emperor down the reactor shaft. It was a poetic end to the sith and the completion of the chosen one destiny. So when Palpatine did return it makes sense that people would be annoyed as it kind of felt like the whole climax of return of the jedi was being undone so they could have a final antagonist for the 9th villain. (Which i doubt they planned for, hence another reason why ppl aren't happy).
It's also why I didn't like when they killed snoke that easily as they could have easily used him instead of recycling old star wars plots

It breaks my heart that it was so misunderstood and maliciously represented on the Webs by some creators of dubious repute. The key thing is - it is a fairy tale in space, as all mainline movies have been. The scene with Leia is magical. The scene with Yoda is likewise magical. The scene with Luke's apparition on Crait - supreme fairy tale magic.

It's important to remember that a lot of people's hands were in the creative process of these movies, in the orginal Star George Lucas had more creative control. Expectations were definitely a flaw from this trilogy. The funny thing is, if somebody assumed their theories or expectations were validated by "The Last Jedi", they also assumed such expectations were invalidated when they watched "The Rise of Skywalker". The inverse was also true.
But isn't it ironic that people assumed after THE MIDDLE CHAPTER that Rey's story of her heritage was over, when there was still one more movie left?
If there's one thing "Return of the Jedi" should have shown Star Wars fans, it's that things can be turned on their head in an instant to make sense, even if it doesn't make sense at the time (Leia being Luke's sister is the biggest example).
Still, it proves that something that seems contradictory because of expectations can be viewed as consistent, especially if later materials can fill in the holes to eventually make it make sense.

It's quite funny that the sequel haters are the same people who hated the prequel trilogy so much to the point where they wanted George Lucas to lose control of the franchise. This is why the phrase “be careful what you wish for” exists because in 2012 those haters got their wish and hyped up the sequels but when they saw the movies 😱😱😱 “oh no Disney ruined Star Wars bring back George Lucas”. So after years of being absolutely cruel to George Lucas and wanting him gone they now suddenly want him back 😂😂😂 and yet they clearly don’t realize that some scars don’t heal. Do these haters and fake fans really think George Lucas just suddenly forgot all the pain the fans inflicted upon him? No, he even stated in an interview that there's no point in making a movie if people are just going to hate it. George Lucas gave up on Star Wars the moment he gave the franchise to Disney but these haters refuse to accept he’s never coming back. The haters and fake fans are nothing but hypocrites they hated the prequels and pretended that they never once said anything bad about them now the sequels exist. Besides, in George’s original sequels, Leia would’ve been the Chosen One which would’ve made Anakin’s sacrifice and his character completely irrelevant. Oh wait but the haters actually love that concept because George Lucas came up with it the same guy who “ruined” Star Wars with the prequels. The Prequels Trilogy was a good premise executed poorly. The Sequel Trilogy is bad premise executed well.
One of the most infuriating things is that Rey can do everything and has almost no setbacks that have any lasting effect. Anakin and Luke lost limbs. Vader lost entire limbs and was burned. Rey nothing.
Look at Luke in A New Hope. He was a f' up. Whining that he'd rather be at Toshi station picking up inverters, removes the droid retaining bolt but forgets to put it back on, then goes out in to sand people areas nearly dying, gives attitude in one of the seediest bars, comes up with the disastrous plan to get into a Death Star detention level with no plan of escape, shoots the foot bridge control panel in the DS before activating it. It's only at the Battle of Yavin that he really did make good decisions to become the hero.
Rey just knows it ALL well including not only resisting Kylo's mind penetration but turned it on him and she took him when he has years of Dark Side training and holds her own with no training. I could go about The Force Awakens. The problem is that Rey had no room to grow and develop as a character. Sure, she learned new information, but she had most of her power by the end of the first movie. She's boring and that's sad that they did that to the first female lead Jedi.
Ahsoka on the other hand is in an animated show that was a much better female character. She was annoying at first and messed up accidently getting clones killed here and there. By the end of the show run she became one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars. She had room to grow over the show. The last four episodes of the last season of The Clone Wars is some of the best Star Wars there's ever been if you paid you dues by watching the some of the earlier season's episodes (there are list to help you watch the key storylines leading up to that last season. Anyway, I digress.
Now, with all that said, Disney will not wait 15 years to put out an updated version of the Sequel Trilogy. From what I hear, the revamp will be before the end of the decade, and they will give Rey another movie set ten years of the Sequel Trilogy. I'm confident this new movie will get it right and leave Rey with a final movie that is not the dumpster fire that TRoS is. I doubt they can fix the Sequel Trilogy for me, but I hope so.
    Rant over.
By the way, if you want to see another show with well written female characters watch "Arcane" S1 on Netflix.

To me, all 3 sequels are the most understood pieces of Star Wars. They're all great storytellers, people just don't understand them or aren't looking closely. They're all really high on my Star Wars movie rankings, and I have no shame in saying that The Rise of Skywalker is my 2nd favorite Star Wars film. Watching that film in theaters opening weekend was one of my favorite experiences in a movie theater. I just wish the trilogy was planned out more, but I still accepted these movies for what they are and I still love them regardless of all the problems that they have.

That’s amazing to hear. Everyone has their own experiences with film and that’s what’s so awesome about it. I agree with you that they could have been planned out a little better. It just seems like people use that as their main flaw and because of it, all of the movies are terrible. When in reality, I love them! Sure things could be better but I’m pretty darn happy with what we got and excited for the future. Thanks for commenting!

I think the Rise of Skywalker is the very worst Star Wars movie. It was everything wrong with the franchise jammed into one big movie. It had some of the worst lines ever, the worst final battle ever in the series and the worst decisions ever made. Bringing Palpatine back, making Rey even more of a Mary Sue, making Finn useless, and that entire Imperial fleet coming out of nowhere were some of the worst decisions ever made.

*Yikes* that’s a lot of dislikes. Clearly the vast majority of people did not watch through the whole video…
Anyways, I mostly agree. I’m not against most of the ideas, even some low effort ones like Palpatine returning and Rey adopting the name Skywalker. The problem with it all for me is that it’s not all consistent with each other as much as the other two trilogies were. It often times felt like these films were having an identity crisis, and it really didn’t have to be that way if they planned more ahead and wrote more material. There are still better films in here than most people realize, it’s why I’m particularly excited to see "Fixing Disney’s Star Wars" take on it, and why I’m a big fan of fan films like Kylo Ren vs. "Darth Vader". Having it all more connected and with less Special Edition-ish bits I feel would help elevate these movies to a much better overall quality. Having even more smaller connective tissue like Admiral Ackbar being the one to sacrifice himself instead of Holdo too could also help. I have problems with the Kenobi show too but still think there’s also good enough material there with people piecing it together better like PixelJoker95 is doing.
I do understand why people dislike them the way they do though, and it’s because people like us shouldn’t *have* to fix Star Wars. It’s why people are sticking up more for the prequels and Special Editions, because they still tell a good enough story to look through all of that. (Even though there already are other edits like AOTC’s The Jedi’s Apprentice, Despecialized Editions, and Adywan to prove the exact opposite, but I digress) However if there is one thing that Star Wars has reached us and still is, it’s redemption and dealing with imperfections. Not even the juggernaut original trilogy is 100% perfect if you think hard enough. (Although it’s a lot closer to it than anything else) As flawed as the prequels and sequels are, there’s just no way you can convince me that anyone tried to set those up for failure. Yes the sequels might be more rougher in world building than the prequels, but that’s ok. I’m just someone who wants to have a good time watching films, and that’s what I ended up getting. I too was at first confused and disappointed with The Last Jedi at theaters, but I rewatched it again a year later and accepted it. I saw The Rise of Skywalker in theaters another year later and accepted it.
I believe someone like HelloGreedo said it best when he said that Star Wars is very much a generational thing. I don’t 100% agree with all of his opinions either, but now that I’m more mature and older I am able to just let myself relax and see things for how they are. There’s just far more other worse and more important things to worry about than some decent to mediocre products released with permission from tyrannical companies like Disney or Nintendo. Times change, and it’s only going to get more brutal, so anything that gives me any form of genuine happiness is a win in my book. I still hate Disney and Nintendo as companies with all of my being, forever and always, but that not gonna determine wether I like something or not. We can separate art from the artist. For example, I love the original Ren & Stimpy, (Shoutouts to OLDTPBUSER for trying to restore it) but does that automatically mean I like John K., even though there were definitely other people helping with that show? *Hell no.* Same can go for anything under a company like Disney.
I have no problem with people hating the sequels either, I only think it’s bad when people go too far with it like trying to harass or dox other people in real life. They’re just opinions ver a piece of fiction guys, nothing is hurting you from ignoring things and appreciating others. Isn’t that another big point of Star Wars, having so much variety? I mean for God’s sake, I doubt people like KOTOR for it’s gameplay as much as they do the stories, or vice versa for the Jedi Knight games. Maybe people should focus on finding what they would like instead of hyperfixating on what they don’t and making themselves more miserable for no good reason other than.to be a jerk to others with a weak and false superiority complex.
*And yes I know this is a gargantuan mountain of text, lol sorry. I’m sure no one cares, and I have no idea why I wrote all of this.*

You’re absolutely right and your POV is something that, unfortunately, a lot of fandom and society in general can lack at times. I particularly liked you saying that if you don’t like something, just don’t watch it! No need to hyper fixate on things. All that’s going to do is drag you and others down. I also loved the bit about separating the art from the artist. I honestly planned on a lot of people not watching this all the way through and getting a lot of negativity. What I love seeing is the positivity. It makes making videos like this worth it. So thank you for this comment! You’re appreciated! 👏🏼

I liked the new characters of the trilogy and Ryan Johnson's movie was a continuation of the first film. I think he gets too much hate about the movie, because Force Awakens built the foundation for it...Rey was a fun character and I liked the Kylo and Rey dynamic. As far as the legacy characters go, I agree that the fans have a legitimate complaint...they are the Star Wars heroes and they were given no real happy ending when all was said and done. They were torn down and defeated by evil and the end of the trilogy can compare the Solo/Skywalker family to a ⚰ I am sure the dark undertones would appeal to some fans. All the same, mistakes, bold moves, and death can be included with core characters without destroying them...and the substantial presence of old characters don't need to diminish new ones. When it comes to sequels if old characters are not handled like they are special, FANS are going to notice, and unfortunately they were not with these films. I think every actor of the film did a great job! I see no reason for people to be angry with each other on social media...honestly I think lovers and haters of the films both have legitimate points.
P.S. 😁Personally I was disappointed Fin's character was not explored more! Cheers!

Now I can explain how Rey healed Kylo's wound. Rey poured the Force that surrounds them over the wound focusing and concentrating it until undoing all the damage. If Kylo didn't know this technique, he was aware of what Rey was doing, so this was like a lesson to Kylo and later he do the same, saving Rey. So Ben don't have to die. I hope this is very clear now.

It's not even about the theories we had for me. It's because they completely undermined our characters and the story of Star Wars, and they just ripped off the originals. There's zero creativity, and when they come up with something new, it's pulled out their ass because there's zero explanation for it. And think about why we had these theories, the force awakens left us with questions and we wanted answers. I mean, for example, some powerful darkside user has been around probably since before the prequels yet no one's heard of him. But in the sequel timeline, suddenly he emerges outta nowhere and rebuult the empire from nothing. I don't care that he's not darth plagueis or anyone else we know, and I can stand him being a new character but there needs to be a explanation on where he came from.

A word of advice for you - Stop being a jerk to people online. You’re targeting a random person who spent 20+ hrs of work making a positive video about something that they are passionate about. Labeling, grouping and categorizing people after listening to them for 20 minutes is not a normal thing to do, nor is associating people that you don’t know with an “evil agenda”. Take a hard look in the mirror man and understand that freedom of speech online, is not free of consequence. Stop assuming that you know anything about people and maybe hold off from typing out messages like this next time. Your passion for the franchise is admirable, but there’s no need to take out your frustrations on other fans.

I was not a fan of the prequels, but I still enjoyed parts of them, and I really loved Force Awakens and Last Jedi (RoS is the weakest of the new ones in my opinion for a lot of the reasons you outlined, but still better than Phantom Menace). Over the last 9 years I’ve seen nothing but hate and toxicity come from Star Wars fans to the point where I don’t consider myself one anymore. I get not liking a movie, but nobody owns Star Wars. This constant bashing of everything Disney has done is really sickening and I don’t know why so many fans of Star Wars want it to fail. @@JonesVibes for me I see the potential of what is could have been if it was planned out, because this is STAR WARS and could have easily been going still with the fans happy if they carefully paved out the story and took the stories of the comics and made them into shows and some big ones into movies
I do like some stuff from the sequels, some, new force powers like force freeze, force mind read, force projection, and maybe force heal if done right like the night sisters and their “magic” it is just a different way of using the force so if a new faction were introduced with those abilities that would be cool and expand the universe
Force dyad, I really like even in the “Legends” EU it could have existed, for one it is rare occurrence to happen because their are quadrillions of people in the galaxy so finding your dyad in the force and being strong in the force in the first place would make it incredibly rare but believable with the stuff it gives, like Rey learning Kylo’s training when she tapped into the force and connected to him and the pull of light and dark between the two that could be an awesome story, of if one’s falls to the dark side will the other as well or will it be easier to return to the light?
For the visuals, eh it’s a given back then it’s STAR WARS, if it didn’t look great oof
Fin the potential of him, a rogue soldier from a faction that is trying to be the empire again, though that could have been better as well an example, if they were on the outer rim close to the unknown regions and found a super weapon(because the making of Star killer base would take so long and from a fragment group uh no, snokes ship most likely not, and episode nine all those ships no) RIP Fin

    • @source3nergy203
      @source3nergy203 Рік тому +1

The stuff with kylo was the best part of these movies being trained and those expectations on him and him being seduced to the dark side from Snoke ok, I didn’t however like that Luke read his mind and saw the potential of him being bad and I see your point of he had that experience before and well he had it before and now he is older and wiser and even then with the two sith and him being engrossed by the dark side from the two of them he resisted, I wish it was just Bens choice completely to abandon his Jedi ways, BUT the stuff after that with him killing his father and being torn in two and Han putting his hand on Kylo’s face just giving the I still love you making him undecided, then him killing Snoke in the second movie hinting him being the big bad in the third and him putting his hand out for Rey to take (which would have made it better and actually SUBVERTED EXPECTATIONS)…just for it to make Rey the good person in the story even though we started with Poe and Fin…and to bring Palpatine back because why not
Hmm…I see almost nothing good with the third one, except with Kylo with him and Leia reaching out to him and for him to realize both of his parents are gone and turning to the Light after forgiving himself with the thing with him seeing Han…just for us to return with the stuff with Palpatine…and if Carrie Fisher hadn’t died I think the story would have been much different but that is a sad note
Knights of Ren, in the comics they are retconned to be an existing group when in the movies they are implied to be some of Luke’s students.
The Royal guard in TLJ is eh, I just don’t get why they attack number 2 in command if he already killed number 1 and now 2 is defacto leader.
Luke hiding was Ryan’s idea when in TFA he has a map that lead to him and presumably he is training another group or the next generation of Jedi and the map he left behind is for “the good guys” otherwise Luke would face them if he didn’t train people in secret.
Snoke looks different in each movie.
General Hux is made into a joke after TFA.
Rey because of force dyad and that not being explained in the movies makes her a Mary Sue.
Fin and Poe should have swapped in TLJ.
RIP Kelly Marie Tran she didn’t deserve that onscreen and off.
Captain phasma just to sell some toys.
Everything involving Emperor Palpatine in the third one just no.
Light speed ramming redundant and just for looks (that won’t look so great in ten years).
      Rey is a Mary Sue.

Look, I can see this is a safe space for ST defenders 😅 but for anybody genuinely wondering what everyone else means by “TFA is just A New Hope” again, I can explain. I already did somewhere else here.
Check it out, this is a LONG ONE lol.
The Main darksider in black garb serving a fascist establishment storms his way into a place where rebels/resistors are holding down so he can find data that could deliver a crushing blow to the fascist organization. Along the way, the former desert inhabitant learns of the Jedi and the force from an old man-with emotional ties to the main darksider and with personal accounts of their glory-and they wonder if their destiny lies therein, initially running from it.
😂 If the only problem with the film were that it’s a copy, it wouldn’t be a big problem, you’re right…but *the real sin* is that it undoes Return of The Jedi.

The sequels just hold a really special place in my heart. While I grew up on the prequels and Clone Wars as a kid, the sequel trilogy was my first real live-action movie experience with the fans. It was a grand time being able to go in with excited crowds and get really hyped up for the movies. And even now, I still find that the movies are really great. Genuinely. They tell a really amazing and emotional story for Rey and Kylo Ren in a galaxy we all know. I do feel some stuff could have been improved (particularly with TROS), but I won’t ever support the notion that “no thought” or “no plan” or “no love” went into the sequels, as JJ and RJ both put in lots of love and great stuff in the movies and many of the beats just resonate well across the whole trilogy. And there’s way too much good stuff that just feels really under-appreciated. TROS has oddly enough become my most rewatched sequel film just because the emotional beats all hit really well and made it feel like a genuinely cathartic and worthwhile finale.
And it’s such a happy treat to see you advocating for more appreciation for the sequels. It’s just been so lonely, angering, and depressing just trying to exist as a sequel fan nowadays because of how vitriolic sequel hate has become to where it feels weird to even try to talk nicely about the sequels to even friends outside of the Internet. I know film should be subjective too, but the extreme hatred towards them that is pushed like some extreme “narrative” makes it hard for me to want to associate with people anymore regarding Star Wars. I do want people too to also try to accept or learn to love the sequels if they can. So that we can start moving away from hatred and instead towards just having fun with those movies. Or if not, at least just so we don’t have to kill each other about them and so sequel fans can actually feel welcome as fans and as human beings.

I put a lot of time into this one and I do have a passion for the sequels. It’s awesome to hear your journey with the movies and also, like you said, it’s nice to see other sequel fans. You’re absolutely right. I think that the hatred stems from a lot of different things that are problematic in society right now and so I’ve sort of made it a mission to really try to shine a light in a dark place. Regardless of what happens, at least we get to enjoy the things that make us happy! Nobody can take that away from you. Annnnddd I’m kind of stunned to hear that somebody shared my video on Reddit. @@JonesVibes Thanks! Yeah, it’s honestly really nice finding more people I can open up to about the sequels because I just want to find more people I can feel welcome around or identify with. Yes, at the end of the day, my enjoyment and my belief that the sequels are genuinely great are ones I’ll hold. I just wish that the community could be more welcoming to people like me, or just open up to the sequels more and have some fun like when we had the PT resurgence with prequel memes, and not just making memes for the sake of hatred. I do feel that a lot of internalized anger from the real world and the Internet has indelibly factored into how ST hate has become the “accepted norm.” In fact, I constantly argue that it way eclipses PT hate because it’s become so stratified by world and Internet culture and unchecked, heightened hostility. It’s a pity though because I go to Star Wars to escape the horrible things in the world, but the constant negativity and hate, particularly around the ST to a point where it even bleeds into real life, just makes Star Wars feel like a chore or some kind of bad addiction sometimes, even to where I rarely talk about it beyond only a few select FB or Reddit groups. That’s why I’m just really thankful for your video. I want to see more appreciation or even shift towards calling the sequels good, or at least a stop on hatred against the directors and ST fans, and I’m glad I found your video as I’d love it to possibly gain more traction and change some things for the better.
As for the Reddit share, there’s actually a very positivity-focused subreddit called r/starwarscantina that focuses on talking more constructively and positively about Star Wars. It’s generally really friendly and pro-ST, and it’s a great escape from most of the negativity and hate that’s taken over a lot of the fandom and Internet.

@@JonesVibes Yeah, I honestly wonder too if ST hatred will just die down eventually. I really don’t know because it feels like it’s become the “accepted norm” where basically EVERYONE, even big UA-camrs, have perpetuated this narrative to where ST fans are basically excluded or even bullied out of the conversation. And with how it’s leeched itself basically everywhere, I don’t really know. It’s hard to both block it out or try to “engage in a civil manner”, because it just seeps in even with off comments when I don’t want it, and most people immediately resort to insults or threats. I’ve tried countering ST hate myself in other places, but it just feels worthless with how overbearing it is. I can’t even see myself being able to engage with fans for the most part anymore, in a civil manner: after so many years of hate and abuse by the fanbase, I’ve essentially just come to hate everyone. I hate that it’s come to that for me too, but given everything that has gone on for Star Wars, hate against most of the fanbase feels like all I rationally have left.
I can’t effectively block it out, but I can easily just fall back on other hobbies or interests/communities. To put it bluntly, I’d basically just say “fuck Star Wars fans” and go towards other communities where I also am enjoying the content or the people there. While the Star Wars fanbase is too toxic for engagement, I’ve found much more positive and worthwhile time with people in fandoms for other games or shows. In such cases, those fanbases have that same genuine spirit of excitement and happiness that Star Wars used to give me all those years ago.

I feel that, in my opinion, these are the best films in Star Wars. Yes, they have a ton of problems, but the story, the messages that were shown. Be who you are, don’t put yourself in another’s shoes. Some things are stronger than blood. Family is what you choose it to be. Let the past die. (Except palpatine ig 😂) But ironically, the movie I make the most fun of is my favourite movie, and makes me feel the most emotional. I love these movies, I love Rey, I love TROS. I think people need to stop looking from a critical perspective, and more from a fans frame of mind. Love the video man, keep up the great work!💛❤️💙

I completely disagree. I think these movies are the worst that Star Wars has to offer. I think the stories in these movies are terrible. We have had movies about thinking for yourself and being what you want to be, but they are executed in such contrived ways. Also, every single hero and villain in these movies are not at all compelling. The heroes are either too perfect or are just outright useless, while the villains are very incompetent, and have no motivations outside of being Empire wannabees. The removal of the New Republic and bringing back Palpatine was some of the worst decisions ever made. Also, the Rise of Skywalker is by far the worst Star Wars movie ever made. Worse than any prequel. It undos so much from the Original Trilogy and just throws in fan service and nostalgia everywhere to try to win back fans after The Last Jedi, which was also not very good. Also, don’t tell us to not look from a critical perspective and look from a fan’s frame of mind, especially if the film is that bad. It really doesn’t make any difference how we would see the film anyway. Some fans just want to defend anything, even if the movie is trash.

@@captainhowlerwilson508 Star Wars fans have legitimate complaints...
      1. These were SEQUELS, so of course any character inconsistencies would be seen as a betrayal to the Star Wars canon universe.
      2. These were sequels to a cinematic classic so it's only natural that the audience would except another masterpiece.
I believe fans would have forgiven similarities of the movies to previous ones, cheating with force rules, vague politics, and unexpected twists if The original Star Wars heroes would have been treated like...heroes. I loved Rey's character, having a female protagonist wasn't the problem and even not having a plan is not fatal, if the plan would have been to give the legacy characters a hopeful legacy. The movies were fine for a new audience because the new characters were fantastic though sadly many new fans were disappointed with the end of their arcs in Rise of the Skywalker. In my mind Rise of the Skywalker was bound to be disappointing, there was no way it could satisfactorily conclude the arcs of the last two films, or provide closure for the legacy family...much less conclude the entire Star Wars saga properly. Really I can completely understand where critics, reylos, and lovers of these movies are coming from. Criticism has taken on a life of it's own on social media because fans feel the creators were not as invested in Star Wars as the fans. I don't know if this is true, but Disney more than likely was interested in a cash grab.

*LOVE THIS! Just so very beautifully made and shows the marks of a truly sincere SW fan.*
I love SW through and through and as much criticism as the PT and ST have gotten, I was always a fan. I’ll admit, Ep. IX took me some time to process, but I’ve come to enjoy it and see how it threads all the way back to and through the Saga as a cohesive storytelling entity.
This trilogy of trilogy is truly art at is finest and we see in them a manifesto for protecting and embodying democratic ideals against fascism and militarism, appeals to our better selves, the fundamental interdependence and interconnectedness of all people and living beings, and what happens when we fail to live up to these ideals and values, through the experiences of the Skywalker family, not merely another bloodline based on genetics, but a shared identity based on these values.
Are any of these movies perfect? Nope, trust me, lot of people would have come out of the woodwork to bash on Ep. V to no end if the internet had existed (and anyone wanting to find flaws and fails will find them if we nitpick and strain enough), but instead they were stifled by the limitations of the time and the narrative of its being the Saga’s peak stuck (and justifiably so, though I do think Eps. III and VIII are right up there with it).
I love SW, warts and all, and over a decade of virulent PT hate didn’t change my mind or spoil my enjoyment, and look, all the haters suddenly disappeared and most fans love it now. Same with the ST. These haters ultimately lose, just as all Dark Side elements ultimately lose every time. They’ll always be there, picking on something else for clicks and attention, but, remember, they will always lose no matter what.
Fans of all SW, remember: “The Force will be you, always.”

The fact that The Force Awakens is an exact remake of A New Hope is a cinematic social faux pas! Not only is it painfully unoriginal as well as childish and downright disrespectful to the creative and also dismissive of so much lore but it clearly shows that JJ put no thought in how being the empire back as well as the status quo of A New Hope effects the entirety of the narrative!
Of course then again JJ Abrams whole understanding of story is limited to a marketing tool known as “the mystery box”! (According to himself that is)

I like, the idea of it.
But ideas isn't the only thing we're expecting. We want a heart-touching story, with plots carefully planned to compliment eachother, interesting lore which at least doesn't break the SW universe, cool battle scenes that we could watch again and again and still find new things, a deeper meaning even philosophy that could impact our lives, etc. In the end we got none of it.
To put it simply, since it's the official sequel, the main dish of Starwars, we expect it to be on par with George's 6 movies, but in the end we just got like some rushed TV show episodes put together as movies. Those interesting ideas never worked together to form a whole coherent story, and none of them were presented well enough. Even worse, when it comes to the bigger picture, they just went for the cheapest route, like just erasing the New Republic in 5 minutes, like killing luke, like "Somehow" Palpatine returns.

My opinions, prequal trilogy is the worst trilogy (not saying horrible, jest the weakest of the three). Anyone who says they don't like seven because it's just A New Hope over again shouldn't like the prequals either because, as Lucas himself has said, they "rhyme" with the originals including scenes that are suppose to be shot for shot. Phantom Menace is unnecessary, but the best of the prequals.

Luke arrived after to help, but Rose had no idea of that happening. Idk just bugs me. Finn honestly should have died in that film. I hate that the actress who plays Rose got death threats and basically pushed out of the franchise. She had such a little roll in Rise of Skywalker. Her and Finn didn't even get like a 1 on 1 scene together to my recollection (could be wrong). Besides that personal issue, I really do enjoy the sequel trilogy and hope that era of Star Wars gets explored more.

Another chance... at remaking it, yes!
But to be honest, the story feels too out of place for a Star Wars sequel... In my case I didn't have any expectation, I was truly expecting for something different... I wasn't angered at the things that were unexpected. Rather, that the directors seemed to believe that "fantasy" is about "doing whatever comes up in your imagination", without adding a reason for it. When good high fantasy, such as Tolkien's for LOTR, or George Lucas' vision for Star Wars has something of fundamental importance called "Internal Consistency". Star Wars, being a decades old and very established story with a deep lore, must have new stories that respect said lore! Hence, worldbuilding can't really reconsider things that were previously established. This, and the "break of the fourth wall" that ofte occurs in the sequels is what ruins it for me. It feels like both a fantasy story and a space adventure (and not a bad one at it!)... but as a Star Wars trilogy it just feels too out of place for me to consider it seriously (and by "seriously" I simply mean being able to immerse myself in the story... but the trilogy too often breaks things apart in such a way that I find myself "outside of the story" too often...).

Episode 7 provided an interesting introduction to all the characters and Episode 8, despite having many flaws, like Snoke's death and Rose saving Finn, was a pretty unique concept. Even episode 9, which I thought was pretty bad with lazy writing had amazing cinematography and special effects. A lot of complaints by Star Wars fans I think are kind of people overreacting and just trying really hard not to like anything Disney makes. They turn the smallest little things into such a big deal. And in the end, the sequel trilogy was never going to live up to the first two, that's just how franchises work. It's also really sad how nobody hates Star Wars more than its own fans.
