The Merida is a surprisingly good package. I like the 27.2 post. However they may need to offer some more nice paint options to make it more desirable in the market.
I'd go with the Scultura 8000 the 12 speed Ultegra - nice in red and $1000 cheaper in Oz than the Scott reviewed I think. And with the extra tyre clearance - winner. sticking with my lighter rim brake Focus for now though 😎
Great review - thank you. I think I’d settle for the Addict. I noted the gloss paint finish on the Merida chain stays and Dura Ace chainset do not appear very durable. A minor detail yes but it looks ordinary on a new-ish bike.
They are out of stock even in Taiwan, so I see it as a worldwide problem then xD I really like the asthetics of this bike tho, just cannot get one on hand :(
Scultura V Team (M) with Extralite C339C Wheelset, Schmolke TLO Seatpost , Gelu K3 Saddle, Tubolito S-Race Tubes and Look Keo Carbon Ti Pedals is 6,42Kg
I have the 2022 Scott RC15 with Shimano ultegra di2 and Princeton Carbon Works Peak 4550 wheels, it's an amazing bike!! I'll do a review on my channel soon.
I have looked these bikes, among others, with lower specs. And about the fit of these 2 bikes compared to each other: -Scott calculator puts u on a one size bigger then Merida, Giant Orbea, Canyon etc.. This way, size M Scott size S Merida, it has more stack+6mm, but longer stem +10mm, slacker seat tube angle 0.4°, overall a longer bike. If u select around the same top tube lenght bikes, size S in my case, the Scott actually has 15.5mm lower stack, and only 1mm less reach, with the same stem lenght and angle, on lower spec models-6°, and only 0.5°slacker fork steerer, same seattube angle, and unknown setback on seattube, there are 0, 5mm, 20mm versions. Merida has 15mm. -U can put more spacer under the stem, on the Scott, but in this case, u might be looking for an endurance bike.
Scott without any doubt whatsoever. Better in every way possible. No contest. Test ridden both (Merida was the 8000). The Scott just rides like a bike of this type and price should. Bought the RC15 as new Di2 rules over SRAM Force all day long…
so much hogwash. bike frames tube shapes aren’t aero. disc brakes incur an aero penalty (slower & heavier). seat posts exist in turbulent air, they have no aero properties. aero advantages can only be gained from wheels, leading edges, & rider position.
Scultura is my choice in this case. Lighter, more reactive. And you don’t see it on every corner. The Scott is more seen. But I would consider consider the Scott. Reasons are the price and that I owned a CR1. Great bike. And at the moment I own a Scott addict gravel. Also great bike.
Explain to me how this bike, will, just go faster than the previous rim brake model. I would love to hear that 😉 But don't come here to stay its XX % more aero at 40km/h, round tubes and wider tires will make you faster.... Please stop the marketing deceiving 😉
Disc brakes allow you brake deeper into corners allowing to carry more speed into and out of the corner for a faster average speed on down hills. In fact a good descender on a disc brake equipped bike will more then make up any time gains attributed to rim brake weight savings. Pro rider Julian Alaphilippe has shown this repeatedly in the Tour de France on multiple occasions.
@@coldforgedcowboy LOOOOOOOOOOL !!! If you came here saying "hey in wet days, raining days descending the tourmalet in a disc brake bike it's safer and MAYBE faster" i could agree on that, but saying "hey with disc brakes you can brake later LOOOOOL" come on, do you even cycle ?? Maybe you missed all the attacks on descents done on rim brake bikes and they were fast ;) I have done many >20km >30km descents on sunny days and rainy days and never felt that i needed a disc brake. If i want to use disc brakes i ride my MTB
@@FaiscaaaH I have had 8 road bikes with rim brakes so far. I have raced with them. I have driven with it over many alpine passes. From now on only disc brakes.
Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)
I despair of what road bikes have become. They’re heavy, expensive, and a nightmare to service and adjust. They’re just slightly slimmed down gravel bikes. Bring back race bikes!
its insulting how you people show disc braked road bikes over and over. they are for wet riding not dry riding. they cost more, more difficult to service, And Weigh More. excuse me but its absolutely true.
No wear to expensive carbon rims. Need almost no maintenance Way better braking in wet Room for wider tyres. And rider tyres are fast and more comfortable

Simon, I absolutely adore that mustard-coloured shirt of yours. I want to see it even more
@@SydneySlowRider Thanks very much - it's one of my favourites, so you'll definitely be seeing more of it on this channel! Simon
How tall are you guys and what were size of the frames?

Scultura for me, I also like way more the design

Owned an Addict RC for 20 months. Love it.
How fast does it go? Mph?

I've been trying to buy the Merida here in Aus, however everyone of the upper models are sold out till august next year for the 2022 model year
Not only a problem in Aus but in a Big part of the world...
They are out of stock even in Taiwan, so I see it as a worldwide problem then xD

Or both!? 😉

Do a bike fitting, Worth every penny and then you know what really fits you. 😉
Have fun. 👍

Best joke 😂
Oh I would go for the Merida Scultura maybe not the team issue bike so I can also put a dopper post like Matej Mahoric.😁
Perfect head to head - very similar bikes
I made a reservation, when will it be released?

TCR Pro 0 or SL 0 is leaps and bounds ahead at the price point of the Merida. Stiffness is unparalleled.
A stiffer bike doesn't make you faster unless you a riding a noodle
Just sounds like an advertisement
