    I like adding a faux delay with a Floyd. It’s almost like a weird pitched delay which I have yet to find in a pedal format. Choose a note you want to accent then you briskly press the whammy about a half-step (more or less) down and release it slowly to the next delayed sound (about 850ms as your video states). It has a nice decay to it as the note dies out. I also like gradually increasing the delay length and how fast I release the bar on the very last note. By the way - those are some NICE harmonics!

    Thank you for sharing these great info! I have 2 questions: 1) Feedback: how many repetitions do you consider as the magical number, maybe two-three? 2) Always on delay: would you recommend a setting that could be used as "always on" or it would ruins some riffs? My band is a power trio, so I'm experimenting how to sound bigger and cover all the empty spaces, however too much delay may ruin things up

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  2 роки тому +8

      So sorry for the late reply. I would say 3 to 5 repeats would be perfect for solos.
      For an always on delay, you want the volume to be quite a bit lower but still enough to hear it when you lean in to hear it, if that makes sense. Probably around 2 or 3 repeats on that. It should just be loud enough to create some space and to be heard when you're stopping in between passages just to fill the space a little bit.

    What about feedback and time signature ? 1/4,1/8 etc

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  4 роки тому +2

      So sorry for the late reply.
      I usually have about five or six repeats that way it sounds huge without interrupting everything.
      Regarding time signatures, that's really up to you.
      for the most part, I find that 850 to 1200 milliseconds works best for me

    • @bikersoncall
      @bikersoncall 4 роки тому

      850 ms (for example) is your 'time signature' , I was wondering about
      repeats, he just answered that , but also depth in the mix, eg; 30% 50%
      etc... I usually use about 30ms, 2 or 3 repeats, and 30 or
      40% mix level.
      I have tried 500 ms etc, seems to get muddy, but then
      it gets that big sound as well, so I think setting up both sparse
      and saturated delays, so you can instantly switch between them
      might be key.

The max delay time on a carbon copy is 600ms but I’ve found that to work perfectly. Adjusting down the MS time to match the tempo of the track.. but overall it works perfectly for adding depth and size to the tone

      Hi James, I have a stereo rig, so I always go for stereo delays. Inused the helix ping pong delay here. There's no reverb. Do a slight hi cut on the delay and it'll give it a reverb/delay feel. Any delay pedal that suits your taste should work. Just go for 850 (ish) ms and a slight hi cut and you're good

Just tried this on my headphone amp and it works nicely, doesn't interfere with the solo notes and bringing the mix up makes it actually do something! Hi, great vid, and sounds awesome. Question though, for someone like me who plays more bluesy rock and can't shred like you guys, would the delay setting be similar for a solo with less notes and more space or would It be a different thing altogether.
    I often find the delay gets in the way a bit so not sure if it's time or mix.

      @@TONEWARSgearshow Cool, thanks for getting back to me on this. I've been a "purist" sorta guy for years, but days have come where hauling big rigs on tour just sucks! LOL
      Sooo... I got myself a LIne 6 Spider IV. Not anywhere in the same league as a Kemper or Fractal, or Headrush, or Helix... LOL, but wanted to dip my toes in the "modelling" waters, without taking a bank loan. I'm a musician, I can't afford good gear, ha!
      It sounds pretty good for most applications, and I'm a big fan of their Delays. So, there's the question... WTF is "Offset"?

      To your question, I believe the Offset function is controlling the "width" of the drlay. The higher the number, the wider it is

      Thanks for commenting. All of the effects that you're hearing in this video are from the Helix. The only analog pedal in the chain is my overdrive. The overdrive I used was the Precision Drive by horizon devices.

    • @TONEWARSgearshow

      Hi Ed, I would suggest placing reverb right after delay. Subtle level with a long(ish) decay. Searchlights on the helix is nice!! "Hangar" on the Kemper is very good too

    Okay I have to admit looking at you with the purple guitar my thoughts were can this joker actually play or is this just some click bait junk?
    After hearing you play I thought "OKAY NUMB NUTS" why are you NOT stating your name and the name of your band? That was great stuff! I was getting into it so much I was forgetting all about the dd stuff. You obviously love George Lynch & Warren D Martini. You're probably laughing right about now and we both know why.
    Anyway, what's the name of your band and what's your name?

      Thank you. Yes it is. I would humbly suggest that the repeats to be spread out more though. Tighter delay times = smaller sound.
      850 ms is just a general suggestion. Not everyone can do tap tempo

    Which Kemper delay and settings? I’ve been struggling with this a bit myself - which is how I landed on this video. Just subscribed 🤟🏻
    I’ve been making patches on the Kemper where I turn reverb off when I switch to a lead sound with delay - I find the reverb almost washes it all out but still experimenting with lower reverb settings. So many damn parameters on all these effects - would love to see more detailing a specific lead setting for Kemper. I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love this.
